THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
We got Kukuru's character introduction with her passion and love for marine life. She has a rather normal personality so far, and kinda relatable as a character.

Fuuka is also introduced and I believe she and Kukuru will get along well this season. Hopefully they can develop both characters to their fullest.

The setting looks great with a serene-like vibe and colored by PA Work's style. The underwater scenes captured a magical feeling when combined with the music, almost if it's like a whole different world by Fuuka's imagination. An interesting start if you ask me.

It's been awhile, but P.A. Works is back with a 2-cour show since 2017's Sakura Quest, and welcome Nagi no Asukara director Toshiya Shinohara along with IroDuku's production staff team on this one. And it looks just as beautiful and gorgeous as ever.
https://aquatope-anime.com/bd/ --> 6 BDs with 4 episodes each.

The Aquatope moments are a clear throwback to Nagi no Asukara with the whole sea-like aquarium setting, and Kukuru Misakino looking somewhat similar to Chisaki. Not sure about the others, but even though the character designer is different, it reminds me so much of classic memories of 2013. Yoshiaki Dewa on music is yet another classic. Anyone notice that the fish head looks very similar to the fish head that was on Manaka's ankle?

The once idol Fuuka Miyazawa (I love her turquoise-coloured eyes) whom left Tokyo to find a new life in Okinawa because of her unpopularity, and a mysterious fortune teller whom like Fuuka, is also out of luck. But friendship and bonds are strong to help one another in need, so there's that. Karin Kudaka leading her to an aquarium to spare the time away from the former memories of the idol life. And 18-year-old Kukuru Misakino, director of the Gama Gama aquarium, meets her in an odd first impression, but get along OK soon thereafter. It's gonna take awhile to settle both MC girls into this setting.

AND PLEASE NO YURI SLANDER HERE.

P.A. Works's originals have really never failed me (except for that funk that was Glasslip), so hopefully this one will have enough to draw in the audience for the continuous 6 months!

it begins with peacefel scenery, It was a view of a house, a beach, and some kind of shrine for a funeral? It is about about 2 girls. Life in Tokyo and Okinawa, the beach is complete opposite, I wish I could live on the near coast, lol. Miyazawa moving wasn't kouhai's fault so Miyazawa just wanted kouhai to work harder for work. Miyazawa was an idol, even that was a beautiful memory. It was just that to appear in the association alone was the only thing Miyazawa could do for now. Miyazawa went to Okinawa there Miyazawa went through many trips, and it was a beautiful place. Miyazawa met the fortune teller, even the fortune teller knew that Miyazawa was from Tokyo, lol. It's just that fortune tellers are good at gossiping, lol. It would be very interesting if you come to Okinawa and sleep on the beach with a rock/coral around you like a ritual, lol.

Are there police in Okinawa? I mean Okinawa is a small island, maybe... It would be hard to meet someone there, so I'm sure if you don't have a driving license I'm sure you won't be caught by the police, lol. Go to school by scooter, seems interesting. Miyazawa lost, Miyazawa met a girl. Even the girl said that Miyazawa was a beautiful girl who was traveling alone. That girl gave him a lift and a drink of water, along with flyers. Okinawa is the most beautiful beach tourism, there are so many interesting things in Okinawa. Miyazawa went to the aquarium, where Miyazawa just wanted to spend her time and talk to the fish.

I don't know why I like this visual aquarium. The fish look real and the fish are full of color. That Was Ecsenius yaeyamaensis. Miyazawa meets Misaki. Misakino asked Miyazawa if Miyazawa could see the illusion. It was their meeting, The episode ends with Misakino taking Miyazawa on a tour. There's still a follow-up scene, lol. They went to see the penguins, maybe... Maybe I missheard, is Misakino the director of this aquarium? Hhmm... And yeah, Miyasaki asked Misakino to hire her.

It's really good, it's even been shown in the PV, it just sounds weird... Of the many scenes in eps 1 you just said animation, soundtrack, and characters. What happened to eps 1 hhmm...

For the character design, it's pretty good but this is still episode 1 so it would be weird to talk about characters even though we haven't gotten any character development yet :"(

Well so far it looked really nice, especially the fishes where done really nice.
The characters seems interesting tho i would like to know a little more about them so for we mainly saw the past of Fuuka but not much else.
Kukuru seems lively tho.

