| Same could be said about Eureka Seven (The critically acclaimed part) and that only has a score of 8.1 Causing an impact =/= everyone enjoying the series. Something like SAO was influential in populating fantasy RPG style shows, but that only has a score of 7.7 |

There are MAL members that won't watch a show if it has a score of 7 so the show is basically in a safe zone. Only circle its really unsafe in is among those who assume anything old is bad |

| MAL scores are not to be trusted. Kimi no Na wa is currently sitting at #2 with a score of 9.22 and let me tell you it sure as hell doesn't deserve it (contrary to what my list says, I watched it twice on flights to and from Japan. I just don't want it on my list). Almost every single show in the top 50 deserves to be higher than it. And plenty of other shows in the top 50 don't even belong there. At this point I've learned to just live with it. If a bunch of newbies and people with objectively garbage taste want to slaver on about how the big 3 shounen are masterpieces and how every single Ghibli movie is an unsurpassed work of art because they've seen a total of 5 anime, then whatever. It doesn't affect me unless I let it. |

| It's among my favs and while I do think that its score is (comparatively) low here, that's nothing surprising. The vast majority of people around here do not rate according to degree of industry impact, how influential it is, etc, they just rate according to personal enjoyment, how the show impacted their own lives, not the industry as a whole. And NGE being such a unique, far from traditional anime or any type of TV show, it's quite divisive, and it's not going to convince everyone, so it's something to be expected that its score is not going to be very high as the one may think of if one only takes into account its cultural impact. |

Pretty much this, I doubt many users take the influence and reputation of an anime into consideration when rating them. There are plenty of classic and influential anime that don't have very high ratings (8.3 seems pretty good to me anyways) - Akira, Mobile Suit Gundam, Ghost in the Shell, Fist of the North Star, Dragon Ball, Uchuu Senkan Yamato, Astro Boy, and some others. Sure, some of these titles aren't as popular as Evangelion in the west, but they're all considered influential yet their scores will never reach the levels of Cowboy Bebop because the majority of users rate based on enjoyment and not solely according to the impact they had on the industry. |

| Anything above 8 is pretty high for anime, imo. You shouldn't really take the scores into account though, since the scores are user rated and more subjective than objective. In your case, you think NGE should have a higher score, but there are others who think it should have a lower score. |

| It has a realistic score, considering the shitty end, and that the main point of the story is to shock the audience. But as someone who has seen both shows, and I actually saw EVA before bebop, I would say Bebop deserves that much bigger score. |

| I consider NGE the best thing this medium has ever created, but who cares about MAL ratings. NGE is very controversial in almost every way, so its score is even high (by MAL standarts) imo. Only the anime beloved by most people like FMAB or Steins Gate have exaggerated scores, or the unique case of Gintama, clearly benefited by this site's system and its number of episodes. |

| I lost my faith in MAL scores when Kimi no Na Wa got above FMA Brotherhood for a while. Evangelion is about a 7 to 8 for me so a 8.31 is a pretty decent score. |

| I gave it a 7. 8.3 isn't a low score. Just because something is well known or historically important doesn't mean it deserves to be 8.5+. Mobile Suit Gundam was revolutionary but at 7.9/10 some may still see it as being overrated. |
