Late to the party but I just saw it and was left satisfied. Great fight animation scenes and a serviceable plot. Looking forward to Alicization... I stopped reading partway through the first novel so it will be great to pick it up again via the anime. |

Visual and fighting scenes were top notch, no doubt about it. But plotholes affected my enjoyment. STILL THINK THAT SAO SERIES COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH MUCH BETTER WITHOUT UNECESSARY MELODRAMA |

Abyhape said: at first, I thought Kuhaku/Blank from No Game No Life are the one who hold the number 1 in player rank. actually, I expect that as a cameo. I dissapointed. Haha, same here, for a second there I thought how funny that would be :D Now to the movie: So many plot holes I don't even care enough to actually list them, but then again most of SAO is made of plot holes anyway. And yet, I still like them since they are quite fun when you turn off your brain and just enjoy them for what they're worth. I can't really say the same here. I liked the previous seasons even with their many flaws, but those flaws were sort of multiplied here, which didn't help my enjoyment :/ Sure the art (them Asuna boobs tho) and the OST (Kajiura Yuki is still a genius) and the action were all top-notch, but I felt like the story went downhill pretty quickly, especially near the last 30 minutes with countless unnecessary parts and the stupidity of some characters were unbearable at times :/ It still had some great emotional moments (and I especially liked that Yuuki appeared during Asuna's final attack), and the memory-element was pretty good, but the flaws, plot holes and the deus ex machina were too glaring for me to give it anything better than a 6/10 (previous seasons were both 8, even with all their own flaws). Nevertheless, I'm looking forward to the next season, which will hopefully be a bit more "realistic" than this. |

I don't know anything about SAO or how it eventually turned into something lackluster later on but I have to say the movie was really good. The art's up to high-budget anime standards, the concepts interesting and relevant at our time, the music was fun to listen at and those flashy fight scenes were super gorgeous. There's not much to complain about the movie because I really enjoyed it anyway lol At times it felt like a movie about a couple going through the struggles of one of them having Alzheimer's kek. ASSuna was a naughty addition as well but I ain't complaining. |

This i think is a movie that u literally turn off my brain and purely take in the animation and hardwork thats put into his movie. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a9pRsolofaI - The Canipa Effect video on it just show u a great perspective on why element work so well I think this is what people wanted from dragon ball franchise like new movies and super, an awesome action packed experience. Purely on a production level, this gives me hope for A1 pictures for the future especially the SAO sequel as they funding of the series is much higher and hopefully they get alot of the same talent because damn. Yui is still the worst character ever and is a huge deus ex machina however she was set up for that amazing action seqence near the end is can be slightly forgiven. I don't even give to shits about the characters however i was hyped as hell when i saw those blades. They is alot of interesting concepts however like SAO fashion not handled the best way, characters are still hollow however asuna is actually not terrible she's decent, if u seen sao progressive then the asuna in this film is alot like that. OST is amazing basically a review said it best if u hate SAO completely this movie not gonna change ur mind, if u hate SAO but like moments of the frist arc then u might get a kick outta this. |

Hi.. Just want to ask a question regarding the movie.. Sword Art Online: Ordinal Scale.. When they fought the Level 100 Boss.. And their characters/stats were restored by Yuki.. How come Kirito did not use the Excalibur which he got from the Quest.. the quest with Tonki (the weird flying elephant look alike)..? He used it to help the Sleeping Knights (Asuna's Group) in season 2... but how come he did not use it in Ordinal Scale? :D Thanks.. :D |

I do not understand why there are people who watch the movie without having enjoyed the series in the first place. For my part it was acceptable, although it could be better ,I consider it better than the second part of the second season which I did not like. |

Wow, this just really takes me back to the original series, which I actually quite enjoyed in spite of all the flaws / plot holes (contrary to "popular belief"). I enjoyed this movie very much. The fight scenes were pretty good, the romance was spot on, the music was quite nice, art/animation was also done very well imo, and the characters were the same as ever. Overall, I think I'll give this one a 8/10. The ending tho. So there's going to be a continuation, hey? And this time, it involves Kikuoka? Uh oh, wasn't he the insider who was helping Kirito? Hopefully he doesn't turn heel. Oh, and on the version I watched, the subs were trash. It didn't even capture the words for a few scenes, leaving us viewers to try and grasp what the characters were trying to say. |