PA Works animation was fine, but CG was shit as always. Well, Considering the scale of CG involved it wasn't that bad.

But, I wasn't expecting supernatural. And, That redfish guy was something to wonder at. Otherwise, It was a respectable cool SOL.

Here we go again with another P.A.Works original anime. First of all the visuals were absolutely stunning. Man I can stare at em all day and not get bored. Other than that I like the setting of the show, the atmosphere was quite refreshing and both of the protagonists seem like interesting characters too. Hopefully this will turn out to be a beautiful anime, specially since this'll be two cour.

PA Works is back with another new original anime...
I have high hopes for this one after this episode.
their last work Kami-sama wasn't exactly what I had in my mind... hope this one doesn't do that.
from the director of Nagi no Asu kara and the music also comes from the same person who did for Nagi no Asu kara... i am really hyped. hope this one breaks me like some of their other original masterpieces.

Whether it was Nagi no Asukura or Iroduku, I loved P.A. originals with a supernatural touch. except for Sirius, Fairy Gone or other attempts at action That said, I liked their cute girls in a working environment shows such as Hanasaku Iroha and Sakura Quest even more (saving up Shirobako for dry days) Either way, this should be hella good. The best of both worlds might come together here.

And as expected, the visuals and atmosphere are just stunning. Fitting setting for the summer season as well (gave me many good vibes)

Not all that much has happened yet, mostly set up and a bit character introduction, which is preferable imo. There's no need to rush it. 24 episodes are a nice episode count to work with. Hope that gives every character a significant episode/arc. In particular looking forward to focus on Udon-chan.

PS: Opening sounds also very nice. Can't wait for the visuals.

PPS: Yuri? Don't entertain this bs xD

This is a truly P.A. Works' anime.

Welcome to Gama Gama Aquarium. The anime is set in the city of Nanjo, in southeastern Okinawa. Which actually doesn't have an aquarium at all in the real life.
The MC's casts are very strong with Itou Miku and Rikyako. Rikyako voiced the idol-related character again. 🤣 Just go to Numazu, Fuuka!🤣🤣🤣
Rikyako! Rikyako! Rikyako! Rikyako! Rikyako!

This anime could be one of the best anime from this season, at least for me.

Okinawa is much smaller than the four main islands but isn't that small. It is the fifth-largest island in Japan after all with an area of about 1,200km2.

As expected from P.A. Works. The graphic is soothing and the background really well drawn. Kukuru and Fuuka is also very cute. Next waifu for the season. But the story still in the grey. Looking from the count of episode, there will be some drama to expect. Looking forward for the next episode.

Tbh, Animation and cg is god tier and I kind of like this anime but what's this anime is about? Where is slice of life ? Is this an aquarium isekai. (Ugh! I've been watching a lot of isekai recently that's why I see isekai everywhere)
Anyone care to explain what's the main story of it ?

The color visuals in this anime are amazing!
The setting is perfect, everyone's gotta love Okinawa, right? It all went through as I expected.

But, the thing that got me confused is, what happened at the scene in near the end? Like, seriously MAL should've updated the genre, it should have Supernatural tag on it, but overall it's an amazingly good anime. Well done, PA Works.

Pleasantly surprised that it's getting 2 cours! Excellent art and animation (arguably besides the CG lmao but they did what they can). Didn't expect the supernatural aspect, but hey it's always welcome and I'm curious how they will deepen the story using the supernatural themes. Very much looking forward to how this will turn out.

Pacing is good enough, but I did not like the way they presented former idol MC's reason for leaving. As a result, the crying scene felt a bit weak to me, but totes can relate at least with her "struggling".

Nice that we get a 24 course and that scene wher she got isekai in the aquarium idk but that looks really good and the Cgi too. I hope they show us more why she left but so far the anime is really nice.

Tbh I'm blown away. The soundtrack is downright gorgeous, the animation for the aquarium was great (especially the dream-like "Kijimunaa" scene), and the characters were all well set-up. The comparison to ecsenius yaeyamaenis especially struck a chord with me, honestly made me a bit misty-eyed. Looking forward to see the rest.

A bit to the slow side but not bad at all. 24 episodes, this is still giving me a lot of hope but, in all seriousness, I'm looking forward to what direction this show will be taking.

