In fact, if it even contains 2 or even 1 of those I might very well even brush it off (though I'm a bit more lenient with "comedy"). Some I can think of that I avoid... Suzumiya Haruhi, Monogatari series, Mushishi, Natsume Yuujinchou, Aria the Animation, Lucky Star, Nichijou... Genres: Comedy, School, Slice of Life I'm weary whenever I see these 3 together as well. Especially when there's no other genres listed. It sounds boring, and I really dislike SD art style, it makes me think it's more oriented towards children. Maybe you should watch a clip of it. Maybe you'll be amused, maybe you won't, but I'll just say that the comedy is really... over the top. Just your everyday slice of life high school hijinks down here. Bland: That being said, it does use the hit and miss approach. If it misses, eh. But when it hits... It was an absolute spectacle and I enjoyed all of it. |
Deconstruction ≠ Darker & Edgier Trope ≠ Cliché (Face it, nothing is completely original. Can't make something from nothing so to say.). Fanservice ≠ Ecchi (Though ecchi can please the fans!) Popular ≠ Sucks... maybe Seinen = K-ON! Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen and Josei are demographics. Anime/Manga = Japanese Cartoons! Deal with it. Support Movember. Raise awareness of men's health issues. Put a mustache on your avatars or something... |

You attacking a fandom doesn't help on your points and some of us are getting honestly sick of seeing how every discussion on this show is contaminated by parallel and uncalled judgements instead of focusing on content. When saying childish I mean the cartoonized traits (even though I've watched and liked many anime with similar characters' traits) and some dialogues that I have happened to read on the internet (Just Luffy saying some stuff while sad, or some supposedly wise quotes). I repeat though, I haven't seen this series at all, so I may be completely wrong. Also, I've heard there are almost no deaths which makes it seem very unrealistic imo. I don't like attacking anyone, but I get annoyed if I write down my opinion and people start judging my tastes because I 'insulted' theirs. I was focusing on the content, and I wrote down what I mean by childishness, so if you think I am wrong you can just provide arguments. |

I repeat though, I haven't seen this series at all, so I may be completely wrong. Also, I've heard there are almost no deaths which makes it seem very unrealistic imo. I tend to disagree when One Piece fans quote stuff that appears deep because this is not a series that uses complicated terms, it is straightforward, after all. And most of the time context is about as relevant as the phrase itself. If I told you that one of my favorite quotes in One Piece is told by Dr. Hiruluk, you'd probably judge this decision wrongly because on paper it looks cheesy, and overemphasized. But on the emotional context of the character, the relation with the rest of his acts and his situation, where he comes from, what lead him to pronounce this phrase... it's where the words take their meaning and their depth. On the other hand, I definitely can't agree with the appreciation on cartoonized traits, but I guess it's up to each one. I just think that slapstick and wacky are too broad concepts to fit a determined age range. People still laugh at this type of comedy no matter their age. danae17 said: I don't like attacking anyone, but I get annoyed if I write down my opinion and people start judging my tastes because I 'insulted' theirs. People do this lots of times on the Internet and in most cases they are not serious at all. And I actually do have issues if you create an image for a whole fanbase, or "in general", just because a couple random users decided to troll you with cheap and aggressive one-liners, whatever their real intention is. I can even safely say that some of those who answered you were not even serious because I know their history in the forums. |

@jal90 I see. Maybe it's because I haven't watched the series that I have this opinion on cheesy simple quotes or cartoonized traits. After all, when you are emotionally attached to a series or it is just one of your favorites, you see it from a different perspective. Idk about the characters and what they've been through, so I can't relate or sympathize with them, nor can I enter the whole atmosphere. Well yeah, no hard feelings of course, I was just a bit annoyed at the moment. I wasn't talking about the whole fandom, just about the fans who always defend a specific series by saying nonsense (not referring to these users). |

One Piece is the only one of the big battle shounen series that I've not given the anime a shot and probably never will. I read the manga and I felt that while it was generally enjoyable, it had abysmal pacing and pretty much no real direction. I read over 300 chapters and I didn't feel like I made any progress in the narrative that connects the different arcs together. |

There are anime that I refuse to watch, but that troll TripleSRank isn't helping at all. Anyway, I refuse to watch SAO anymore, which in the long run, will just be as hard for me to commit as some cheesy shounen series. I will also avoid most of the anime we've had in the last 4 years and will also be watching anime very casually in the future. Death Note is average which I think I won't watch anymore, as well avoiding all the moe, harem, ecchi and overly CGI stuff. Witch Hunter Robin, Blood+ and Kiddy Grade are some I'll gladly refuse to watch, too. |

What I mean, is do you have any shows which you just have zero interest in seeing no matter how many people rec it to you, like whether you don't think it would be your thing/you have heard a lot of bad things about it. For me, I am 'avoiding' Kill la Kill because tbh a lot of the boobs and fanservice just really puts me off tbh, and Sword Art Online as I have heard so many bad things about it and from what I have seen it doesn't look like I would enjoy it at all. |
