As other people here I really like this episode, I like how shinji finally found someone in which he can trust and feel comfortable with, not in a sexual way but more like a true friend he always wanted.

Fuck. ;v;

I really admire Kaworu's character. Not because he loooooves Shinji, but because he was the only goddamn person who had a positive bond with Shinji. Out of all the people Shinji could've gotten consolation from, it was this random kid who appeared out of nowhere who made him felt like he was loved. That frickin contrast with Shinji rejecting Misato's hand but allowing Kaworu to hold his hand was yes, incredibly gay, but I was so relieved that the MC was opening up to someone. The fact that Shinji had never heard anyone say "I love you" to him until then was just ;v;;;;; heartbreaking. It's so ironic that all this time, Shinji had been looking for a mother figure (consciously or unconsciously), but in the end he felt love from someone of the same gender. Unlike the majority, I've liked him a lot since the beginning, so I found myself sympathizing with him.

But also: Megane-kun likes Misato?!?! omfg. I ship them a lot more than Kaji/Misato.

This legitly was the gayest episode I've ever watched. ;_;

But, it weirdly fits into the series , in a very weird way.. Idk, Shinji has some feminine charactersitics too, but he's defenitely not gay imo, boy is just a broken person.

managed to catch up with the 2k15 evangelion hype, and man am i glad to finally see kaworu.

...although i didn't predict that he would die in the same episode he was introduced, but seriously every scene he's in looks amazingly glorious. from the first scene where he was humming to ode to joy, to when he was talking to the Seele guys on the winged stone thing, to descending gracefully towards the Terminal Dogma.

y'all saying that this is gay af and probably was uncalled for but shinji was happy - to be appreciated, to have someone looking out for him and caring for him and actually /wanting/ to break down his defensive walls. i haven't seen him blushing in the entire series more than he did in this episode.

hello, hope's peak academy

I've got to say, this was my most favourite episode of the series. I thought it would have been much more powerful if Kaworu was introduced at least a few episodes earlier so we could get a chance to get to understand his character better but other than that, it was a very good episode.

Half the read is bitching about the sudden "shounen-ai" and completely ignoring the fact that nothing is making a lick of sense. Seriously, what the fuck is going on? @_@

I very much agree about Kaworu; both that he was an interesting character and that he should've been introduced earlier on for best results. This episode was very interesting and damn powerful... aside from the fact that nothing is making a lick of sense.

Man why did Kaori have to go away the moment he was introduced? He was a great character I was looking forward to seeing for the rest of the couple episodes left of the show. Also, where is the Fourth Child doing now? Is he no longer used to pilot an Eva anymore?

Shinji is definitely gay for Kaworu. ( he's hot as fuck after all )

Good episode, the music was very fitting imo. Dat moment of silence before Kaworu got killed by Shinji was brilliantly done as well.

To be fair, Kaworu is actually the only one after everything that happened that says he cares for him - after being used so many times by his father etc.
And yes I agree, the relationship between them could've been built up better.

We found out Kaworu is Adam, or at least his soul ... Gendo has Adam's body (imbedded in his hand) after all.

Asuka has gone completely depressed, thinks she has no reason to live anymore, no regard for her own life.

Kaworu saying:
"This is the light of my soul. A sacred territory in which no one may intrude. Aren't you Lilin even aware that your AT field is merely that wall that encloses every mind that exists?"

Then after Shinji meets up with him at the ending of the episode:
"Death of the self, removal of the AT field, that is the only absolute freedom."

I thought that was a beautiful line.

I really liked this episode but the addition of Kaworu to the main cast was poorly executed in every sense of the word. Also, Shinji's ideals are really screwed up. He suspects that he's killed his long time friend? He moans for an episode and gets back on his feet in the next. He kills Kaworu after he's known him for 10 minutes and had one conversation? He slips into depression. God I hate Shinji so much. Kaworu might have been an alright character had there been more episodes but that's certainly not the case. Now just two more episodes and the movie to go. I'm feeling sick and I want off this crazy rollercoaster

Oh no, don't brush off the incident of almost killing Toji as moaning for an episode. He threatened to destroy half of Nerv. For the first time, he stopped trying to understand his father and said outright that he hated him. He stopped being a pilot, and only went back because Asuka and Rei can't do it by themselves. He was absorbed into the plug for a month, and his movements were restricted until recently. Shinji changed.

