Synopsis

Stubborn, spoiled, and naïve, 10-year-old Chihiro Ogino is less than pleased when she and her parents discover an abandoned amusement park on the way to their new house. Cautiously venturing inside, she realizes that there is more to this place than meets the eye, as strange things begin to happen once dusk falls. Ghostly apparitions and food that turns her parents into pigs are just the start—Chihiro has unwittingly crossed over into the spirit world. Now trapped, she must summon the courage to live and work amongst spirits, with the help of the enigmatic Haku and the cast of unique characters she meets along the way.

Vivid and intriguing, Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi tells the story of Chihiro's journey through an unfamiliar world as she strives to save her parents and return home.

I find myself at a loss for words when it comes to explaining why Spirited Away captured my heart so completely. There’s no grand analysis or intricate dissection... it’s simpler than that. For two hours, I was immersed in a world that felt distant, yet familiar, wrapped in wonder and mystery. Then, before I knew it, the film had ended. And though I can’t quite grasp what made it so special, all I know is that I was completely captivated. It was a dreamlike journey that left me with a quiet, childlike sense of awe that I haven't felt in years, lingering even after the ...

Mixed Feelings
I didn't really like this film, I wasn't "transported" by the story and what was being told. I admit that there are some very good ideas, but they didn't interest me. The animation is very good, the general atmosphere is well exploited, which is remarkable (in all Miyazaki's films, apparently), and the music and sound design are good, but despite this I couldn't get hooked on Spirited Away and its magical world. That's just my opinion, because if you put aside my appreciation of the film, it objectively/honestly deserves a 9/10 or even a 10/10 for those who loved it, but I personally didn't enjoy ...

I know the movie’s main target audience are the kids as Miyazaki himself states (10 year old girls according to him. Weirdly specific), but, that’s almost always the case with Miyazaki, so I was expecting something more well-written. The story is all over the place and doesn’t make a lot of sense. There are a lot of stereotypical tropes and I don’t think he gives them a new spin at all.

The world is vibrant and the usage of imagery against the backdrop of Japanese mythology and folklore is great, and the fluidity of the animation and the attention to detail is astounding; however, I don’t ...
