What will you do when the anime well dries up and there is nothing left?

What will you do once the seemingly bountiful well of anime dries up like a shriveled eggplant husk on a scorching summer day and there is nothing left you want to watch anymore?

This would never happen to me but not all anime watchers are in for the generations of harvest.

Would you find another hobby like clipping peoples' fingernails and telling them their fortunes based on the shape of their keratin shrapnel?

I love to cut other people's nails (they have to be girls though). Well, I can always go watch some old anime that I am currently interested in. Should last me decades

I doubt it would dry up- at least not in the foreseeable future. And even if it does "dry up" (seasonals would stop) I would just watch some already released anime- doubt if I can watch every anime ever made

there’s literally hundreds of anime out there that are good, if current age anime becomes shit at least I’ll have time to start cracking away at my PTW list

Even without seasonals there are already thousands of anime I don't think I would be able to watch all that in a lifetime anyway... but if it happens for some reasons I would probably read more books.

I don't like anime and it wouldn't be a problem for me if I had no more Japanese cartoons left to watch. Fortunately I spend more time reading manga than watching anime :D

The well exceeds the amount of time I have, and there are many other media to check out. Running out of media isn't a primary concern for me. Rather, there's too much that I'd like to check out and I'd like to pause reality a bit to catch up.

Too many anime from previous decades already exist for me to check out in case I get sick of new anime in the 2020s. That being said, I'd just go back to reading more manga and light novels than I currently do now.

Lol, i don't think that can happen to me, i already watch anime sooo slowly and my PTW is currently at 554 (and growing because more anime keeps coming out) so it will probably last me until i die.

Not a big issue. I've been meaning to rewatch/continue some of the animated shows. I also could use the time to play some video games, read manga or try something else.

I'm hyped for sunnyside game, a farming sim game + persona level of relationship because it's not a pixel graphic game. I mean this kind of game that I hope to spark a new anime trend. maybe it would just be me but if they recreate harvest moon a wonderful life anime but with marriage life, unlikely since we don't have much marriage life shown in anime other than (shoot I forgot the name and also bits of it in saiki family).

maybe a one piece spin off about marine's journey where they discover the effect of the worst generation had on islands that they visits, evidences of mugiwara was there. maybe focus on slice of life aspect as there are many average devil fruit after all to be shown. dragon ball super happened so for one piece it's only gonna get bigger if handled correctly.

on topic there are many game and even visual novel to quench that thirst.

So I will finally get a girlfriend, yes!!!

When do you talk about "nothing left want watch anime" is like the anime industry ends or I don't want to watch anime anyway?

If is the first option, I'll totally migrate for the games industry. If is the secound, I'll rewatch my favourite anime. I don't have problems for rewatch stuffs that I like

Its as likely to happen as that humanity will ditch the concept of games, music or movies, aka it will never happen.
Either way, assuming this theoretical thing "will happen", most animes these days repeat the same animes that were released 10 and 20 years ago, so with select few exceptios I won't miss to much. I'll just keep on doing what I do regardless of anime.

It doesn't really matter though, I have many source of entertainment after all:

- Video Games

- Pro-Wrestling Shows (except WWE)

- MMA Shows (Belathor, Cage Fury Fighting Championship, UFC and ONE)

- TV Series

- YouTube

Even if Anime dries up and there's nothing left, it won't bore me though
(For me, Anime is just a way to kill time)

impossible. given my really inconsistent viewing habits and my massive PTW, and the absolute insanity of 2022 on the horizon with at least 18 big sequels + Chainsaw Man, I can't imagine running out. I mean, I've only watched 50 or so One Piece episodes! never seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes, or any Gundam! I suppose there's a bit more of a risk for long-time fans, but I can guarantee you, you've missed hundreds of hours of quality content still. Will the industry crater eventually? maaaaybe. but the back catalogue is enormous. you just need to have other hobbies, too.

Highly unlikely considering the pace I am watching at. Maybe when I hit 40 and nothing good comes out for two straight decades lol. My PTW list is long and sure not everything in that list is going to be good but a decent amount will to keep me going for years to come. My interest will fade and resurge just like it does with all of my hobbies.

Honestly I have other hobbies I can get into if that did happen. I already wanted to get into reading more varied Western fantasy and have been reading sci fi classics. Plus my interest in history will never die so that will keep me entertained for awhile. Games still are fun in some genres even if the industry is lacking in others, sports can be fun though it's more fun to play them than watch for me these days. I still like biking etc. Lots of things to do and not a lot of time to do it.

Also weird example OP.

Reminds me of peak oil, there comes a point when there is nothing to watch because your backlog is finished and nothing can be made because every plot, trope, art style that ever can be imagined already exists.

Peak anime lol

Lmao what a post, not even mad.

One of the reasons I like anime is because it doesnt dry up. While some seasons might be weak there is enough older anime to choose from. And with 100s of different shows rewatch potential is strong too.

If it would happend to anyone it's rare cases like me and it dosen't exist that many of us.

I never thought about it, I've been watching anime half of my life and I still havn't experienced 1/10 of it.
I havn't seen most blockbuster anime either.
to answer your question, taste changes over time. instead of getting tired of anime I think I'll pick up genres I didn't bother with previously. it sounds way more realistic.

Compared to the number of (non-anime) films I have under my belt, which is in the actual thousands, my anime count is small - less than 200 series, maybe a couple dozen or so films.

It's like asking what will I do when I have watched so many of the best live action films, live action television series, and cartoons, maybe a majority of which are far and away the best I'll ever see for the rest of my life. That is still years worth of content intrinsically linked to different ages and times in my life that is a treasure trove I can revisit at will at any time in my life going forward over the course of decades, as long as I'm alive and cognizant.

I do leave open the possibility that other than the occasional seasonal or obscure series I somehow missed on the first go-around though, I may reach a point after a few hundred or a thousand or however many series that I stop actively watching new series for a while; maybe even several years or many years. I can't say reliably if that point will come and if so, it will come after reaching 300 new series, 500 new, 800 new, 1200 new or any other random and arbitrary number one could conjure up.

All I know is that if and when that point arrives, it will still be completely fine as even now, 9 times out of 10, I typically enjoy rewatching parts or the whole of series I've already seen than watching new ones anyway. Watching them in different contexts, like after revisiting an online discussion, someone else reacting to them, or just a time of year and season completely removed from when I first watched them. Something about familiarity and repetition breeds endearment. At least it does for a person like me.

Even assuming that they stopped completely making anime... There's like 30 000 anime that exist. I think I'll be fine for the rest of my life.

But getting bored on watching anime? Well, I have a long list of other things to do.
