| Fillers can actually be good by hyping up the main story of an anime if done right. Say in a shounen anime, the current arc is finally at an end and the main protagonist is about to fight the villain, a couple filler episodes can intensify the battle because it makes the viewers crave for it more by adding the wait time. |

Main reason is most studios don't try to hard at filler for fear of screwing up the shows consistency or contradicting something the writer was going to do later. Thus filler is usually "low impact" where nothing much of importance to the actual storyline happens. |

| There's usually 1 good filler for every 30 stupid ones. An example of a good one would be Naruto ep. 102 (Kakashi's Mask). That episode is freaking legendary, and it was funny as hell. |

| Good question. If I were to guess its because their writers are crap if the show is based off many a but even then that seems unlikely. An example of perfect "fillers" would be mushishi and gits SAC, but they are both episodical shows which are pretty much entirely comprised of "fillers". When I say filler I mean an episode that in no way contributes to the direction of the plot, something completely off topic. Thanks for not posting a piece of shit question btw |

| Not all are bad. I've seen some absolutely fantastic fillers here and there. But yeah, most are not that good. It guess it comes down to the writers of those respective anime just not being as good as the original creator. |

| Echoing MrAM's argument, while there are some bad filler episodes (I particularly hated the Temacu episode of the Johto arc of Pokemon. God, that was a pain to sit through!), there are some very very good ones (Popolocrois Monogatari 1998 comes to mind). I particularly don't mind filler so much, just as long as it's not annoyed, and I only found a few filler episodes of some series that really made me cringe. |

| Fillers are fine as long as they're interesting or provide character development. Fillers are bad when the studio isn't competent enough to make a coherent story arc. What pisses me off the most is when a half-season anime has time to put in three fillers. Then we have a filler-filled anime with a rushed plot. Seriously, you couldn't just pad it out a little? |
