Everytime I see or hear someone talk about JoJo, I only ever see people bring up some meme from it, to the point where I don't even know if people really like it. The ONLY actual praise I've heard for it is the music, but like, if an anime doesn't have good music it's not a real anime, just a fact of life dawg. Like... is it ACTUALLY good or am I just supposed to laugh at how weird it is oooorrrrrr?

Every person that i know who likes JoJo really does believe that its good.
But on the other hand i tried watching it and I find it dull, stupid, unfunny, garbage plot in my opinion, terrible characters and so on.
I personally wouldn’t recommend it and I advise you to keep away from it because its just a waste of time in my opinion.

The first two parts were kinda meh imo, the good parts start from part 3 but after you finish part 5 and you await the next adaptation like the rest of us, you will see the beauty of the first 2 parts. It didn't come to me at first so I think some might see it that way too

It's not a show you watch ironically. It's a divisive show, so you aren't missing anything if you aren't enjoying it as much as others. It's very, VERY flawed, the show relies on you being able to let the bad parts slide because the good parts are really enjoyable, and as a whole the show is a breath of fresh air. Not everyone can do that though, so if you don't like it, it's comforting to know it gets better, however no one would blame you if you just dropped it, or maybe put it on hold for later. Regardless of what your opinion on the show is, your opinion isn't gonna get better if you're forcing yourself to watch it, and trying to behave the same way others do.

Go start watching this show because you want to keep up with JoJoke aand when your friends talks about it, you can join too.

Eventually you realize that you keep watching for the plot.

Because that's my experience.

Don't watch JoJo expecting a deep, philosophical plot, since the show's intention is exactly the opposite to that. The show is just pure fun with intelligent writing and strategy-based battles full of bizarreness (hence the title), charismatic and likeable characters and an enjoyable journey with the cast.
Even though, the show still manages to subtly touch themes like fighting destiny (especially noticeable in part 5 onwards) and, in later parts, write amazingly realistic characters with incredible development.
As you may have noticed, I think it's worth the try XD

Part 2, 4 and 5 of the anime are definitely worth it, but the start and part 3 can be a bit of a drag.

I think JoJo's fanbase is horrible, they just make the same oversaturated internal jokes and make it seem to someone outside that JoJo is just an anime with weird things.

I knew a guy who always talked about JoJo and sent me some fight or strange scenes hoping that I would be interested, and I thought JoJo would be just another Shonen where there is only a mediocre story for some boring fights to happen... but I was wrong. (at least i believe i was wrong)

The best decision I had was to start reading the manga without any expectations. The first parts are nothing special, but they present some characters and ideas that will become very important in the future. Throughout the series, you will see how JoJo's creator improves his art and writing, with the first part being a simple story of good against evil and the last part being an incredible mystery story with unique, complex and well-developed characters. Each part has a different genre (Victorian Gothic Drama, Slice of Life/Mystery, Western, Mystery Thriller, etc.), but what is always present in each part is the action and the concept of fate. (which I believe has been explored in an incredible way)

JoJo's fights are much more about strategy than strength, since the power system allows for very creative abilities that can be weak or strong depending on how it is used.

But yes, there are some very weird and uncomfortable scenes as the author is a huge fan of horror films.

If you happen to be interested, I recommend that you avoid fanbase and draw your own conclusions, if you happen to not really enjoy the story of parts 1 to 6, you can try to start reading the manga from part 7 and then 8, since that is where a new, more adult story begins in a new universe that is far superior in all aspects and does not need much knowledge about the old universe. (although it makes some concepts easier to understand.)

You can do both. I genuinely, unironically love the show. I think it's one of the most stylish, unique and fun action series we currently have. But at the same time, I still love indulging in the memes, even the memes that criticize the show, because I still agree with a lot of those criticisms.

Personal Favorite Shounen
Pros:
The most diverse shounen with each part having a different cast, different tone, different story and even sometimes a different genre.