The story felt natural, the music was really nice, there's Yuna's songs and some of the original OST from SAO. The characters are really memorable and oh man. That animation is lit af! Especially when they (finally) fought against Floor 100 Boss! Moreover, I got some shivering goosebumps when I saw Kirito's party + Sinon got their original SAO + (GGO for Sinon) profile! The mothers' Rosario and the starburst stream are ultimately the combos that defeated the last boss. The greatest thing though is the fact that Kirito got the most OP sword in probably the entire SAO +ALO + GGO + Ordinal Scale ever! Effortlessly killing SAO bosses with just 1 long range swing! Goddamn badass... This movie was amazing! With how big SAO is, they managed to take advantage and expand a story of a dead player and making them interesting at the same time. Well done, it makes me raise my hopes up for SAO's 3rd season. What doesn't make sense to me is the fact why they would make this movie R+ if they only put in some HOT bath scene where you can see Asuna's boobs and its nipple. If they go the extra distance to make this more like an R+ movie with more nudity or violence, then it makes sense to identify this movie with an R+ rating. A PG-13 rating still allows parts of Asuna's bath scene to be shown anyway. Well, whatever a very good movie is still a very good movie! |

Of course the animation and sound was 11/10... however, as is the problem with most movies vs series is that there is not enough time to completely flesh everything out and avoid plot holes. I also did not particularly like that it was basically a re-hash of the SAO plot line. There were some issues that I personally had with some of the characters' actions, particularly Asuna, but that is more down to personal preference than anything else, but it did cut into the enjoyment a bit, and some of the drama build was a bit cringy and forced, which dropped it a few points in my opinion. Overall though, the animation and sound was off the charts, and saved it from being just another mediocre movie with the common issues. - 8/10 |

I'd like to say that this movie left me at a loss for words, but frankly it was the complete opposite. Absolute garbage that crossed the border into absurdity. "Plot holes" don't even cover it. There were legitimately more holes than movie. Why do players physically recoil when tanking hits from virtual bosses? How can the blades of their swords interact with each other when they're not actual physical objects? They're just little handles for Christ's sake. WHY THE HELL WASN'T EIJI ARRESTED AT ANY POINT FOR MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS OF AGGRAVATED ASSAULT? How is Eiji able to bounce off walls like a bouncy ball to the point where he's basically teleporting? (and don't give me that HURR DURR BUT MUH NECK ENHANCEMENT DONGLE nonsense) They literally stressed """realistic physics""" as the backdrop for the action in this movie. What was with the absolute lack of normal scrutiny and coverage that would have exposed the plan of Generic Evil Villan #3 in a matter of hours? How the hell does any of this make any economic sense? Seriously they pump in a degree of economic jargon without ever explaining how this service actually generates profit. There's no way this sort of system is economically feasible for anybody involved, be it the company that owns it or the companies that give massive discounts and free stuff to people for things that have nothing to do with drawing in customers to their stores to generate more revenue. What do the vending machine companies get from giving out free drinks? That's not going to incentivize people to buy more drinks than they already would from vending machines. And why oh why do they keep throwing the concept of code and hardware compatibility out the window to mish-mash data from separate, non-identical systems like SAO/ALO/GGO/OS? These people praising this movie for its "high quality animation"? Braindead, every one of you. The 3DCG on plenty of the bosses was legitimately cringe-worthy for a normal tv show, let alone a high-budget movie. The fight with the 100th Floor Boss that apparently wow'd so many people? Half the time it was borderline incomprehensible. The transitions were jarring and often lacked proper flow. I thought I had accidentally hit 2x speed or something. When Asuna hopped in, I was legitimately so confused as to why Siluca was suddenly falling from like 100m up that I had to re-watch those few seconds half a dozen times. Everything else is either par-for-the-course or slightly above par for a high-budget anime movie released in 2017. The soundtrack? Sure there were good parts. It featured kalafina so I'd be surprised it there weren't. But a bunch of it sounds like a straight up rip-off of Fate/Zero tracks (and after finding this I'm sure of it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRCbJSpj9y8). Everything else I can say has probably been said before. Kirito going from pathetic out-of-shape nerd to super saiyan athlete in a day or two, the ridiculous villain plan, the ability to read memories but not just make a simple copy of them, the complete lack of reasonable involvement from the authorities, the melodrama, the fact that nobody just takes off their Augma when they see people around them having seizures, etc. I decided to finally watch this tonight so I could start watching S3, but at this point I'm not even sure if I want to. I'm struggling to think of a single anime film that has irritated and insulted me this much. 2/10, saved only from a 1/10 because of the visuals and soundtrack. If the rating scale went to 0/10, I'd give it a 1 for sure. |

Honestly, I loved it. It's hard to score this when there's so many issues with the story but I have to say this movie was better than both first two seasons by far especially with the technology shown here. Incredible visuals. Stunning soundtrack. The story was captivating for me, at least so I will give it that. So many moments where I was like "Huh?" but the good points outweigh the bad. I even liked the romance scenes between Asuna and Kirito which is weird because I was never a fan of them in the first place but here? I actually ship it. I have to admit, the sideplot with the scientist trying to "resurrect" his dead daughter is a bit forced but the finishing result was done decently. I did feel emotional when she did her last song and left the world. 8/10 I know. Bizarre, considering I'm more of an elitist than a casual fan but I really enjoyed it and I don't think it deserves anything lower. I may lower the rating in a few weeks when my hype has died down but I think it was better than a 7/10. Onto season 3... |

