Synopsis

Naota Nandaba is an ordinary sixth grader living in a city where nothing amazing ever seems to happen. After his brother Tasuku leaves town to play baseball in America, Naota takes it upon himself to look after everything Tasuku left behind—from his top bunk bed to his ex-girlfriend Mamimi Samejima, who hasn't stopped clinging to Naota since Tasuku left.

Little does Naota know, however, that his mundane existence is on the verge of being changed forever: enter Haruko Haruhara, a Vespa-riding, bass guitar-wielding, pink-haired psychopath whose first encounter with Naota leaves him with tire tracks on his back and a giant horn on his head. Though all he wants is some peace and quiet, when Haruko takes up residence at his parents' home, Naota finds himself dragged into the heart of the greatest battle for supremacy that Earth—and quite possibly the entire universe—has ever seen.

This is the best show Ive seen in my piece of shit life.
Didn't have any expectations going in, didn't watch it as a horny kid, didn't see it on Adult Swim in the early 2000's. Despite all of that, the breakneck pace shot past me so fast that I immediately watched it again just to understand what happened. This show is really a study of the central 3 cast. Despite many anime which focus on buff men, booby ladies, and mecha, フリクリ manages to subvert these tropes by having all 3 of them be flawed, realistic portrayals of maturity. Mamimi is the standout for me, ...

Mixed Feelings
The show is too cryptic for its own good. Because of this, FLCL attracts the pretentious crowd. You know, the type who sweat their balls off trying to associate any minute detail within the show with the profound things of life. It's supposed to be a coming-of-age story, and if that's the case, there are other shows within and outside the medium that do it better. Sonny Boy would be a better watch if you're going for something that depicts the conflict and confusion of adolescence. Hell, if you aren't allergic to reading, check out The Catcher in the Rye.

FLCL is also too fast-paced/quick ...

To describe this anime to any sane person would make it seem like you’re high on crack, acid, dmt and horse tranquilizers all at once . The plot is either non existent or so dumb it makes slapstick comedy look like Shakespeare. The writing team must have been the people behind the infinite monkey theory trying to write out a masterpiece. It makes no sense, the comedy doesn’t land, the writing is fluctuates between terrible and actively gives you an aneurism. I can’t complain about the art style the visuals are fine and unique. For it being a comedy anime and comedy being subjective I ...