The characters are AWESOME and its comedy is by far the best comedy I have ever seen in a shounen anime, especially part 3

straight forward no bullshit fillers

Has aged GREATLY considering the manga was published in the late 1980's

Memes are great if you can understand them

The only anime I know off where the power system as a whole changes

Part 4 is the best part

Amazing art style and colorization

Cons:
Part 1 hasn't aged all that greatly, Part 2 is amazing though

Some things here weren't explained that greatly

Can be slow and dull at times

There are things here that aren't explained all that greatly

It is overall a really good show and you should watch it atleast one so you understand everything. The music is good but some openings are just not that good and endings are ok.

I'll have to admit, I'm a relatively big fan of 80s/90s GAR shonen, I just saw Jojo, and I find it mostly trash. I don't know if the manga is... like that, or if it's just the adaptation, but there are tons of 80s/90s GAR anime wich are either funnier, more interesting, or prettier, or all of this.

Yes it is considered a genuinely good anime. It's just that memes have become such an internal part of the JoJo community everything else kinda gets lost at times.

I'd say it's a very enjoyable anime to watch. Usually its plot is not complex, but it covers a lot of themes and emotions. Sometimes it's funny, sometimes it's serious, sometimes it's sad or even scary. So it's very diverse and the adaptation is very good. It's not perfect, but a lot of people who watch it and talk about it really like it a lot.

Honestly, I'm confused about why you say "unironically"? But anyway:

I don't know about you and your personal tastes/preferences but for me, JoJo is an amazing series. I love the art, I love the story, the characters are diverse and unique in their own way- especially in designs and personality, and the powers? So creative and bizarre in the best of ways.

Araki created a kind of story I've never seen before- a story that follows descendant after descendant from a character. That's the first I've ever seen that idea, and I'm totally hooked on it. And knowing a lot of JoJo was inspired by Araki's love and fascination with other cultures? Especially music? Amazing.

The art is one of its best points though because you can clearly see with each part Araki's art progression. People can complain that Araki's art has "same-face syndrome" but is that stopping all the many fans who are still reading all the new chapters that get released? Absolutely not. Plus, you gotta love all those poses.

The fanbase can be crazy, I can admit that as I've been reading JoJo for a long time so I've seen a fair number of things, but you can watch/read JoJo WITHOUT involving yourself with the fanbase. No one says that you HAVE to be involved with them if you enjoy the series- it's not a rule. You can enjoy it all you want just by yourself, it's completely okay.

I know the meme culture feels overwhelming, but my answer to the question is that its unironically good. It's one of my favorite series for the story and characters

I used to hate it because it looked like some silly show like Pop Team Epic where you laugh at the characters, but that's not what JoJo is about, to answer your question. It's a serious plot-driven story

Yes, Jojo is unironically good. It’s a serious story, across all parts, bundled up in nonsensical wacky stylish gift wrapping. People get into it and are recommended it for the memes, but I know I stayed for the characters, their development, and the narrative’s incredible - and later on, quite nuanced- handling of its themes; I also know I am not alone on that. SBR is in my favorites list and is top-rated for a reason.

Not everything in Jojo is serious or is meant to be analyzed, but if you are passing judgement on the show and taking everything the series has to say at face value then you’re the one not putting any effort into watching/reading.

So, yes... It's good

When people say that JoJo is flawed, they're lying.
What might be flaw in other anime, is part of JoJo's charm.

Someone gets it. JoJos can be enjoyed unironically but try not to take it too seriously and it will be much more enjoyable. The early parts have some growing pains but you'll appreciate them in retrospect. It wacky and weird which rubs some people the wrong way but thats bound to happen with any anime. Its definitely worth giving a shot though.

Yeah it’s amazing. It’s a very unique shonen because of its storytelling which is very fun. Amazing art/character design, consistently good opening/ending themes. I’m a fan of Yugo Kanno’s music in the show but season 1 has great music as well.

A lot of people like to hate it because of the fanbase, but it is a good show and definitely not like any other tbh. its a whole bizarre experience, and even though the first two were a lot different from the rest of the of parts, you begin to appreciate them after you finish the series and wait for others to be adapted. There are a lot of characters to be attached to, and the battle strategies and villians are interesting

I mean it has 8 parts with different plots, characters, and setting. It really just depends. But tbh it’s just a fun anime where they have tons of ridiculous yet big brain situations. It’s supposed to be a BIZARRE adventure.