Wow. Just wow. I went into this not having much expectations and ended up absolutely LOVING this movie. The battle animation quality, especially the last boss, was pure eye porn. I had literal chills all over. Plot was a little off at times but apart from that, and not enough Sinon, this movie rocks. |

I'm still waiting for a better explanation of why eiji was able to fking jump like a superhuman on his fight against kirito, just knowing something was attached to his neck doesn't mean he can literally become a superhuman in AR... As for the movie itself it was pretty okay, it went well but Kirito just powered up out of nowhere and some scenes made me cringe a bit(ghost kayaba, ghost yuuna before her father). Overall 6/10. Watching this after maquia might have had a little impact on my perception of this movie but I don't think I would have rated it higher than 7 even if I haven't seen maquia. |

Shit...I liked that better than the other seasons. 9/10 for me; probably doesn't deserve that, there were a lot of plot holes, but the amount of enjoyment I felt overall compared to the rest deserved a bump up in the rating from me. |

Awesome animation, stunning visuals, amazing osts. Plot was kinda like SAO s1 with some modifications. Also for the first hour of the movie Kirito and Asuna was a little bit off with each other like they just started dating. You'd think after 4 years they've become used to each other. 7 |

Lmao they're closing down an entire section of the city for people to roleplay with their Augma's ^^ Really awesome fights, the art was stunning. I actually thought the movie would be about people losing their perspective on VR / AR and actual reality. Really good movie though, didn't think I would enjoy it as much ^^ 8/10 Thai777 said: I'm still waiting for a better explanation of why eiji was able to fking jump like a superhuman on his fight against kirito, just knowing something was attached to his neck doesn't mean he can literally become a superhuman in AR... The animation and quality overall was stunning, that's for sure. With every new game, problems just seem to come up, each time. As usual, Kirito handled new game's problems. Was pretty sad to see Asuna lose her memories like that, she got them back of course. Pretty good movie, considering it's Sword Art Online. |

The rating system on MAL gets more stupid with every batch of animes that's released. I've seen more than 20 R+ series and movies for nudity which don't have nudity in them. And I don't count mannequin nudity, that's just plain stupid. So, please, MAL, make the movie PG-13, like everywhere else. Otherwise, very enjoyable movie and, in my opinion, way better than season 2. |

Damn, Eiji is really hot. 😍 I really liked this movie godlike animation but the writing is weak. It seems that they wanted to do something great with Eiji as villain but it went downhill when he was cast aside by Yuuna's dad as main villain. That was disappointing. For me, the best part was the final fight where many characters from SAO,ALO,GGO fight together with Kirito. Finally, SAO: Ordinal Scale was just a fanservice for fans from the first two seasons (like me). I like that but there's nothing more here. The movie is okay, not bad nor good, just meh. 5/10 for the movie. |

i love that Working! is pretty much in the universe when the gang was eating at Wagneria. what i dont like is villains having very stupid reasons to do what the things they do...then again thats most movies. also dont like the huge sound volume difference between spoken dialogue and sound effects like most isekai and game trap series. definitely fanservicy with the original costumes showing up in the final boss fight |

Finally gave this a go and damn that was better than I expected, was nice to see the old gang back, sure brings back memories. Yuna's songs and ost were really nice and overall good fighting animation, and the few fanservice bits here and there ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Now onto Alicization! |

Great movie. Combining SAO, ALO and GGO in one movie, and it was good. A great experience, I feel bad for Yuna's father feeling like that, as well as for Eiji. The fight with 100th floor boss was amazing, I love it. A solid movie and a better one compared to the first two seasons games SAO, ALO and GGO. The story was a mixture of the first two seasons so it was good, and the characters Yuna and Eiji were normal but a great addition to the story of Ordinal Scale although it is still weak. Still the same SAO but it got more impact and still enjoyable. |

Haven't watched Alicization yet but this is my favorite SAO adaptation so far. As a Wow player for 10 years I hoped I would be an immediate fan of this series , but S1 and 2 left it on a bad note for me. So I hope Alicization will do what S1 and 2 failed at to me. GGO was enjoyable without any major flaws that made me dislike S1 and 2. But this movie was a good starting point, Beautiful art and animation, Music was godly thanks to Lisa and Yuki Kaijura, story was actually alright, and of course the characters are the same ones we saw since s1. Looking forward to Alicization. |
