What do you think of people that refuse to watch shows that came out before the 2007/2010s because of "old art" or low res?

I like newer animation better,i dont mind shows with older art styles such as evangelion as long as the animation does not distract me with ridiculous proportions.

This picture's actually not bad. It's true that a lot of character designs nowadays are not realistic. There's still a fair amount of good ones, and the art style in general has improved, but there's a worrying tendency for huge head/eyes, moe, etc.

It's a step behind in evolution. Old anime girls looked like chimpanzees, new anime girls look like fish.

The main thing I miss are the noses. Man, those were the days when characters still had them and not just occasionally.
But the moe is stronger in the new character designs. If I feel nostalgic I can always watch some old OVA or something.
I probably regret this post by now.

Personally, I don't care.

People are entitled to like what they want. I've certainly struggled through a couple of series that are older and the animation is kinda clunky while I've powered my way through some good ones.

I'm not gonna think someones a shitbird because they didn't like an anime from 1986 because "the animation was bad".

But seriously though, I've been catching up from the Summer/Fall stuff from 2012 and man that was a bad year for me.

I do miss them as well, at times. But I haven't been that much bothered by, for instance, the Clannad designs. And they did look unappealing to me, when I was exposed to images and still frames of the characters. But in context I feel that they work perfectly applying to a certain standard of beauty the show aims for. This is actually one of my main issues with these comparisons. I can't take two pictures out of context, compare them and decide which one looks better.

Luckily not all modern Anime use that kind of character design...

Anime is a visual medium and so, using "art" or "visuals" being dated as an excuse is a valid one, as far as I'm concerned. Personally, I could give less of a fuck when the anime aired, so long as it's not hideous enough for me to not even give it a chance.

I don't really care if others avoid older shows. It's their loss.
I personally love some of the older stuff a lot and don't mind the dated visuals if it's awesome otherwise.

I prefer newer anime, but I still watch a few old ones here and there, as long as it's good. But it cant look too outdated. :P For example Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu, sorry, that's too old for my young eyes to handle.

anime is still drawn by hand, whats done on computer is the color, before with cels, artist had to physically paint every single cel frame by frame, was very time comsuming and expensive, now with digital, in just a few clicks on a computer, painting a layer has never been easier for companies.

It always seems to me that old art is unintentionally hilarious. I dig it.

It feels easier to say this new show looks like shit and to be honest it shouldn't look like shit.

What I really feel is pity for those who can't even handle anime before 2007. The degree to which that severely limits the viewing experience is quite staggering. Also, that leads to a dependence on being mainly pleased by visuals, putting the more important aspects of plot and characters to the side.

And a person like that even exists? I've never seen one.

Anyways, since anime is a visual medium, a person must go with whatever type of show he feels more comfortable watching. If new ones are the most relevant for him, do as he pleases. I may say that he will be missing a bunch of great shows, but it's up to the person to decide which road to go

If that's their preference, then you have to respect their opinion. I do feel a bit guilty that their reluctance to view older anime will cause them to miss out on some truly wonderful gems.

Just like those who only play new games, instead of things like doom and quake.

1) How is playing new games instead of things like doom and quake a problem? I've never played those two, yet when I play games, I never feel as if I'm losing something.
2) Why are you assuming that preferring newer anime mostly means they have a lower attention span?

Either you are being sarcastic, or just plain dumb. Quake and Doom are the prime examples of mindless shooting, and are meant to be enjoyed without paying too much attention. Gaming is nowadays better than it's ever been, if someone says otherwise he needs to take those nostalgia rimmed glasses off.

And watching newer anime definitely doesn't require a shorther attention span. Just look at Gundam, every single episode has to have a fight to keep the kids watching to show interested.

The question is, is it really their preference based on actual elements of the art, or just a matter of "this is different from what I'm used to in current anime, therefore it's bad and outdated"?

In 10 years, anime made in 2014 will be considered dated and old, and it's possible that people who only watch things made today (And assuming they find things they consider to be a masterpiece) will wonder why the new kiddies watching anime don't like 'dated' anime made way back in that crappy ol' era of 2014, let alone the 70's-00's. Maybe then they'll realise that they might have made a mistake. But then again, people tend to be arrogant, and they probably won't realise that they're doing what certain folks have been doing to them up to that point.
It will ever be a never-ending cycle unless the folks of today break the chain and stop limiting themselves when they may genuinely like the stories of something that's 20+ years old and stop making the art/animation their reason to not watch something, especially considering that there are a few anime from 80's and 90's actually have art/animation far ahead of the norm of their time.

But then again, I know from personal experience that trying to force yourself to watch something you don't want to watch can severely affect your opinion of it. So whatever. Do what you do, it doesn't affect me any...That I know of *Dramatic music!*. I'll just continue enjoying anime from whatever time period it happens to be from. Assuming it's one I can enjoy.
