It's just running joke on the internet. When someone claims to have girlfriend, we assume it's right hand, cause reasons.

don't dump ur girl over anime omg LOOOL. my best friend thinks anime is weird as hell too, and looks down on ppl who watch a lot of anime. but in the end she genuinely likes &respects me so she won't bother changing my tastes.
so just keep quiet about it, and maintain a 'you do you, i do me' thing.

and tbh, provided that you don't talk about it, the only way her friends would find out is if she complains about you to them, and consequently get judged for it. which would be 100% on her, and you shouldn't bother caring.

"Saying that I should stop watching anime because she doesn't want her friends to find out she's seeing someone who likes "stuff like that"." Blasphemy, I say! That's like saying "Stop breathing because my friends don't like the way you are breathing.". Shit example, but you get the point.
Not gonna completely bash on her though since you really like her.

If she doesn't want her friends to know about your hobby, then she doesn't exactly accept and love you, rather an image of you she's arbitrarily trying to create. That's not healthy at all, you might want to back out while you can.

I know XD I need a anime loving girlfriend but their pretty rare in these parts. I'd sooner site a unicorn than find a girl who enjoys anything but TLC and greys anatomy

Would you break-up with a girl for only enjoying watching TLC and Grey's Anatomy or would you sit there and watch it with her and try to enjoy it too? Or would you just accept that she likes it and you don't and realize you guys can have different hobbies and still be together?

I am new to this whole anime thing-- and I'll be honest I thought the same thing as your girlfriend... but, I watched a handful and began to enjoy it. Though I do find the pervy scenes to be weird-- I guess, I just imagine weird, nerdy, old men drawing these scenes... Ha. I also find some of these forums to further solidify my original opinions of thinking that many anime fanatics are a little odd. But, then again I've talked to a lot of individuals that I realize are pretty 'norm'.

But, if I was with someone who thought it was weird I would just hope they would accept that I'm interested in it and not force it upon them... just watch it on my free time while they're working or watching their shows. It's okay to like different things. There is nothing wrong with that.

Good luck. :]

That doesn't make sense.

Right handed people do precision related things with right hand, which means operating the computer mouse, or cutting a steak with a knife while left hand holds it in place with a fork. Left hand is better suited for things that require grip. This should be basic knowledge for anyone claiming to be right-handed.

OP, she doesn't have to like anime herself, but she certainly shouldn't be concerned what her friends think about something so trivial.

I can't stand sports, but I'm happy to go and watch my gf play rubgy/do something else while she watches it.

Don't let her change you. A partner should support and listen to you about your interests even if they themselves don't like them.

Equally, don't try and get her to like anime. Some people just find it stupid and always will, and that's far enough.

'I love you because you're you. I'm happy that you're whole. I don't care if there are sides of you that I don't know, or don't like. If that's who you are, that's fine. As long as you're whole, that's enough for me.'-Kouko Kaga

I think there is a difference between giving up a bad habit and something you enjoy. If you partner convinces you to give up smoking I don't see the issue with that as smoking has been proven to cause cancer. Making the blanket statement that giving up anything for your partner makes you a cuck is pretty dumb. In fact a case could be made that any healthy relationship contains some compromise. But that's the thing compromise isn't inherently bad.

It just depends on what you are compromising on, in this case I don't see why he should give up something he enjoys completely for no real reason. Especially considering the reason for it is rather shallow.

Except a "habit" isn't a hobby. Doing drugs, smoking, drinking alcohol isn't a hobby. Drinking socially can be a hobby but so long as it doesn't turn into being drunk off your ass it is not a big deal.

So my statement still stands as Anime isn't a Habit it's a Hobby.

And yes, if your partner tells you to give up a hobby, you are a cuck. there you go.

Compromise in a relationship is shit like "Oh i don't want to do dishes but I hate folding laundry more. My partner has the opposite opinion and both need to be done so I'll do the dishes and they can fold." Not "Hey I think your hobby that you do on your own time is weird and I think you should give that up because of it."

