Global streaming content platform Netflix unveiled an anime adaptation of Yumi Tamura's adventure mystery manga 7 Seeds on Tuesday. The announcement was made at the company's Anime Lineup Presentation event in Tokyo. The anime series will make its worldwide debut exclusively on Netflix in April 2019.

Synopsis
In the immediate future, a giant meteorite has collided with earth. All living organisms, including mankind, have been wiped off the face of the planet. The government, who had foreseen this outcome, took measures to counter the worst-case scenario. In particular was Project "7SEEDS," in which five sets of seven young men and women were carefully selected and placed into teams (Spring, Summer A, Summer B, Autumn and Winter). Each participant was then put under cryogenic sleep in hopes of preserving the continued existence of mankind.

When those men and women awoke, they found themselves suddenly thrust into a cruel world. While bereft and grieved over forever losing their loved ones, they sought to find ways to survive. (Source: MU)

After nearly a 16-year serialization, the series ended in the magazine in May 2017. Shogakukan published the 35th and final volume last August and bundled a drama CD with its limited edition. Tamura also ran the 7 Seeds Gaiden spin-off manga in the same magazine between August and October 2017. The single compiled volume was published on January 10 earlier this year.

7 Seeds won the 52nd Shogakukan Manga Awards in the shoujo manga division in 2007 and ranked 10th in the female readers' category in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings. The manga was also nominated for the 49th Seiun Awards in the Comic section this past April.

Yikes. Staff looks really weak. It's a shame since the manga seems really great.

btw, since I know that people will ask, Netflix don't fund/produce anime, they buy license and for cases where they held exclusive anime like Devilman Crybaby, AICO and some others, they just buy exclusive distribution rights license for a extended period from the committee of the anime, which they need to renew years later if they want to remain with it.

Where is my complete adaptation of Basara? :'(

Anyway it's good thing if Tamura Yumi gets a bit more known in the west. Her art is nothing special but she can write.

First Dorohedoro and now 7seeds, I never imagined they would animate them.

I hope that even if the adaptation sucks some publisher license the manga.

By the way I see they kept some of the voice actors from the drama cd.

Always wanted to read 7seeds, still an anime by Gonzo is a bit disappointing but if they put it on Netflix at least it will have a good budget and production values probably. Will watch

When I heard of the "important announcement" a few weeks ago I thought "Oh it could be an anime adaptation of 7SEEDS ! Haha no way."
Seeing this masterpiece adapted is like a dream coming true, though the staff and the visual don't make me very confident...

Damn, an adaptation of this is really neat. Was gonna read with sometime next Spring. I doubt it's gonna be a complete adaptation, and I doubt it's gonna be good because Gonzo fails at making anything good in the last decade. But any exposure is better than none.

This could be a hit or miss. I won't make speculations because of the crew but if it's a complete adaptation then it'll draw in more of an audience.

A really great manga and some really good name in the cast like Jun Fukuyama and Aoi Yuuki, let's see what gonzo can do. The main staff looks weak, for sure, but you never know. Could be a real keeper.

The manga was good, so I’m a bit curious about how this will turn out. This needs to be at least a 2 cour series of 24-26 episodes each to really work.

I’m not liking the character designs (for animation) in general, but the background art in the poster looks quite good.

Honestly, I don’t trust adaptations of really long mangas that have already finished. They usually end up skipping and rushing through all the content, resulting in them being more mediocre than great. Piano no Mori (a 26 volumes manga) comes to mind as a recent example. Great manga, sub-par adaptation.

Anyhow, hope for the best, but keep expectations low.
