As you read in the title, also does that affect your rating if you feel personally insulted?

If the narrative portrays such actions as being in the wrong (for example, the villains are the ones mocking them) then I see nothing wrong with it personally

If the narrative portrays it as justified then it depends how good the writing is, and if it brings up valid points, rather than just blindly discriminating against people

If I feel that the writers actually have those harmful views IRL, rather than just writing fiction about them, then I'm dropping it and rating it 1/10 on the spot

and "my people", do you mean my country people?

nah, japanese are not rude enough to really mock other nations.

this is the american way.

I never seen a anime accurately represent Christianity. I never really identified other white people as "my people" either. I often find the white steorotype characters funny though so I would say yeah.

Honestly if it's casual references or hints then I can probably keep watching it. If it's explicit or unmistakable (which I haven't come across) then I assume I'd have to stop watching it idk

I'm Greek, so the closest I've seen (so far at least) to an anime that would be at the very least tongue in cheek about my nation would be Olympia Kyklos, which I found kinda funny (though obviously not historically accurate -duh) but I ended up dropping it because I couldn't really stand the butchered gratuitous greek on the ED (I generally can't stand languages being butchered when said butchering is more than a few phrases long e.g. a religious text in English that Kirei was reading in one of the later eps. of Fate/Zero felt to me like nails on a chalkboard). But otherwise, there isn't much of anything that would insult my greekness afaik.
What I most certainly won't watch however, is stuff that would exalt enemies of my nation and my religion, like for example Shoukoku no Altair which seems to present positively the equivalent in that universe version of the Turks, who are the #1 enemies of my nation and had us conquered and oppressed us in the past and bully us even to this day (from screenshots I've seen, in said anime is even shown an expy of the Hagia Sophia, a church of ours that was converted into a mosque).

I haven't encountered an anime that outright mocked those things but I think I would have just given it a shit rating on mal and moved on with my life.
The worst things I've encountered are bad depictions of christianity in anime like the toaru series or hellsing but they didn't bother me. They're the same things you encounter in horror films or dumb thrillers like the Dan Brown adaptations and I enjoy stuff like that in spite of their stupidity and bad portayal of christianity.

I'm not patriotic in anyway so I don't care at all.I'll still don't care even if they mock my religion.Getting angry over a piece of fiction is nothing but a waste of time and I couldn't do anything about it.

Would be preferable to all the Nazi references.

Ok, seriously, I don't care. It's not like we're portrayed like some american characters whose whole personality is all about being a disrespectful douchebag. That trope can still be found in some modern anime (Kuroko no Basket Last Game for instance) And even if, I wouldn't get offended by that, I would probably laugh.

In terms of my "people" then nah, I don't give a shit, I mock my country a lot

And in terms of religion, Then it'd REALLY depend on if they're just randomly mocking or actually making valid points against it, If they're just disrespecting for the sake of it, I'll drop it and give it a 1/10 easily

These things are very likely not to happen tho, Japan is a pretty respectful country, Even for cultures and religions that aren't common there, So I'm just talking very hypothetically
I don't speak English that much, so please cut me some slack

I mean, I'm not devoutly religious . So I don't know if I would easily catch on to stereotypes involving Christians. As far as black people, I've seen some stereotypes. But nothing that's been deeply offensive enough for me not to watch it. I'm also aware of the fact that Japan probably doesn't have much exposure to black people.

If something fictional makes you fell insulted or insecure then you have got a lot of growing up to do. There's a novel called one hundred years of solitude. It has incest. Lots of it. And incest is wrong. Yet it is often dubbed as one of the greatest novels ever. There was a movie in my country which was supposedly trying to mock a particular caste but what it showed was the truth. Just because something tries to show the dark side of religion or people doesn't mean that it is trying to mock them. And if someone indeed makes a show or movie to mock a particular group of people, then thats certainly a shame. That said, religion can be pretty illogical at times. I mean, whats up with worshipping stones?

If it's just a funny parody - no. But if it genuinely tried to talk shit for no reason, of course.

I feel like anime uses christian symbols for their aesthetic rather often. Sometimes it really is more funny than provocative. For example, the setting is in europe and the protagonist stumbles across a nun immediately.

But I don't feel like anime does this that often, for example, dark humor is way more common in western entertainment. On the other hand, some japanese tend to be butthurt quickly when it comes to their country and history.

i’m atheist so kinda n/a but any anime that constantly mocked a particular religion or group of ppl doesn’t sound like the sort of shit that would entertain me anyway. but as far as my knowledge goes, i can’t think of an anime like that.. japanese ppl are generally very polite lmao i can’t see this happening unless it was an important part of the storyline fsr

as far as I saw, anime portrayed really well the greek gods, sure there was some jabs here and there but I didn't care.
They also portrayed Vlad Tepes as a brutal killer and rapist and the fvcker worked for the protestant infidels (him being an orthodox christian) but it was kinda true to his character

There aren't many that "mock" these things, at least nothing that I can remember. But plenty that are skeptical or display things negatively, or play them as jokes. I see this as a good thing. I want to see things from many perspectives, so getting different takes on these things is enjoyable and sometimes helpful.

If there ever was a show that was intentionally and genuinely racist toward Canadians (my country) then that sounds like the best comedy of the year and I would very much enjoy watching it.

(I'm talking just about the mocking religion/people thing.)

"They escaped the weight of darkness,
to forge a path into the marrow of the spirit.
They chose to drown in a deeper vacancy,
an emptiness that quells the null,
a pool for the forgotten..."

Of course, why would i be offended by something like this. Maybe it's also because i don't have a religion or don't count anyone as "my people". But even then, yes.

As a german I would feel so bad because we are so often the bad or the ones you must defeat. At least in anime we are not always that horrible.

Mocking is very subjective in the way you have used it. If it is humour, critique and satire, I don't mind. However (though I have not yet seen such an anime) if the mockery is purely out of some bigot's view, ie; their premise don't hold water in any serious discussion (even if premise is for humour/satire), then I disapprove of such anime.

I most likely would stop watching it. I recently stopped watching a Let's Play series (which had a guest from another Let's Play channel which I used to watch) after the guest said something disrespectful about my religion and the people who follow it in one of the episodes. Don't even care if he was joking or not, and it wasn't funny and he sounded like a complete asshole. And if an anime was like that, I'd drop it too and give it a 1/10. Fortunately, I haven't come across an anime that did that, of the ones I've watched so far.

That depends. If they decide to make fun of Dutch people or Catholics I’ll probably have a good laugh, because I don’t identify as strongly with those parts of my identity.

On the other hand, if an anime is wildly homophobic or transphobic I’ll probably drop the show right away and warn close friends if I know they were planning to watch it.

By the way if you mock someone for things they didn't do the joke is entirely on you for being ignorant jerk...

I'm not a religious person, so it doesn't matter.

Also, every time our country, Finland is mentioned in anime, it's been done in a very positive way, so I don't have a problem with that either.

It annoys me but I understand people's culture or the effect a culture has on them can change their perspective of others. I don't agree but respect it, and it broadens my understand of my own people. My religion is Protestant Christian, and I've come to accept in many Japanese media "Demons good; Christians bad!" Comes from the religion often being used as a weapon for European Imperialism, which is something many Asian countries had to contend with.

The mockery of religion wouldn't affect me at all personally, since I'm an agnostic atheist. Not sure what "your people" means, but I don't associate myself with any tribal ideologues. I also have yet to see a racist anime, and I don't imagine they'll purposely make one that's outright racist out of malicious intent.
