Boku no Hero Academia 5th Season

UA Academy's Class 1-A has been the focus of a substantial amount of public attention due to the multiple villain attacks they have faced over the past school year. This attention has left Class 1-A's rivals, Class 1-B, feeling quite bitter. Desiring to prove their skills, they look forward to the opportunity that has been given to them: a set of mock battles between the students of each class.

The classes are split into squads of four, each of which is tasked with capturing the other group members. The winner is the group who first secures all of the opposing team. While this sounds simple, a curveball is thrown into the mix with the inclusion of General Course Student Hitoshi Shinsou, who wishes to transfer into the Hero Course. Despite using his training with Class 1-A's homeroom teacher Shouta "Eraserhead" Aizawa to prove that he's capable of being a real hero, he is still far behind the others due to his lack of experience. However, Shinsou is determined to overcome this challenge.

Thus begins the fiery competition between Class 1-A and 1-B as each tries to prove that they are superior to the other.

This was honestly an anime I didn’t want to touch at first. Everywhere I looked, there were spoilers. And when a few people told me it was “boring” or “not that good,” I was even less motivated to start it. But when I finally gave it a chance, I was pleasantly surprised. The animation is gorgeous (and trust me, I’m a huge critic when it comes to animation), the character relationships are so well‑built, and the overall story is just… perfect. It’s original, emotional, and full of moments that hit way harder than you expect. Sure, some people say it gets “boring” at times, ... but honestly? Even during the slower parts, I kept looking forward to the next episode. And the sequels? I was hyped every single time.

Mixed Feelings

I had to skip the first arc for the most part because it was so boring, barely anything happened that couldn't have been summed up into like 5-6 episodes. I was not interested in anything that was happening besides Deku's stuff. There weren't any stakes that we cared about besides the loose threat of Class A losing to Class B, nothing in most of these episodes really moved the story along either.

Though there were some parts of this season I liked (I haven't read the manga). I liked the villain backstories since they made you think more deeply about the implications of living in a ... world full of super powers.

The Endeavor stuff and even the last arc for the most part, were pretty good. This season had some good emotional moments too.

So in retrospect, most of Season 5 was ok, but, this season had full episodes of some of the most uninteresting parts of the whole show. It got bad enough that by the end of it I began to care more about the League of Villains than most of the students, which is great if it's what they were going for, but the UA characters were really done dirty by this season so it's hard to appreciate the quality of the good parts.

It averages around a 6/10. It's fine because of the moments I liked but I wouldn't rewatch anything from this season besides a few small things, like some of the villain scenes.

It's fine at best. Only die-hard fans will say otherwise.

I watched this season after a bit of a hiatus (seeing the last season (4) some 4 years ago), so the plot in my memory was a bit hazy, but after a few episodes (through some flashbacks from our main heroes), to my surprise, nothing really changed plot-wise. IMHO, the whole show should've ended sometime after season 3. Everything else feels forced or/and milked. That, or I'm just growing out of the shonen anime genre and need something more mature.

At first glimpse, the initial premise for this season's first half is promising to say the ... least. We get to see our already introduced heroes, and additionally, the other class clash against each other. The tempo of watching these episodes was high. Of course, this cannot go on forever, and after some time, all good things come to an end. The latter half of this season was cool, don't get me wrong, but was it really necessary? Am I supposed to feel something for the "baddies" here? I wasn't that interested in this aspect, so the second half of the season took some time before I finished watching this.

I don't usually pay too much mind regarding art, but it seemed that the quality dropped; it's not as well-defined as I remember it to be during the first seasons. Might be just me, though. Can't say anything about the sound and OST at that. As I don't really recall any 'epic' moments (think of AoT) where you'd go and search for the specific track. This is not to say that the show doesn't have cool soundtracks; it really does, but nothing new to my ear, at least.

In conclusion, I don't think I'll really continue watching this show (unless my perfectionist side decides to finish what I've started) as it just lost the hype that it once had. It doesn't have that same cliffhanger as last seasons had. If I could describe this season in one word, it would be 'FILLER'.
