It must be hard for Izanami to go through each year's anniversary since her mother passsed away.

Looks like this episode focused more on Izanami's family drama including trying to get her father to be there for her. What's interesting about this episode is a look into Izanami's personal life and her family. It seems her mother was a kind person when she was alive. Imo, this turned out to be the most serious episode in this series.

Thanks for Izanami eps.

The drama has started and this is only the fifth episode. I thought if Ryouta expressed his feelings once again would Izanami accept it?

Lots of meme material from Hina as usual. I have a feeling youta is gonna get rejected by izanami again because the next episode is about a festival.

Man the show is starting to pick up properly. Maeda wan't lying about this being the saddest anime ever, considering I've already (lightly) started the water works 5 episodes in. Plus with Hina starting to have her heart stir, this is going to be interesting.

Beautiful episode.

Izanami's Dad was amusing when he was trying out all the cheese dishes, made me laugh. Cheese is good though, I agree.

Izanami talking to her "Mom" on the phone was very touching, her reaction was very for lack of better word pure. You could see it in the way she reacted to everything she was told. Part of me wonders if Hina did actually connect her to her Mom in the Underworld but that might be too far fetched.

Izanami and her Dad watching those message together was heart wrenching, I teared up as they watched the last message and their Mom cast the magic spell on them. That one hit right in the heart. T.T
I'm glad that Izanami was able to support her Dad and eventually they were both able to move on.

Aww Kyouko's dad is so precious... fun to see him enjoying those foods after being disillusioned for so long

Now with the Izanami's family issue being resolved, cant wait to see how Kyouko will fit into the overall narrative

Nice ep focusing on Izanami and less on comedy. I was a little concerned for a second when her Mom said they would have to destroy the tape and forget about her - like it was connected to this weird God plot somehow. But nah, it's just telling them to move forward. Still tho destroying the tape is way overboard. How could someone ever destroy something so precious. We should cherish the memories.

DAYUM, this episode, literally is the last episode of Angel Beats or any sad episode of Violet Evergarden all over again. Not close, but we're getting there.

Inazami's episode, and Youta's desire to help her is only accelerated because of Hina, otherwise this boy has no guts whatsoever. Even rowing Izanami's father out of the house just for cheese, that seems like a hard task.

The strained Izanami Family relationship of an estranged father, a passed-away mother and a lifeless daughter (calling her a kuudere would be far-fetched). Hina replicating the voice of Izanami's mother wasn't such a surprise, but the closing messages of their mother during her hospitalized years before her death was a good send-off to move the family forward.

Quote of the episode: "Beeee Happyyyy!" - Ms. Inazami

SORRY YOUTA, you got friendzoned by your lack of self-confidence! 11 days to go.

I feel like Izanami was really talking to her mom through Odin and whatever project Hades was doing could be related to what's happening in that world, next episode could be focusing on the antagonist. Well just my theory.

But I truly love this episode and this series and this episode solidified why I have Izanami as my third best girl after Tsukasa and Elaina

This is by far the best episode of the anime. It took a different turn than the other episodes and it by far my favorite episode. It gave some incredible backstory for Kyoko Izanami as we got to see her change from being in low spirits to becoming more happy and full of life. I'm gonna be honest, some tears were shed and I made whole lake on my desk. The best part of the episode was at the end where they played that song and showed what life was like when her mother was alive. It was similar to angel beats where they showed what life would be like with Hinata and Yui in the real world in episode 10, and for that reason I cried. And its only episode 5! By far the best episode and my favorite episode. I loved it!

I've been thinking that this is a food anime since the previous episodes but it looks like the culinary tour in this one confirms it.
On the other side, this was a beautiful episode and the Izanami family is one step forward in overcoming their grief (though I honestly think that went by a bit too fast). Looking forward to the next episodes :)

The waterworks really came down this episode. This is just a personal, but anything with themes of family and moving on hits really hard with me. I was calling out on this video messages bro. Now that I think about it, that whole video messages with the birthday congratulation reminds me of the Violet Evergarden arc with the mother and daughter. The waterworks might start coming down again man just thinking about that.

Anyways . . . it was another amazing episode, Maeda Jun lives up to his reputation for making these consistent tearjerkers.

That last little bit at the end(⁄ ⁄•⁄ω⁄•⁄ ⁄)⁄ So Hina likes Yota? Poor Yota didn't take that opportunity to ask our Inazami-san, but I respect him for not exploiting Odin's power.