Also, in that situation, Shinji had no control. It was the dummy Rei doing all the work. Here he kills Kaworu with his own hands, who at this point in time is his only friend. The only person ever to even try and understand Shinji and show him some compassion, and the only person to say he loves him. How sad.

But I do agree... Kaworu as a character was poorly executed, since clearly the significance of his character and death is lost on some viewers.

But for the laughs, lol gey.

The pairing that broke the camel's back on the Mountain. ep 24

Plot: Asuka's out due to the mind rape so the fifth child Kaworu Nagisa arrives. And he loves Shinji. He actually seems-oh wait he's the last Angel. Tough break Shinji.

Character:Kaworu is strange. He's the last newest chara to appear but managed to rock everything by just being there. The fact that he was an Angel/Human hybrid brings alot of questions such as the idea that the two dnas could come together and the significance that it is actually Lilith crossed to the wall.

His affection for Shinji was quite nice considering everything else happening to the kid but that makes it the most insidious. If the Angels were learning/studying the enemy, then they really hit all three main pilots were it hurts and after all this may have scored a victory. Kaworu was the killing stroke that doomed everyone.

Shinji: It's obvious to see why Shinji got to so well on with Kaworu. All of Shinji's friends are gone, Asuka out, Rei is...question mark, and his fear of getting close to people has hit an all time high. Yet a friendly smile(and maybe some attraction on the inside) suckered him in. So when Kaworu advances on Lilith, Shinji's rage, pain, and other emotions are believable.

Background: Numerous things were said and done. Gendo's plans are coming soon as ADAM grows in his Hand. Does it have to consume his entire body to work?

SEELE having Kaworu in their pocket and thus making the first strike against Nerv.

Kaworu reveals that the AT field is the light of His Soul. The power the Eva were using were their own souls as they pierced through the one barrier keeping everything out and struck down the Angels. Really neat and poetic once thought about.

The Invisible Wall that keeps everything away. A strong one can keep you safe but no one can get close. A weak one would collapse against the strong and the heart behind would be swept away.

5/5. It feels like the true end to the tv show. The world is saved. Shinji won but still lost. And something is about to happen.

I go where I wanna go, even if its into Oppai.

Episode 24 is by far my favourite episode in the series. It's immensely powerful!

Those that are using words like "shonen-ai" about this episode really, really don't understand it at all. Labels like that totally cheapen the series and the experience. Shinji was sexually attracted to Kaworu, but this is an important character point not just some fan service shonen-ai ...

Exactly. Shinji had no one else to turn to. Asuka was in the hospital, he couldn't face Rei anymore, nor his classmates...

He only had Kaworu to turn to. Kaworu showed him kindness and acceptance.

Shounen-ai, my ass..... though I do like the occasional fanart once in a while ^^'

There's no reason to believe that Shinji was attracted to Kaworu. If you had never been shown affection before, and lived a life of loneliness, and then someone showed deep affection to you and cared morr about your life than there's, feeling love for them only makes sense.

So let me get this straight. What they said was Adam is actually Lilith? The real Adam is Gendo's hand? Lilith is the "progenitor" of humanity? Adam is the "progenitor" of the angels?

Literally couldn't give 2 fucks about Nagisa since he was introduced this episode. -__-

Oh so Lilith is the progenitor of humanity and not Adam like I thought, but then again I thought Adam was the angel on the cross.

