I lean a bit more new, at the moment. Maybe I'm just not seeing the good older ones.

The year is irrelevant if it has a great story and characters

What's more good? Old or new?

Neither.

The point is that the age has nothing to do with how good the show is.

I shoulda rephrased that.

"What do you find more good? Old or new?"

This a preference thread, so saying something like "both" or "the good ones" is simply dodging a simple question you could answer by just skimming your list.

Couldn't vote between yes and no. It's hard to say these days, there are some pretty good new anime around, but they sadly just don't make good anime like the old days anymore - good fleshed out story and less gimmicks, it's all so commercial these days minus a few gems here and there.

There's nothing new under the sun, after all. The production quality will change with the times but humans have been pumping out good stories since Ancient Greece and beyond.

Although to answer OP's rephrased question, I'll just say that I have a heavy bias in choosing more recent anime to watch.

What do you mean by new and what do you mean by old?

Consider the fact that there is just as much bad "old" anime as there is bad "new" anime. You never really hear about bad older anime because what's the point in talking about it? Nobody really remembers them because they were mediocre shows.

I always hear about how awful newer anime is, and I'm simply assuming it's because people have to swim through a pool of shit to find a diamond. You don't have to do that with old anime because people have already sifted out the shit that flew down the river back whenever you consider "old" to be.

I prefer new but it's mostly because of the better animation.

Depends what you mean by old...

I like some old Anime (even do I prefer Older Manga over Anime), but still prefer newer Anime because of the Animation.

OK, anything 10 years from now, anything that finished 2004 and earlier is considered retro and old.

Now you have like 45 years from which to pick the best of the best from their respective age. Then you have the last decade which foiled down from 2008 onward.

So much this. There are just as much crap old anime as there are now.
I guess I could understand that some people prefer the older styles, though.

The only people who say stuff like that are the people who weren't around to see all the garbage. Take yourself for example with your 65 completed anime (A very large majority of them being from the late 2000s onwards)

It's easy to say stuff like that when you haven't seen a single bad show made before the year 2004 but trust me when I say they do exist and there's plenty of them out there.

Well, better animation never hurt anyone xD But still I'd watch a good ol' anime regardless of the animation.

Also to note that 2011 --> Now pumped out quite few note-worthy anime.
It's natural for a person to deny he's a failure as a human being. That's why he searches for somebody who is more miserable than himself. That's why so much animosity exists on the internet. Those who aren't able to find a more miserable person, turn to the internet and call other people losers, even though they've never met. Just to make themselves feel superior. isn't that pathetic? There's a sense of security that comes from speaking badly of someone else. But that isn't true salvation. — Tatsuhiro Satou
