Yayyy~ Looking forward to them!

What "Adolescence" do you have?
Do you remember "Childhood"?
The irreplaceable one existed there.

Wow, so Takahata really is making a new anime huh? I almost thought that was never gonna happen. Yamadas in the year 1999 was the last one he made, almost 12 years ago. Miyazaki has made like 3 movies in that time. Anyways, I'm really looking forward to what they both have come up with for their fans, especially the new takahata.
"...our faces marked by toil, by deceptions, by success, by love; our weary eyes looking still, looking always, looking anxiously for something out of life, that while it is expected is already gone – has passed unseen, in a sigh, in a flash – together with the youth, with the strength, with the romance of illusions.” - Joseph Conrad ('Youth')

Some extra information

Both movies will have 2 hr 5 min in length, to be shown separately.

Miyazaki's movie will cover the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the designer of the famous and dreaded ZERO fighter planes in WWII, from when he was 10 to 40, which means from 1913 to 1943. It is based on a manga that Miyazai drew and serialized on the monthly magazine from Apr 2009 to Jan 2010.

I have not read the manga, but apparently Miyazaki added a lot of extra story that may not be from the real life of Horikoshi. This is hinted by the mention of 堀辰雄 Tatsuo Hori in the movie poster. Hori wrote a novel also named Kazetachinu but it was not about Horikoshi and the novel was dated in 1936 when Horikoshi was still alive. The novel is a story about engagement and romance of the protagonist (named "I") with a girl who lives in Nagano, loves to paint but suffers from tuberculosis. It was based on the girl whom the author Hori had engaged in 1934 and who died in 1935. So the novel has nothing to do with Horikoshi. The novel itself has been made into live action movies twice, in 1954 and 1976, with the latter acted by the legendary couple Momoe Yamaguchi and Tomokazu Miura. My guess is that Miyazaki incorporated elements from the novel in the biography of the engineer Horikoshi when he drew the manga but I expect a large part of the movie will shed light on the role he played in designing the very successful Zero fighter in World War II.

For the title, the name 風立ちぬ Kazetachinu means The Wind Has Risen and it is the translation by Hori from a phrase of the poem "Le cimetière marin" (The cemetery by the sea) by Paul Valéry - "Le vent se lève, il faut tenter de vivre" (The wind rises. We must try to live.)
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

Wait so one of them is done by Miyazaki right? Ghibli is fine and all but honestly it is Miyazaki who makes me gasm, not the anime studio he co-founded...

Nevermind just read up, and saw one was by Miyazaki ... Honestly love his works ... love this year! (though kind of hoping for another similar to spirited away / princess mononoke / Nausicaa of the Valley of the wind soon, prefer his fantasy settings since they are visually stunning and have just the most imaginative plots.

Color me intrigued. I hear Miyazaki Hayao isn't as great a writer as he is a director though, so it should be interesting to see if how it blends. I feel a bit ashamed that I haven't watch any of Takahata Isao's work.

You should change that. I personally prefer his work as it's more, I don't, easy to relate to for me because he generally does more realistic settings.

Really can't wait to see the films! Hopefully they are just as good or even better than the other Ghibby films.

While I love Miyazaki to death, I have to say I'm looking forward to Mr. Takahata's film more than Miyazaki's. I love the story of Kaguya-hime and I'm super excited that its going to animated by Studio Ghibli. I'll still go see Miyazaki's movie in theatres (if they get released in a movie theatre close by) but its probably the fact that its about airplanes that I might not be as interested but I do love history so I'm going to try my best to see it, but I'm totally going to see Kaguya-hime first. But I'm super excited for these next movies! Can't wait to see them in subtitles.

Sounds promising. Both of the stories are masterpieces that could be enjoyable for mature audience. Just hope Miyazaki and Takahata will not make them girlish/childish, but maybe it's hopeless in light of their target audience.

Both movies actually sound really really cool and I can't wait. I think it's about time I start watching the rest of the Ghibli films I haven't seen there are still like 10 of them. Perhaps I'll have a sort of marathon in April and watch 1 movie per day.