Poor Shinji experienced betrayal yet again after making so much progress. I'm disappointed at how he allowed himself to be taken advantage of due to his insecurities and vulnerabilities despite having already experienced care from someone like Misato. He has regressed a great deal into a state of brokenness once again and anyone who showed him love and care would immediately be deeply trusted. Love, care, acceptance, things that everyone desires regardless of how much they may deny it, and some become so desperate that they'll accept any offering of it. He already received these things though, but it appears that in his regression he believed that it wasn't enough. I guess he views Misato as more of a guardian figure rather than a confidant who truly understands him. Loneliness can lead to much pain. Pain is suffering. Naturally, many would choose to relieve their suffering if possible, and Kaworu's "cure" to his resurfacing severe loneliness was exactly what he required. I imagine that since the show is leading Shinji back down the dark path after having made so much progress that they'll probably dial up the angst. Hopefully this will be a "the darkest night comes before the brightest morning" type of deal.

As for Kaworu, he seemed rather interesting but everything regarding him was too rushed and ultimately produced many questions with only two episodes left to resolve them.

If Gendo is the body and Kaworu is the soul, then Rei must be the mind.

Ok, I officially have no idea what the fuck is going on lol...

So Kaoru was the last Angel, but he was clearly sent by SEELE, so are they the ones behind sending the Angels then? We know they just want the Angels to die, their intent was for Kaoru to die after all, which he did. So have all the Angels thus far just been sent to get themselves killed? If so, wth is the point of it all lol? Ugh, idk.

We did learn that Shinji's Eva most likely has the spirit of his mother in it though, which explains why it only works for him and protects him. Also since this Kaoru Angel was the spirit of Adam or w/e, does that make Rei the spirit of Lilith? Since shes apparently similar to him?

Again Idk, I really don't know wth is going on lol. Hopefully these last few episodes will explain everything.

Felt like Shinji became too attached to Kawarou for the short time they've know each other imo.

I get that Shinji had no one else to turn to and Kawarou showed him kindness and acceptance but still think it happened to quickly (if Kawarou had appeared earlier in the series it would've been more impactful imo)

Shinji holding Kawarou would've been intense if it hadn't been a 1 min. long stare down (thought I has accidentally paused it while watching said scene which took away from the intensity of the scene).

This episode felt super quick.
Honestly I wish they would have been able to expand on Kaworu's character more, with more episodes. Oh well.
I think because Kaworu's existence in the series was so short, his death really didn't impact me too greatly.
Also whoa, Misato and that control guy? Kaji I miss you! ;_;

(rewatching again)

"I was born to meet you"
A lot of extra stuff was explained in this episode, as well as correcting some misleading information that the characters were mistaken about.

That's a long scene on purpose. Did you get irritated? Did you become impatient? Good. You felt something, even if it wasn't what Shinji was feeling.

5/5

How to finish the series:
Watch 25 & 26.
Wait a while.
Watch Death True^2 (it's a good review of the series) followed by End of Evangelion (a different perspective but same as 25-26).

Literally...I don't even know what is going on anymore tbh LOL

I definitely wish there was more development in the relationship between Kaworu and Shinji. I mean development of whatever relationship they have since it was definitely rushed. It legit looked like they met, Kaworu confesses, turns out he's the last angel, and then dies. The end. I'm still not completely sure I understand their relationship.

This is my analysis of the 'confession' and their relationship though-- Shinji mentioned towards the end of the episode how he treasured the time he spent with Kaworu and his confession was something he never hears. Kaworu touched Shinji on a level he never experienced before, and he is even able to express his deepest thoughts. This is why in contrast to when Misato tried to comfort Shinji by holding his hand, he refused it but when Kaworu put his hand on his he did not react how he usually does when he gets close to people. This is also why during their 'talk' at night Shinji confessed how he hated his dad. He has never really openly expressed this to anyone, not even his dad. Sure, he clearly appeared angered, but sharing his deepest thoughts with others is not something Shinji normally does. At the end, Shinji basically admits that he loved Kaworu too. Yet I think the love he is talking about may not be the romantic or sexual attraction we are thinking about. I think it's the love buried in the past from his mom he does not remember and the love he never received to nurture him as a child. That's just my opinion.

As for whether or not Kaworu felt romantic love towards Shinji...I'm not so sure of either. I remember in the episode I was confused because right before he confessed he talked about how Shinji was delicate as glass. He felt sympathy for Shinji, despite not really knowing him for that long and then he goes on to say that he loves him.

