Elfen Lied

Lucy is a special breed of human referred to as "Diclonius," born with a short pair of horns and invisible telekinetic hands that lands her as a victim of inhumane scientific experimentation by the government. However, once circumstances present her an opportunity to escape, Lucy, corrupted by the confinement and torture, unleashes a torrent of bloodshed as she escapes her captors.

During her breakout, she receives a crippling head injury that leaves her with a split personality: someone with the mentality of a harmless child possessing limited speech capacity. In this state of instability, she stumbles upon two college students, Kouta and his cousin Yuka, who unknowingly take an injured fugitive into their care, unaware of her murderous tendencies. This act of kindness will change their lives, as they soon find themselves dragged into the shadowy world of government secrecy and conspiracy.

Gory. Perverted. Edgy. Pretentious. Aaand relaxing? Yes its everything and more. Did not expect to fall in live with this show as much as i did.

But yes its all the above. Tons of gore bliod and dismemberment. Not for the faibt of heart. Its perverted with quite alot of sexual content. Its edgy and pretentious. And i say that in a good way. You shouldnt take things to serious with tve story and find to much meaning but just go along with it. And somehow all this ends up being wuite relaxing at times. In the small town. With a soft spoken and interesting ... cast of characters.

Music is top with an incredible opening and catchy ED.

9/10.

Mixed Feelings

It's some of the most f*cked up trash you'll ever watch while also being one of the greatest animes out there. It's the car crash that bent into a piece of art. While I can't stand multiple aspects of the show, the fact that you'll never be bored while watching and wind up accidentally binging the series speaks testaments to its quality. It's a bloody mess (literally), it's horney in all the wrong ways, and the romance can't decide if it wants to go to Alabama, Utah, or Neverland Ranch. But even after now watching it for a second time since my first viewing over ... a decade ago, I still find myself binging it the same way I did that first time. I will admit my memories of it had some rose tinted glasses, which is why it's gone from a 9/10 easy recommendation to a 7/10 I'll tell you about it if you ask me, but I can rightfully say it's worth watching if you haven't seen it. It will hold your attention for 13 episodes undividedly, so long as you can get past the more problematic elements.

I watched Elfen Lied so you don't have to.

Oh boy, where do I even begin...This was just abysmally bad with next to zero redeeming qualities. To summarize Elfen Lied, it's an edgy harem anime with braindead characters and excessive use of gore and nudity for the sake of shock value. I don't know how some people see anything "deep" in Elfen Lied, because there just is nothing "deep" about it. I had to really force myself to finish this anime and it was just not worth it.

Let's talk about the story. The story itself is very simplistic and starts with one of the most infamous ... and goriest scenes in anime history. That alone was almost enough to turn me away, but I thought that surely there is something that would redeem this show later on...except there wasn't. Not a damn thing. The show is nothing but shocking scenes after another while trying to make the viewer feel bad for the characters so much so that it becomes just comical. That alone wouldn't be bad if the writing was good, but it's just godawful.

Next up is the characters, and I'm using the word "character" very loosely here because they are bland, idiotic and annoying. The dialogue throughout the show was just so bad that it hurt to watch. There was just nothing going for these characters. There were attempts to build some backstory for the characters, but even they were done so poorly that they completely fell flat in the end in my eyes.

Finally let's talk about the production quality. The voice acting was passable, but not good. The character designs were some of the laziest I have ever seen and didn't fit the surrounding setting and scenery at all. The soundtrack was pretty average excluding the opening song "Lilium", which was great. The art and animation were okay, but nothing to write home about.

In the end I regret watching Elfen Lied and I simply can't recommend it to anyone. Hope this helps someone who is thinking whether they should or should not watch this.
