THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
This whole investigation is getting more and more tense.

The fact that Itsuki is allowed to do whatever he wanted make this case more complicated. Dunno how I feel about Sekuro's new role. I hope he can get used to it.

Could also be a red herring. I don’t fully trust her yet either, but I also feel like having her be Magase Ai might be a bit too predictable given what we already know about her.

Solid episode, glad to see this back!

Seizaki and Sekuro’s interactions were very professional and fun to keep up with, I’m looking to more of the two. I get the feeling that they don’t fully trust each other just yet however. I’m really hoping Sekuro doesn’t turn out to be Magase in disguise at the end of this, also. I feel like that’d be a bit too .. anticlimactic, in all honesty.

Anyway, lots of interesting focus and tidbits on the politics and laws. It’s seriously creepy how despite encouraging, or rather forcing I suppose, suicide, the mayor has yet to break a single law though. To make matters even worse, they’re totally off the radar too so it’s hard to say what they’re cooking up at the moment in the backstage.

I’m really liking where this is going! Can’t wait for more, of course!

Slower paced episode, but it was still very good, looking forward to the next ep, something big ought to happen.

Also what's with the ED change? The last one was soooo good and the new one just feels out of place and lackluster.

Lol I am so paranoid when I see women in this anime because any of them can be Ai.

Oh, Fumio got replaced. I liked him even though he only appeared for an episode. He was optimistic and kind and cheerful and also kind of hot. I hope I can like the girl as well.

I am having a hard time trusting the girl because of Magase Ai.

It's hard to trust anyone in this genre of fiction. Plus, no one really feels like a red herring either.

I wonder why they had released three episodes at once. One episode is already overwhelming enough!

Even though she didn't really appear, I still felt Magase Ai controlling everything. She really creeps me out!

In this episode I found it surprising that itsuki legalized suicide (64 committed suicide at moment ) and 200 more in whole Shinji And special investigation cannot arrest him

Sekuro is very much mysterious she is always staring at seizaki it maybe that she doesn't trust him or she could be ai which I don't want her to be (I would hate if she turned out to be ai)

Now I am wondering about what itsuki may be doing next cause only 3.2% people agree about the suicide law. although he laid those very vague election system how is he going to win those and nabuki is also against him now

Liked the whole epi

Did they just take a dig at the dead guy, Fumio?

I'm wondering how much of a deterrent suicide being illegal is, to those wanting to kill themselves. Are they afraid of the police arresting their corpses after they're dead? Religion probably helps stop suicide more than law since it makes people believe that their souls won't cross over or they'd go to hell. An interesting concept.

A fair bit of progress this episode. My expectation was a more action packed episode or a sense of urgency, but yeah... what to do? The cause of death is suicide after all. It will be interesting to see whether or not the righteous investigator will continue to work according to the rule book.

The possiblity of mass suicide is creating great tension. I would not be surprised if half of investigators were to commit suicide out of nowhere.

It's back! Seizaki was pretty fast to assemble that team, and assign their work, it felt pretty efficient. Sekuro also seems like an interesting character. I was afraid that she was going to be Magase Ai's new form, but it seems unlikely. Itsuki also planned his movements well, and right now they can't touch him. I wonder how he is planning on winning that election considering that the public doesn't seem to be on his side, and that the people he is going against are experienced players. Well, he does have Magase Ai on his side, so who knows.

I will list several interesting details and symbolism. In the meantime, can anyone make out what is the female voice whispering right in the end of the opening?

5:40 there is a talk on how passing assisted-suicide laws is easier since many other countries have already done so. The focus suddenly switches to a litter bin which has a lot of cans lying around, not in the litter bin itself. It is an obvious allusion to how it is easier for an individual to do bad things (everyone knows how littering and not delivering your garbage to the proper destination is frowned upon and regulated in the society, yet when people see a full litter bin and a lot of trash lying around they will feel it easier to do the same, namingly to avoid going through with proper protocols despite the opposite being a morally wrong action - diffusion of responsibility. However, there is more subtle implication, that might explain this precise choice of an allegory - the whole idea of assisted suicide is just trash. At least authors make their stance clear.

