Normally I wait for the series to end, then watch it. Some series on the other hand I watch while its airing to ride the live hype train, and to pretty much avoid spoilers if it's a huge series (MHA, OPM, AoT, etc). |

I can see value in both. I have really bad discipline, so if a series is complete, I may not have the self-control to pace myself. On one hand, bingeing something is really fun. You start to ride the emotional wave and really get invested, which may bring your enjoyment way higher than otherwise. But then the flipside is that the crash is much worse. I often feel empty inside after binge-watching a series too fast. Plus it works out better for my schedule to have an episode air once a week. That way I'm not danger of staying up all night watching. EDIT: I would also add that it depends on what kind of anime it is. If it's something that has a very serious story that depends on continuity, then probably wait until it's complete. But if it's something with episodic arcs like slice of life, then you're probably fine watching it every week. To me, it's about striking that balance of emotional investment. You don't want to burn yourself out, but you also don't want too much time to pass because you'll stop caring. |

I rarely go for airing anime, usually only when I've already read manga/played visual novel that gets adapted into a series. I like reading theories and engaging in discussions, but on the other hand, I usually can't remember characters, their personalities and the plot just after one episode, and waiting whole week for another one would just kill off my whole fun from watching it, probably... I'm always surprised that there are people who each season watch 20+ series and don't get lost in it lolz. For me there have to be at least a few episodes so I can start watching it. |

I prefer watching shows as they air easier for me to keep up to date with them cos only a episode a week which is much easier for me to find time to watch |

Sometimes you end up with a Crunchyroll subscription. I love it to wait the last few minutes, it's like celebrating new year, especially if you found a new favorite show. Some shows can't be watched when they are still airing, like Flip Flappers. I'd have dropped it, but binge watching it is really entertaining. |

I usually wait until a series is over before watching it... unless its something I've been looking forward to for so long that I just couldn't help it. Even then I end up regretting it especially when the last episode available is a friggin' cliff-hanger. |

Just wondering if you guys watch a currently airing anime as it comes out (weekly for some, less regular for others), or if you wait until the entire season is out to watch it all. I personally haven't really had this "problem" yet for the animes that I've watched, but for Strike the Blood: II, I'll probably wait until the entire season is out. I generally don't have time to binge watch anymore so I prefer to watch currently airing anime as they air weekly because I can fit them into my schedule more easily. It also keeps me updated on reading weekly discussions on these anime as well. |

I think I would do that too if I watched any weekly airing anime, but the ones that come out with a few episodes every month or two make it harder to do that. I prefer to watch when it's finished airing. It's weird for me to watch one anime for 3-6 months. I tried to watch seasonals as they air but I've droped them all because I've lost any interest after a month or so, so I don't do this anymore. The only exception is when I really can't wait to watch something, in such case I'll start watching it 1 month before it finishes airing but not earlier. Though I'll probably watch Attack on Titan 2nd season weekly from the start because there will be spoilers all over the net and I hate spoilers. |

Depends on the show. Sometimes I don't mind watching them airing, others I just wait for them to air. Something episodic is definitely something I don't mind watching as it airs, but something thriller/mystery is sometimes better seen all at once. |

yea depends on the show is the obvious answer the most common pattern i have is for the seasonals i am most interested in, i start them asap and follow closely in the first weeks and then lag behind but still finish them not too late after they end for sequels i usually wait until more episodes come out anything else is chaotic particularly 2 cours |

When I started watching anime I tended to binge watch series over the span of a couple of days, or weeks depending on the length. Though now, I have less free time than I used too, so I pretty much just watch shows that are airing. Its also quite fun keeping up with discussions on new episodes as apposed to talking about a series after its over. |

I think viewing weekly is some kind of cheating your emotions, just like food tastes better when youre starving. Binge watching gives a better understanding and allows analysis more. To each his own I guess For me weekly watching just means that where I'm very immersed on a marathon I need like 10 minutes for each episode to really get into the flow of the show again. The hype and excitement of an episode fades into nothingness when I can't follow up on it and instead spend one week on 30 other shows before I get another episode of that show I initially was so hyped about. And then it needs to hype me again from 0 to provide a comparable experience. Weekly watching makes shows more memorable because you spend like 13 weeks during which the show is 'on your mind' compared to 2-3 days when you marathon something. But it can't improve immersion, and depending on the type of show immersion makes or breaks the experience for me. When I have to get into the same show 13 times (each week) it's just hard to ever get as involved with the story and characters as when I can watch the show at my own pace. Maybe it's less of an issue if you generally don't watch that much, but one week of waiting can easily mean 50-100 episodes that I watch before I get to next week's episode. It's hard to stay engaged like that. Momentum is very important to me when it comes to maximizing the enjoyment when watching something. I don't always want to watch another episode after I've seen one, but I hate the feeling of not being able to make use of my excitement after a good episode and just having to suppress it and watch something else. Similarly binge watching can also make the experience less enjoyable if you're forcing yourself to do it even with shows that don't need it. But binging is always a choice and up to the individual, while not being able to watch more than one episode at a time just comes with the territory when you watch seasonals weekly. |
I probably regret this post by now. |

I agree that it depends a lot if not solely on the type of show and mood. So its the inability to choose(when the show is still airing/unavailable) whether you want to watch the next one or not, that is the weakest point of life overall. To each his own I guess No, I meant how my experience differed from my friends. I knew I wasn't getting the same experience. Also, I disagree with the analysis thing. 1 episode of an anime has a lot jampacked in it. If you watch it weekly, you'll have discussions regarding the single episode before the next one airs. For instance, I watched Code Geass weekly and each episode spawned some interesting discussions on Veoh that really colored my perception of the show by the time the next one came out. If you marathon it, you'll probably miss some of the subtleties the show was trying to throw your way, kind of like marathoning a manga vs reading chapter by chapter. |

For anime, especially those consisting no more than 13 episodes per season, I like to watch in one go/at least finish within 3 days. This way I remember the anime more. I can't stand around to wait weekly or whatever. Some of the Winter 2017 shows I'm waiting to finish airing so I can watch in one go. So what do you prefer? (And just as it goes, Hell Girl Season 4!!!! Is coming out in summer. Darn it, I'll never have enough time to watch everything). |