Fuuka-san has had it rough in the idol industry, I imagine it must have been conflicted feelings for her considering that her junior took her post for good. Flying off to Okinawa on a whim because of that is very questionable, however xD. But good thing there are nice people out there.

A little bit of Kukuru-san, too. Dat intense prayer at the start, I wonder what that was all about. A director at her young age is very impressive though albeit the state of the aquarium. Oh, and good luck with maths lmao.

P.A. Works flexing their animation particularly in that aquarium scene, that was honestly amazing, and the great detail to the Okinawan scenery was very nice to have! They're particularly good when it comes to originals with an occupation taking central stage so here's to hoping this'll join that rank!

Really hope that it doesn't turn out to be a generic drama-driven "friendship" show.

Especially hope that the nameless fishing enthusiast classmate dude doesn't turn out to be the 幼馴染 love interest or what not

I would probably drop the show at the speed of light if any love interest happens between any of the MC and the fishing dude

So it seems like Fuuka's drama is entirely self-inflicted. Dunno how I'm supposed to feel for her with that in mind.
With 24 episodes it would appear we'll be getting another one of P.A. Works' wild rides the likes of Nagi no Asukara and Sakura Quest, in particular the former because of the supernatural aspect.

I've seen like the 95% of the P.A Works animes so this is another one going to the list. I dont know why people is thinking this one will have yuri or why people will hate it if there's any romance, i dont see anything wrong with that lol. They already indicated that kai has some kind of interest in kukuru, and if it goes nagi no asukara way then its not strange at all.

I'm definetely watching this. I absolutely P.A Works' anime, though I have a few on my Plan to Watch list.

This has everything to be another masterpiece. Great season premiere, great animation and colors.
Plot seemed a bit weird at the beginning, but there's things yet to come.

It'd be cool if it gets some shoujo ai vibes, but I think that isn't the case.

So the assumedly false memory that this was going to be set in Okinawa turned out to be not so false, after all! I'm excited!

Stunning visuals, clever direction, immersive sound, expressive characters and impressive ending sequence. The CGI looks really good and as far as I could tell, all the fishies were animated separately. That whaleshark was nothing to sneeze at.

The characters were also introduced well, I like the both of them. And already we have the themes of work, effort and payoff present, which reminds me of Hanasaku Iroha!

A wonderful start to a 24-episode series. And the pacing is nice and slow, you know they're going to take their time with this story and make it more memorable.

Great episode 1, which is no surprise. Animation looks perfect and it'll be interesting to see how the stories of each girls fold out from here on out. The supernatural aspect of the story felt a little overkill, but hopefully it can be incorporated well into the overall story.

I feel like there have been so many PA Works originals that start amazing, but then ends with a lackluster ending, so here's hoping this one is great until the end.

That being said though, I remember the last time PA Works came out with a banger first ep and that turned out to be a shitshow midway through cough Iroduku cough

But hey, at least no Mari Okada this time round so can at least expect less unnecessary drama amirite huehuehuehue

Actually quite surprised the parents didn't bother calling the cops lol. Considering how she's technically in an unknown location and hasn't responded to her cellphone, those must be some pretty lax parents

Promising first episode. It is a bit early to tell, but if all episodes of Shiroi Suna no Aquatope are as great (or maybe even better) as this first episode, then I'd say it deserves minimally a score of an 8.1 (an 8.4 if I'm being biased) on MAL in my opinion.

Some nice animation and relaxing music to start the ep with. The entertainment sector unfortunately is a field thats difficult to get into if you you don't work at it. At least Fuuka has a supportive family to support her in this difficult time though. Avoiding embarrassment by flying to Okinawa though was a pretty new reason for visiting it though. The fortune teller though was quite a curious character. Wow first time i seen a squad raising journal be handed in in lieu of a maths report though. Fuuka though was real lucky to encounter Karin though. But the insight into her past sure was sad. Putting in the effort but not attaining the results that you desired is always something thats hard to accept. The scene where she was drawn underwater though sure was quite the magical moment. Kukuru though sure threw one hell of a curveball at us though announcing her position like that. Overall a solid opening ep that combined some interesting character intro's with beautiful animation, relaxing OST and quite the magic moment via Fuuka's encounter. If the next ep combines the magic with character expansion as they reflect on their life and learn from it then this will be the relaxation anime of this season.