Kuraokani said:
I've honestly thought about your 3rd opinion. When she said that she didn't want her friends to know she had a BF that watches anime, it wasn't condescending. It's more like her friends are really judgmental. I've tried to talk to her about her friends but I think it's to early to really give my opinion on that

And if she is around them that means she is okay with that sort of mentality and action. Honestly if they think anime is weird imagine how they would react when they know what kind of anime you watch and it just gets worse from there. And if she is trying to get you to give up on a hobby because her FRIENDS MIGHT think it's weird that is a red flag and you need to bail.

You can't force people to like something, but if she's legit telling you to stop because she thinks she'd be embarrassed about dating someone who likes anime in front of her friends... I mean I don't know about you but that'd be a basically unacceptable stance in a relationship for me. I can't say I would want to date anyone who actually thought that way about me. Doesn't matter what the hobby in question happens to be. You should at least try to accept that your partner might have different preferences even if you don't like them yourself, and trying to take the moral high ground in the process is just ridiculous. Granted, you probably shouldn't force her to watch anime in the first place either, but this is definitely going too far as a reaction to it

Soooo yeah I'd break up with her if I was in your position

She's likely only heard rumors, and has never actually sought out series to watch. Ignorance is all it is. Instead of spreading your angst all over the internet, introduce her to some series that you consider fitting, series like DN and CG, which while they may not be my favorite series serve as a good introduction to the medium. Ghibli films and other light films would be a good introduction, just ensure that they have little to no ecchi or she will probs look at you with disgust.

If you love anime and you want somebody that at least doesn't mind that you like it. Then you should know that it is NOT going to work out. It's just not.

I can't even imagine getting serious with somebody that dislikes anime.

Well I mean, you can always watch other stuff if she does not like it. Most anime is quite weird, its also over sexual and many women may find it inappropriate. I advice you either try to find a very simple anime or if anime is that important to you and you believe its something you want in common with your relationship then call it off.

Also, I don't understand how so-called "friends" should be allowed to judge her love interest (but again, you're exposing her to internet judgement so I guess it's a draw here).

So, as much as people say bros before hoes is the way to go (yes you are the ho in this situation) because bros are for life and whatever.

In the end, I kinda had to FORGET about that mentality of caring what my friends think of my partner. Because if I did (care what they think), I wouldn't be married. That point when you shed the idea that you are married to your friends but instead married to your partner is a special time... And it involves a lot of caring what your partner thinks over what your friends think because of your level of intimacy. Your partner is family- your friends are your friends. The balance is hard. And you might lose your friends in the process. It is just the way it is. You are not a single person flittering around in the world. And you have evolved into someone who is more.

And maybe your girlfriend just isn't in that space in her life yet that she is looking for a forever person. As much as 3 months is only 3 months. What about 6 months? And no matter how long she has been with her friends, you eventually have to be more to her than her friends.

I am personally a woman myself, and even had that feeling that my husband was more to me than my friends and possibly my other family. Which is why we got married. XD

I guess ask yourself if you would put her above your friends to a certain extent... and maybe explain a thing or two about bitches be jealous.

Understandable from children, but if she is around your age then she sucks. This is not about anime, but the attitude and way of thinking.

Could have choosen different titles to introduce her, but I doubt it would have made much difference with her preconcived ideas of anime fans.

I would of said just tell her it's something you enjoy doing and you will do it on your time and you appreciate her trying to show some interest in your hobby. However "she doesn't want her friends to find out she's seeing someone who likes "stuff like that"." Yea fuck that who are you dating her friends? or her? That really sounded cunty and a huge red flag and if she is constantly criticizing your hobby now. Have a sit down and tell her straight I respect that you don't enjoy my hobby but you need to stop nagging me about this because it is something I do on my own time that I enjoy. If she can't handle that just break up with her.
