The official website of the NieR:Automata Ver1.1a television anime series announced on Saturday that the broadcast of episode 4 and onward will be postponed until further notice due to the impact of COVID-19 on the production. The series will rebroadcast the first 3 episodes starting January 29.

Ryouji Masuyama (Blend-S) is directing the anime series at A-1 Pictures. Masuyama is also in charge of the series composition alongside the video game's original creator Taro Yoko. Jun Nakai (Lord El-Melloi II Sei no Jikenbo) is serving as both the character designer and chief animation director. MONACA (Summertime Render) is composing the music.

The anime series adapts PlatinumGames' NieR:Automata action role-playing game, which was published by Square Enix on PlayStation 4 in Japan in February 2017, followed by North America and PAL countries in March of that year. The game was also released on PC in the same month and on Xbox One in June 2018. The game serves as a sequel to the 2010 video game NieR—a spin-off to the Drakengard game series.

It's been some months now and it's stuck at episode 8, there haven't been any updates since?
So far nope. Other long-delayed anime from Winter are finally coming back this Summer (Maou Gakuen S2 and Ayakashi Triangle are restarting from the start in July). I think Nier is the last one in the big Winter delay batch that's missing at this point.
I was curious, because this article said they stopped at episode 3.
On Crunchyroll, they have eight and after that episode, it stopped which lead me here.
I was just wondering myself because I haven't found anything myself on it and was wondering if it had actually gotten dropped by episode 8.
Thanks for the info.
Thanks for answering though

Ultimately, Nier is too high-profile to have anything keep it from being the best anime adaptation it can be. Delays certainly suck, but it's better than releasing a half-assed product with some potential fixes queued up to be included in a physical release later on. I hope it won't be delayed for too long.

This "COVID" has been used as an excuse for months now, tbh I'm not surprised with this, let's hope that they'll do their work in a close future

It's already deviated from the game, I'd consider it an original production now. Given the game has 26 Endings, consider this as the 27th route.

Well, it looks like we got the [C]ovid ending in this run, let's hope for better in the 2nd route later this month.

I only hope that they return with the new episode soon.

So many "cancel this show, it is not ideal" people as of late. First with Chainsawmen, now here. And I am seriously not sure if they are trolling or just not right in their head.
karen attitude has infected anime fandom.

Doesn't really bother me that it's postponed but hope everyone is ok

Welp, that serves its title "Ver1.1a". They failed the experimental. They should cancel the series already.

Darn, well this is a bummer.

I've heard that the animation was outsourced to China quite a bit, makes sense that Covid would have an impact. They should probably just keep this one postponed until they have the episodes all finished in advance honestly. Unfortunate that it's happened, but Aniplex should make sure that it doesn't happen again.

Unfortunate, but it’s better than a cancellation at least, so I’ll take it.

Conviniently, COVID only affects studios with some sort of internal drama. The pathogen is becoming sentient or something?

yep most studios are located in tokyo and they have constant contact with each other via outsourcing and sharing freelance animators so if its really covid it will spread to some other studios aswell

Man if Tom Cruise was in that production they'd all be fired. Damn slackers.