This is episode 4 and we (the characters) are still playing the laws and politics game. They represent order, they are trying to corner an antagonist by avoiding extreme actions or unlawful conduct, which could damage the society even further. Soon they will realize they are dealing with insanity which has no interest in their artificial constraints. The old-goon politician himself is underestimating Itsuki greatly, calling him "young" - he represents a stupid, complacent politician who is stuck in his own reality and refuses to accept whatever might contradict it. Hardliners which are widely present in Japan's political (pseudo) elite today.

The final scene shows some medical data on Magase Ai. Without examining it thoroughly, I will guess she was surgically altered and can not have children anymore. If so, this will be a dramatically large motivation of her own character.

Big spoilers ahead that are not confirmed but will happen

----------------------------------
If you look at the babylon promotion picture that features seizakis squad with magases face torn into it you can already predict what is gonna happen.

Fumio died by hanging as shown in the picture.

Police office will shot himself as shown as well.

And the lady will be torn apart (possibly by dogs not sure but she will be shredded)

you can see for yourself big hints in this video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AITjPGeNRkY

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Also from pv it is known how magase kills people already, she is able to turn into ghost and enter your body. the question is if it metaphorical and thats how victims feels, or it really happens.

It just occurred to me that Itsuki might not be alive anymore. Instead, it is Magase Ai playing a sick game with everyone, orchestrating events and making it look like it's still Itsuki doing stuff, to force the good-guys into playing "fairly" and thus stalling them.

I believe this is why he was given a glance from Sekuro as well. It might be his way to protect himself from the guilt, to keep on going, which is what I would bet on. It also could be used as a part of long and hard mind games against someone/Sekuro, but that would get us all into a realm of profound paranoia.

It's complicated, but generally, yes. Drugging people in general breaks all sorts of laws, depending on the jurisdiction. If it results in death, you're not getting away. You're responsible for that. Some states even hold you responsible for getting people drunk. This goes far beyond that.

Hypnotizing is a bit more weird, but to hypnotize means to put people in a state where they respond to suggestions more easily. And well, someone has to make those suggestions. You have to tell the people you've hypnotized to do what you want them to do. You have to command them to kill themselves, and if that results in death, you're directly responsible.

Of course, in real world, there's no equivalent to this that I know of. Hypnosis opens people up to suggestions, but as far as I know, it's never resulted in death, and people generally can't be driven to do things they don't want to do even under hypnosis. It only opens you up to suggestions, it doesn't rewrite your moral code.

Its pretty clear at this point that its hypnosis/possesion of some kind. There was mentioned pill named nyux but no one would take anything digestible from magase especially fumio. The biggest clue that magase posseses people is in episode 3 only this kind of method would allow to 60 people to gather up and jump at the same time.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Another clue about how she kills is in the Pv released week ago where magase changes into ghost and flyes into the dude pog

another BIG SPOILER and you wont believe what actually happened!!! (not confirmed)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
2 weeks earlier you could see discussion why is anime so focused on ventilation shaft. in episode 2 interrogation of magase, and with the new pv it became finally clear why it is so.

Its important to understand that interrogation rooms are always made to be opened from outside so the suspect couldnt get out if he was able to free himself.

in the new pv we were able to see magase ai to transform into flying ghost but we werent sure if its real or metaforical.

Well its mostlikely confirmed now that magase really is able to transform into ghost and fly into peoples bodyes with evidence below.

seizaki is bit retarded that he doesnt check cameras but thats because everything would be clear and author doesnt want that so.

With understanding that interrogation rooms can be only open from outside if you check episode 2 again on 19:57 it is pretty clear that the doors were closed.

There are only 2 posiblities now someone let her out from outside which we can discard, and the second possiblity, and im pretty sure you already know.

The only possible way how magase couldve gotten from there is through shaft, and you can get through shafts only if youre able to float as formless body.

This fact can confirm that she is able to transform, and kill through possesion/manipulation not mere words.
