Since Mayoiga is about halfway trough its run, are you disappointed in what it turned out to be?
Most people seem to have expected something like Another or Battle Royale, or at least something serious with lots of killing.
Or maybe something silly with lots of killing.

As of now, nobody is officially pronounced dead and seeing how people are hallucinating, we can't be sure if that was really Rapper-kun in the river.

So basically: this is not what you expected, are you salty?

Who said I expected this?

It turned out better than it appeared to be on the surface. I rather have this, than a battle royale with killing what not.

I like stories where it shows ugly sides of humans and society. Where a lot of strangers are in one place, which naturally leads to a lot of negative emotions from them. I find that interesting.

It's a story about lost people who have a lot of fears and insecurities grouped together in a strange place. And it's pretty good at what it's aiming for. Nice build up so far. Showing signs and hints to what to come (for example the driver seeing his dead daughter) which subverted expectations from a ghost village to the character seeing their biggest fears literally come to life before their eyes in the form of many shapes and symbols.

There is also the mystery surrounding Misaki, which I'm interested to see how it unfolds, though I can probably already guessed what's direction that is taking.

No, I'm not disappointed. Though my already negative impression of these forums has sunk even lower (didn't even realize that was possible)

I really didn't expect this, that's for sure. You could say I'm disappointed because it didn't meet my expectations in terms of standards and it felt like I was trolled. I mean, I guess it's okay because I keep watching it and it makes me laugh... so yeah. The ending will truly determine if I'm disappointed or not because I have mixed feelings for this series.

I was expecting an edgy train-wreck full of plot holes. I got spaghetti. I'm okay with that.
Now you're wondering if there's white text in any of my other posts.

Over there, I'm everywhere. I know that.

Not disappointed at all. Never expected a battle-royale-esque or kill all the characters story to begin with - and that's stupid anyways. Having mystery like this is way better anyways, and is what I wanted and I'm getting more than what I expected. So far this show is great and definitely one of the best of the season.
Only thing I'm disappointed in is MAL's mentality.

Yes I'm. This anime is literally about nothing... okay nothing but giant plastic boobs xDD I mean seriously... this supposed to be a scary mistery anime, but the whole story is boring, in the episodes nothing really happens, the characters are annoying as hell not to menation how stupid and irresponsible they are. There is nothing about this anime that I can like at least a little bit. I really don't feel that I would be unfait when I say this is probably the worst anime I've ever seen. EVER!

For me personally, this is one of the worst animes I've ever watched. The voice acting is shit. Characters are painfully generic. The dialogue is dull and simplistic (in a bad way), like it's written by the most incompetent writer ever. The story is uninteresting for me at this point.

I will finish it despite obviously disliking it by now. I wonder if it will get so utterly bad to warrant a score of 1 from me. For now it's a solid 2.

It's not tagged as a horror, so there was nothing to expect it being like Another.
But this anime might be deserving of the dementia tag if anything.

Same here :)

Though in a way you could even say it exceeded my expectations... in the negative sense. It's much worse than what I thought.
I found it pretty funny too up until the last ep... Now it's getting cringe worthy :s

Yea, I had little to no expectations for this show and it consistently week after weeks gives me, imo, absolute fuckery. It's an entertaining trainwreck at least but idk if I can handle the characters, the setting is the only thing this anime has going for it imo.

Nah, it was written by a committee, which probably functions a lot like the characters itself.

This anime plot is vague to begin with from episode 1, unless they read the manga, I don't think anyone can predict the outcome.

I agree with some of the point here, it seems the writer just write up the story as he comes up ideas along. The only thing this anime got going for itself there's a diverse group of different characters, that each other of anime viewers can relate or would support, as well as the situation that they're in.

There's only one sane person with common sense in the entire cast, and she doesn't even get a decent screen time. Yes, I'm disappointed.

Yes, I am. It had to be a mystery but instead it took them 7 episodes to reveal that they were hallucinating some stuff no one cared about. I thought the anime was going to be all about the village but in every episode there is a different storyline and the one in a previous episode is left behind. I thought it would be intriguing but every episode seems pointless which was unexpected.

I'm actually a bit disappointed.. When I started watching Mayoiga, I thought it will be interesting, very mysterious and the characters will be different and well made, but damn I was disappointed.. Yes, characters aren't that bad, but that story.. Wooow.. So "mysterious".. After a few episodes I actually started to think that it's annoying. There weren't so many deaths than I expected, no blood or very catchy scenes. It was boring to watch when almost all characters were acting the same while torturing that poor girl.. Dude, if you're threatening to kill her and you don't believe her, then just stab her. But naaaah, he just has to shout the same crap all over the place for half of the episode. Well, at least the art isn't bad.. To sum up, I was disappointed, but I'll still continue watching it. I hope it gets better.
P.S Sorry if I made any grammatical mistakes.

I started watching this hoping for a massive trainwreck where each bland and generic character dies one after another for no reason, so basically a so-bad-it's-fun kind of show. Instead I got a pretty boring story with lots of bland and generic characters.

haven't watch the recent episode but i must agree that i disappointed a little bit. most of the reason is because of the character. i'm not saying that the characters are bad in general. imo, it fits well for such story but! it's too much for such story imo. and for the other reason is because of the rushed episode (backstory/flashback episode) and yeah...one more....only a little death....not even that hardcore like another

well, let's just see.....