Hmm looks like Kyouko's relationship with her dad isn't as warm as one would expect. Given her nature it will be hard for Kyouko to confront her dad about it to begin with. Still her dad seems pretty dedicated to his work to the point that im sure he barely remembers his daughter if he wasn't reminded. Still it was amusing seeing what he's like when outside of that mode. The BBQ video though was nice and showed well how happy Kyouko was back then when her family was still complete. The conversation between Hina and Kyouko in the guise of the latters mother sure was fun and warm. Still it sure provided the final push that was needed for both to confront the issue that was wrecking their relationship which was learning to let go. Those video messages though sure were a lot of fun while also radiating all of the hopes that the mom had for her family. Overall an excellent ep that equal bits amusing and heartwarming at the same time. The combination of the positive messages from the mother in the videos and the effects that it had on Kyouko and her dad sure proved to be a potent combination especially when combined with the ending visuals and song.

*Violet Evergarden episode 10 flashbacks intensify* Lovely episode. This came at a very convenient time since yesterday was the 8 year anniversary of my dad dying of prostate cancer. My mom reminds me a lot of Kyoko’s dad these days. I’ll probably rewatch this with her soon.

Maeda’s already getting the waterworks going 5 eps in, I know the end will break us.

Finally a dramatic episode, and it was a good one imo.

Kyouko and her father watched Kyouko's mother's last video. Her mother told them to forget about her and move on. They agrred to Kyouko's mother's death last wish.

This episode would've been much better if not for the last scene. Why would you start the sentence but not see the end of it? It's better if you don't say anything at all.

Okay, close. Teary-eyed but the "real waterworks" are still pending, one would imagine.

Beautiful episode, this.

Ishikawa Yui-san totally nailed it and the mother's message was really wonderful. Spell-bound now, as they should be. Plus the ED in the background, stellar stuff right there from the genius minds!

Youta, meanwhile, flops once again xD. It would've been a little cheat to sway her heart there, I agree though. But what's this, Hina felt a tingle? 11 days remaining, expecting the Drama to come all guns blazing anytime soon now.

Such an heartwarming episode. I didn’t feel like it was supposed to be a sad one, it was simply more like a message to the viewers; “move on and be happy”

The magic spell was the highlight of the episode. Also, great insert song

Okay, not gonna lie.

As much as I have major problems with this show overall so far, this episode was probably the best one so far. Kyouko Izanami has and still is my favorite character from the show, and for her to gain more value and context in terms of her character traits and her development was great. This episode somewhat reminded me of episode 10 of Violet Evergarden with Anna and her mother.
Izanami and her father were deeply shook emotionally by her mother's death by some terminal illness (unspecified, but not important for actual identification), to where they were tied down psychologically....Izanami losing her liveliness as a young kid at the time (hence her current personality up to this point), and her father becoming someone akin to a hikikomori. Imo it was a nice episode for empathic presentation even though the comedy still sucked ass. Already Izanami has by far the most blossoming out of all the characters so far and she's not even labelled as a main character. Hopefully she'll still stick to her usual personality while subtly showing the results of her growth every now and then. This is the first time we see her genuine smile here in this series, btw.

At the end, on another note, we get obvious hints that Hina has something akin to romantic feelings for Yuta.

That was odd, Odin had a mother actually.

This was a family reunion drama done in a very lighthearted manner, and rightly so, because the writing lacks novelty. The character of Izanami narrating her woes and expressing her personal (family) problems to Narukami felt out of character; one would have thought she was better at hiding this stuff. Only explanation is that she has feelings/extremely deep trust for Naru, and just couldn't bring herself to bring gloom by associating herself with this boy (hence the ep1 rejection). Again, by sharing her problems, she kinda contradicted that theory!

Dadnami is a cheesy person. Ok I'm sorry. With yet another person's problems mitigated by the help of Odin - chan, I think they'll move onto the computer algorithm plot in the next episode. Interesting to see Hina conflicted after the Narukami propostponement.

"All truth is meaningless. In the end, 'meaning' comes from the mind of each individual human. Even when there is a single truth, it can mean different things to different individuals. The truth has no meaning in itself!" - Erika Furudo

"Hades needs the help of Kyouko's Mom to take care of the inventory."

... I see. So that's how the Katou household ended up with the role of the warehouse guardian after all the mess Shiki left.

Not to mention teasing that Kyouko's Mom is going to be reincarnated...
Can't believe that little fan-theory regarding Umi-her grandmother's connection is actually getting teased here.
I mean: Goodbye Seven Seas was obvious as fck, but this... only those who actually dissect the story and the characters could actually got a hint towards that.
