SynopsisKyousuke Kousaka, a normal seventeen-year-old high school student, hasn't gotten along with his younger sister, Kirino, in years. For longer than he can remember, Kirino has ignored his comings and goings and looked at him with spurning eyes. It seemed as if the relationship between Kyousuke and his sister, now fourteen, would continue this way forever.
One day, however, Kyousuke finds a DVD case of a magical girl anime entitled Hoshikuzu Witch Meruru (Stardust Witch Meruru), which had fallen into the entranceway of his house. To Kyousuke's surprise, inside the case is a hidden adult video game titled Imouto to Koishiyo! (Love with Little Sister!). Kyousuke attempts to fish out the culprit who dropped the case by bringing up the topic of magical girl anime at the family dinner table. All that comes out is a strong negative reaction from his parents, especially his anti-otaku policeman father.
That night, Kirino bursts into Kyousuke's room and, in perhaps the first conversation she has initiated with him in years, says they "have things to talk about." Kirino brings Kyousuke to her room and shows him an extensive collection of moe anime and lolicon bishoujo games she has been collecting in secret.

Characters & Voice Actors
'Ore no Imouto ga Konnani Kawaii Wake ga Nai' (Long titles for the win) is one of those animes I just can't figure out. On the surface it appears to be an anime about a brother and a sister who struggle to realise their feelings for each other. But in reality it is about much more than that. We have a good chunk of the story here focused on anime and the world of otakus as well as the friendships that one can gain simply by going outside and meeting new people.
That said, the plot's main purpose is to of course present us the life of siblings who, as is often the case, display aggression and hostility towards each other but in reality care deeply for one another.
The two main characters, Kyosuke and Kirino Kousaka are complete opposites when it comes to their personalities. Kyosuke is a kind and mostly peaceful person who enjoys 'ordinary and average things' - his words. He also happens to be quite possibly the unluckiest person on the planet, often blamed for things he didn't do and accidents he didn't cause. Add to that the fact that he'll do anything for his unappreciative sister and you've got the perfect recipe for a martyr-type character. Indeed the suffering this character will go through in this series is immense.
His sister, Kirino, is a spoiled brat with a serious attitude problem, completely cold and hostile towards her brother. She's a tsundere without the dere part. She behaves similarly to other people apart from her two closest friends. This character annoyed me to no end and at times I just wanted to drop the series simply because I couldn't listen to her constant complaining and her ways of screwing up her brother's reputation in the eyes of many many people. Ironically however, her tsun( no dere) behaviour perfectly fits in with the plot in this series and without that disgustingly hostile behaviour this anime would not be complete.
We have a few other supporting characters of course, the tall and mysterious Saori, the intelligent and menacing Kuroneko (real name Ruri Gokou) and perhaps the most relaxing character to grace the screens of anime watchers across the world - Manami.
Kuroneko is your typical gothic style anime watcher who mostly spends her days writing novels that even native Japanese-speakers wouldn't be able to read. Her vocabulary is vast and getting in an argument with her is always going to end bad for the challenger.
Saori is... tall. There's not much I can say about her apart from that because this series simply does not giver her enough time. From what we see we can make out that she's quite geeky and she simply enjoys spending time with her friends.
Manami is a hard working and kind person - mature beyond her years. Let me put it this way, if I was looking for a life long partner she's the person I would try to get to know better. No wonder then that Kyousuke prefers to spend every free minute he has with her. A lot of characters in this anime see them as a couple and Manami's grandfather is trying every trick in the book to push their relationship to the next level. Hilarious stuff.
The art is staggering. It's extremely precise and all the lines and curves are perfectly drawn. The characters look beautiful and attention has been paid to every single detail. Likewise the music is spot on and voice acting accurate and authentic.
The enjoyment part of this anime is... something I had to think hard about. On one hand if you're into the whole tsundere/martyr thing then go ahead you will enjoy this series, especially since it's very realistic. But if you get easily annoyed by one character complaining about trivial matters over and over and over again every single episode then you will definitely sit there unsatisfied and more than likely, agitated. But if you ignore that one character then this anime becomes a paradise since it also focuses on the daily struggles of otakus. That's what had me thinking the whole time, this is an anime about anime (ANIMESEPUSHION!) and also a lot of other things that go with it.
Personally, despite Kirino's horrendous personality, I enjoyed this series. It is what it is. Don't go into it expecting it to be a masterpiece and don't take it too seriously either and you'll have fun. read more
This anime was a pleasant surprise. It has an interesting take on the bro-sis relationship. The two siblings treat each other like most do in the real world, with dislike, indifference, hate and of course love. It has an intriguing plot to begin with and as the story unfolds it actually makes you care about the characters.
I found the characters refreshing and liked how they seemed to change as the story advanced. Most of them seemed to be more well thought out than your usual 2d run of the mill stooges. Having been limited to 15 episodes I thought they did well fleshing them out. Though a couple could use more depth and emotion.
The art work was pretty good and was what I kind of of expected in a anime of this type. The girls looked like girls and not some barbie dolls. I also like that they didn't revert to using childish miniatures. The people pretty much seemed like the age they were portraying.
Overall this is a funny, heartwarming, fun look at a brother and sister who are trying to figure out if they love or hate one another. Do yourself a favor and give it a watch. read more
These two are so similar that the OreImo cast made a 'from behind' cameo appearance, in episode 11 of Boku.