I don't know where people got the impression that this anime was going to involve loads of death/killing?
To me at least, this anime was always presented as a mystery anime (and not a murder mystery one either).

I am (more or less) enjoying the mystery story Mayoiga. However there are frustrating elements to the anime which somewhat ruin its watch-ability and so I wouldn't rate this anime that highly (which is disappointing as it could have been so much better). Right now I think I'm going to give this anime an overall rating of 6 or 7 (its above average but its not that great).

I expected it to be exactly what it was said it was gonna be - a mystery. And I'm so disappointed. The cliffhangers are the only things done properly and the rest of the episode are some dumb conversations after which the storyline hadn't taken even one step forward. It's silly and the mystery there is how it's possible for these people to be so dumb. If there is one logical thing to do, they do the exact opposite and even if that can be explained by the fact they can't escape and have no idea what to do, no one focuses on the mystery which is frustrating.

the pacing in this anime is bad, sometimes I feel like the scenes were thrown in at random times and none of the characters are decent (except Nanko... Lion is okay but I still don't get what's the deal with her)

but at least this series isn't another Battle Royale or Another. I prefer these kind of mysteries anyway instead of your average killing each other without any real plot hahahah

I feel like this series could have been better if it's handled properly, but oh well :/ I guess I'll wait until final episode to see whether I'm disappointed or not.

I got watered down Silent Hill with absolutely everything interesting removed and replaced with Okada tropes.

Yeah... I was expecting it to be similar to Another... But nope! I wouldn't mind it having just a fast phase, but it feels like they are adding too many focus on useless things. They should have at least kept the focus on the characters like Another. It was an entire class, but they only focused on a few relevant ones, and briefly introduce the others when needed. The characters wouldn't be so annoying if they did it like that...

Since the thread already says spoilers...that dumb guy Jack with the eyepatch...he's alive...so that's what only the guy who drowned is dead? Damn it...I want death! I want another scary/creepy anime like When They Cry or Another.

nah it had a brief description before it was aired, so no one knew what it was really about, it only had certain writers/studio going for it, but other than that there were no real expectations.

however what I am expecting is a absolutely fucking awful ending, there's no way these writers are taking the anime so seriously that they'd forfeit the chance to ruin it even more.

At first I didn't know what to expect.
After the first 2 episodes, I, too, expected more deaths. But the truth is, that it is hard to wait every time for the next episode because this show makes me interested in the sequence.
And actually, seeing how most of the characters getting crazier and crazier is enjoyable.
(Also, it has some ridiculous things and sometimes shitty logic, so I can laugh at it.)

Overall, I'm the person who is pleasantly surprised.

Well, I don't really know that I'm disappointed. I knew this show was not that great when I started. I just didn't think it was THIS bad. This is one of the worst mystery series I've ever seen. Seriously, everything is done wrong.

The dialogue is clogged with as much exposition and ideals the characters hold as possible to the point where there really isn't any characterization occurring in what the characters are actually doing. There are simultaneously too many characters and yet no character at all. There are like 20 or so characters and they don't seem to know how to develop any of them. The plot is paper-thin, unlikely, and predictable. The art is mostly bad. Character designs are as underwhelming and bland as the characters themselves. The music is terrible. The music is one of the weirder failures in the show. I really don't understand how you can fuck up the music, but somehow they did.

What exactly is redeeming here? The background art? Because that's all I've found worth anything in this show so far.

As @Risu-nee said, this anime is about nothing.
I though it would be similar to Forbidden Siren or Fatal Frame, but it turned to childish "scary" story with lots of unnecessary and poor developed characters and disappointing plot holes.
Will finish it just out of curiosity, but suspect there won't be a good quality ending.

Yes, because I hoped Mayoiga would turn out a good drama or a good thriller, but neither of these were developed in suffice. And, man, it had potential to be more than a rigged game of poker against the viewer if they have focused on telling the story, not hiding it.

And if the end happens to be the open type or the revelations unbelievable, it would just be another 'wtf' waste.

What i expected of mayoiga was not an apearance of ghost or bloodbath scenario. When the first time i stumbled upon its genre, i expected a clever writing and a coherent storytelling.

instead, what i got was a drama about a bunch of lost kid. and who the fuck wrote the script seriously?

I personaly felt insulted by this particular anime...

Honestly, I did expect something like Another and Battle Royale, but I'm slightly intrigued by the characters.

Instead of characters I don't care about just killing one another, we get characters going through their hardships. Leaving the outside world to this so-called village that will bring them to their new lives, only to be found trying to conquer their shadows (kinda though not really like Persona lol)... I'm still interested in watching this.

The only problem I have with Mayoiga is how they transition the characters into their backstory, the pacing, and the lack of common sense they have. Some parts simply made me laugh, while others made me cringe. I don't like some characters particularly, but I do understand why they act like that. I learned a bit from everyone as I learn of their past. Nyanta, Valkana, Maimai, to Mitsumune as well... Even Mr. Yandere Hayato has his story as well.