...Sympathy and love don't exactly lead to the another...or so I thought. Without a doubt the sympathy Kaworu felt was not the shallow pitying of someone's misfortunes. The sympathy Kaworu felt was a resonance, an understanding of Shinji's feelings. In this sense, then it would make sense that the love Kaworu felt was an attachment or fondness towards Shinji. This also explains why when they had their little pillow talk and Shinji shared his hate of his father, Kaworu felt this connection to him. He said how it was as if they were destined to meet. It's not disgusting, misplaced in the show, or out of context at all I think. It was very beautiful.

I was hoping the last 23 episodes were building up to something, so it's strange seeing a new character and an arguably new sexual orientation for the main character suddenly introduced out of nowhere.

I've come this far, so I'll get through the last two episodes tomorrow, but... ugh. It's been a chore slogging through these episodes. I have a disturbing feeling that I'm ultimately going to end up even more disappointed than I already am.

Nice to know we have all these homophobes on MAL. Seriously though, it was a good ep. And the part whereEva 01 was holding Nagisa in his hand was intense. I also thought that Shinji may have been attracted to him in a not so pure way. But, as others have said Asuka is gone, and Misato is distanced from Shinji, so he had no one to turn to. And, as we know by now, Shinji is very dependant on others. So, I think it was fairly natural given his character.

I do, however, wish Nagisa was introduced earlier in the series because I don't think this episode had as much impact as it could have had.. But, maybe Rebuild will rectify this.

the funny thing is kaowru who is supposed to be alien is the most human(he act like a normal human) among all EVA pilot too bad they get rid of him quickly i wish if he was introduced earlier his death would have much more impact on the viewer and shinji and why is asuka in the hospital and look like she's in coma i know she's depressed but did she try to commit suicide?
overall good episode actually the last part of the series is much better than its first part but still i don't care for the characters what interest me is the plot and the revelations .

@Pixel_Vapour He/it was initially planned to join the cast a lot sooner (second quarter or middle, I forgot). Anyway, his role in this episode was certainly not to make people sad for him. (maybe something more like being the first "person" willing to fully act for Shinji and the final piece for helping Shinji to "go away" from his father, along providing more informations: Lilin/Lilith/Adam/Seele/Gendô).

PS: Anno wanted to direct his own take on a famous scene from his favourite Gundam too, probably. I realized it a few days ago.

edit @Kryptiq I doubt that what is Kaworu is interested in human sexes (rather in the First Children), and Shinji can't refuse unconditional love/affection/support.

Now I see where Persona 3 got its inspiration for Ryoji Mochizuki. The fact that they're both voiced by Akira Ishida, is all the more amusing.

Well after watching this episode, I think it's even more apparent that Shinji really needs his father in his life...All jokes aside, Kaowru's appearance was something I was anticipating since the beginning of the series and, while short, left quite a mark on me with his interaction with Shinji. I like the idea of this episode as a whole but I was disappointed on how the plot points were portrayed.
They honestly should have docked one of the less important episodes in the beginning and made room for some more character development of Kaworu. I understand where they were coming from and how Shinji became attached, but as a viewer, it would have been much more dramatic if Kaworu was introduced earlier and given more screen time.

I guess his death didn't pull at my heart strings like the other deaths and tragedies shown before :c

Agreed. Interesting concept but execution was really rushed and poor. Kaworu could've been a potentially great character had he gotten more screen time. The impact he had on Shinji would also have felt more natural. This wasted potential really pisses me off.

@KatanaRabies It seems normal that losing someone granting him unconditional affection and support (if you know his other relationships) affects Shinji a lot.
But you are on the same line as some of the makers t in a way since he was supposed to come way earlier (middle series maybe, not sure).

As for "the viewer", it's certainly not about how he feels about the characters. Or most of the characters would act rather differently.

April 28, 2019
@mckerfoot It's not "the cover", it didn't mean anything (plus the character ended up being of importance as the sole being freely accepting the hero and the last Angel). It's only one poster among others that this website decided to use as main picture, as arbitrarily as it could have chosen one of the original VHScovers or Renewal/Platinum edition covers.
