I mean, both seasons were pretty good, but I still found season 1 a lot more entertaining than the sequel despite it's much lower rating.

It kinda feels like my taste is getting shittier, or maybe did some of you guys also feel that way?

No your taste is just awful. Your taste is about as good as when my taste buds touch sweet potato, which is trash.

I also thought S1 was better than S2, the latter was kinda messy, lost some focus and identity. Everything after the Reigen segment was also quite dull.

And well, according to general reception, yes, we are in the minority, so I guess it can't be helped to think that it is rare to have that perception lol. But anyway, one should never let the consensus or overall scores dictate what you should and should not like or what you should like the most, one should always just be true to oneself.

Despite liking both seasons, the reason I prefer season 1 is simply because it succeeded in the comedy/lighthearted department more than season 2 succeeded in the drama department. While in the first season I was thoroughly entertained by its hilariousness, I can't say I was thoroughly engaged in season's 2 more serious bits. So yeah, I feel ya.

Thanks for the opinion.

By that logic tho, your taste truly is impeccable as SAO shines with a 7* and an 8* on your list.

Yeah that's my point, I thought S1 was much more balanced in a way, with comedy and an epic action that genuinely felt more entertaining compared to S2. I just didn't feel those drama parts in S2 to be honest, it was still a decent anime overall but it really felt like it could've have been done so much better in my opinion.

Don't know, it just doesn't happen often that I'm in a minority regarding ratings, that's why it really made me question my taste haha.

This is wierd because Imo Season 2 decimates Season 1 in every way possible.

No it's not weird because I feel that same. Season 2 was good and everything, but the drama was a lil-bit off, the fights weren't as that good compared to season 1 (Like basically, lack of hype, i.e. cuz of the 100% good side, which is a big meh tbh, the 100% anger was much more impact-full ). Also, what made me dislike Season 2 the most was the "Talking-no-jutsu" of Mob, the way that he tries to Persuade everyone to be good and say some stuff like : "I can feel / relate to you". I didn't like that tbh.
And ironically enough, Mob didn't have a good animated fight in season 2 (Yes, the final fight lacked hype af, with Mob trying to convince that dude for long time). The only good fight was when mob's comrades were vs that teleport-psyche guy.

Overall, I gave both the same score, each season lacked something but if there's a decimal rating system here, I'd give season 1 an extra +0.5 tbh.

It's not weird, the score difference isn't that big. Besides, second seasons usually do have higher scores because most people who didn't like the first season wouldn't bother watching the second one.

I liked both seasons equally just for different reasons, I don't think you should be concerned about the matter.

mostly u forgot how reigen comfort enemy (s1) so there's no need to use mob power to fight them and somehow reigen want teach mob to not always use violent/his power to solve some problem.

3. "but the drama was a lil-bit off"
u know why manga readers of mob psycho really hyped about s2 annoucement back then? because of reigen arc / separate ways arc and whole of mogami arc (but still little bit of dissapointment about some cut from the source manga arc tbh). its just peak of story development - mob psycho 100 from one sensei.

I also preferred season one, although both were great. I thought the last few episodes of season 2 became a very straightforward shonen beat-the-bad-guys kind of show. Up to that point there was more variation in what was going on.

I would even go out and make a wild guess that a persons preference of season one or season two is tied to how much they like battle shonen in general.

for me the peak of season 2 was episode 5. the fight against mogami and the aftermath was probably what i loved the most about the series and what i will probably cherish after finishing it all (manga and a probably shorter 3rd season). but yeah. i can understand why youd enjoy it more. the last 5 episodes feel a bit rushed. i feel like they dont dig deep enough in practically nobodys characters. they are still top tier episodes and i liked them all, cause you can see how mob has actually improved and has gone from being a timid, shy high school outsider to having that gregarious rengen-senpai touch of trying to talk it out of every dangerous situation and giving his opponent the chance to know a different way. but yeah, i basically feel like they didnt really give mobs transformation that much importance and tried to focus a bit too much on the plot. i still gave it a 10 cause for me, episode 5 was the peak of the entire series and i think that judging the rest of the season after that would be a bit unfair. still glad that you guys share the same passion for the show as i do.

No, it doesn't. Everybody has different tastes and that bring people to have different opinion, there’s nothing else to say.

Honestly, I feel that season 1 was just better written for the most part. While the Reagan arc and the first episode of S2, as well as a few episodes and moments prior to the more dramatic arcs of the season were lovely, episode 3 felt like a mediocre plot that would have been taken care of in an inferior version of season 1, and I had a hard time buying some of the drama and writing in the two major arcs of the show. The show really beats you over the head with its messages compared to before (not that S1 was subtle or anything) and I ended up losing interest in Mob, who was once a loveable poster child for the idea of self-improvement before he basically became a Jesus character by the end to face a boring villain.

Honestly can't understand it. Season 1 was great but season 2 builds up on the elements that made season 1 good by actually fleshing out characters a fuck ton (Mob, Reigen, hell even some of the side characters). Not to mention the animation, art and OST game stepped up ridiculously hard, I still stand by ep 5 of the second season being one of Bones' best ever works.

I mean, its MAL so of course there's gonna be the usual "new thing bad" opinions but season 2 is just season 1 but better in every way as far as I could tell. The best part is the final arcs covered in season 3 take up the series to a whole new level in my book, can't wait at all for this series to get a complete adaptation.

Actually,I agree with you OP. I gave both seasons a 9 score, but I enjoyed the first season more so than the second. The only episode during season 2 that I REALLY enjoyed was strangely, the first episode. I found that episode to be really endearing, but I really didn’t care that much for what happened after that.

But S1 wa s not exactly lighthearted either in its second half, it was just the first few episodes that were focused on comedy.

S2 is a natural continuation of that

Season 1 doesnt have moments such as that bait involving Mob's parents or when the villain talks to his son at the end or even when he is facing mob. That seriousness is not like the one present in season one. And I think it was more successful at being lighter than being darker.

It wasn't bad but first one was better. that said probably had to do with their being less comedic elements.
Also I wanted the whole Tsubomi thing to be expanded. This season just left all of that un answered.

But remember when Ritsu was being kidnapped, how crazy Mob got? felt like that was a pretty serious moment too but you are right that S2 definitely had more darker episodes.

I think it was a good balance but to each their own

I felt that the first season was better. Sure Reigen's arc was great, but everything else was kind of.. flat. Shou Suzuki was introduced in an intriguing manner in the first season. But his dad turned out to be incredibly generic and not much was done with both of those characters.