Kirino and Sena are the same character... breasts aside. Their spoiled princess attitudes, erotic game addiction, prideful arrogance getting in the way of friendship and fangs are NEARLY IDENTICAL. What's more, Kuroneko and Yozora ALSO MIRROR EACH OTHER--sharing 'bickering love' friendships with K&S respectively. They argue CONSTANTLY when together, oblivious to the how similar their personalities are. The only difference of note in the relationships between the shows is that Yozora clearly has the upper hand against Sena--often forcing her to run away, crying. THERE'S EVEN A GUY IN THE LOVE-TRI MIDDLE, IN BOTH SHOWS!
The episodic content is VERY familiar, also: making friends is central to Boku's story but even OreImo had an episode about trying to make friends. And both shows deal heavily with otaku/gaming jokes.
• Both have similar art styles
• Both have similar characters
• Both involve gaming, cute girls gaming.
The art is similar and both have many things is common.
The constant fighting between Yozora and Sena remind me a lot to Kirino and Kuroneko (and the personalities are also similar, as the fanaticism that Kirino and Sena have for the eroge).
In short, if you like "OreImo" you'll like "Boku wa Tomodachi..." as well.
Similar comedic formats (one male straight man, two females who argue constantly but are united in harassing the guy)
Also, similar themes about being true to yourself and learning to accept your own quirks.
Same animation style, both really funny and comical
sibling relationships, playing eroge
* 1 main male character
* 2 main female characters, one with dark and one bright colored hair
* they play video games
* the girls aren't very good friends at the beginning
Both involve girls who are obsessed with eroge and want friends. Also have similar characters.
Both animes are made by AIC Build. Also, in both animes, there is moe, a girl who likes ero-games, a girl who dresses in gotchic lolita dress no matter what weather, and a otaku girl who wears glasses.
Both are also seinen series, and have harem in them.
Similar comedy style and both series have a girl obsessed with eroge.
Both animes try to address certain problems in today's society. Oreimo deals with the problem of being an otaku while Haganai focuses on the issue of making friends. While neither are particularly educational, they both offer hilarious moments and sometimes emotional moments.
Very similar in art styles and in episode 11 of boku wa tomodachi ga sukunai there is an appearence of the characters from ore no imouto ga konnani kawaii wake ga nai.
-Similar character personalities
-Recurring eroge theme
There are some jokes/allusions to OreImo within the series.
I really like both animes.
In both you'll find a male main character that is surrounded by a lot of girls. One difference here is that Boku wa Tomodachi also includes younger girls that couldnt't be in a relationship with the main actor. Also there is no brother/sister love story, like you can see it in Ore no Imouto, especially later on in the story.
And still with have two girls with Sena and Yozora that seem quiet related to Kirino and Kureneko. Their relationship is the same and both want something from the main character. Also Rika fits Manami somehow..
So as you can see also from the other comments, both series got a different storyline but have many characters that are familiar.
Both the artwork and cast, especially the cast, are very similar. For example, Sena and Kobato are practically IDENTICAL to Kirino and Kuroneko and they end up in fights as well. In addition, both shows make references to other anime and have brother complex and eroge too so if you liked one, then be sure to check the other one out!
They both are comedy, obviously. They both have a male protagonist and a little sister to accompany them in some way. They both deal with solving a problem.
They have a similar feeling due to the video games and the awkward moments.
If you enjoyed Ore no Imouto Konnani Wake ga Nai and wish to find something similar to this anime, I suggest Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai. It is about the heroine and protagonist wanting to learn how to make friends so they create a club called "The Neighbors Club" which is about learning how to socialize to make friends and to make friends within the club. Quite similar to the conflict that the heroine in OreImo faces and both animes include that of otaku hobbies as well as have a character who's name is Sena. =)
(and they are both into games that feature homoge, eroge, galge, etc.)
Both the characters Sena and Kirino are full on otaku and force the main characters into playing the games that they like.
In both anime a 'perfect' girl hides her anime-otaku hobby and is discovered by the male protagonist (Nogizaka: classmate, OreImo: Brother) who will support her and start exploring the subculture.
Both feature girls with outwardly perfect lives who hide their otaku hobby from family and friends. Both of them eventually outwardly embrace their hobby.
Both have otaku female leads with male leads that try to protect their secret hobby. In Ore no Imouto, this is carried out by the brother while in Nogizaka, it is carried out by a "guy"
Both are about a girl that is living a secret otaku life
A popular school idol hides her otaku hobbies, which a normal boy finds out. They spend most of the show hiding this secret and doing various otaku activities. Haruka has a romance element that OreImo is lacking, but they're pretty similar shows.
both lead female protagonists are otakus who must keep their obsession a secret from their family
When you cross Seto no Hanayome (minus the mermaids of course) with Ore Imo, you get exactly Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu.
Both Oreimo and Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu have the idol-like female who wields good looks, talent, and many fans. However, they have a dirty little otaku secret that is discovered by the male lead. The male lead promises to not only keep their otaku side a secret, but to support them as well. Oreimo lacks the romance aspect Haruka no Himitsu has, however.
-Both involve girls who are popular but are secretly considered otakus.
-Both involve a love relationship, although one is sibling love while the other is more of a romantic "development".
Both series adapts the theme of a young girl who is into anime despite being cute, admirable, and popular at school. She tries to keep it a secret from others besides the main protagonist in the series who knows about her hobby.
Both series' protagonists has a strange relationship but does get along well on occasions.
Both series are lighthearted that has romance, comedy, drama, and similar themes.
They are largely similar in many ways, except Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu has a romantic theme while Ore no Imouto ga Konna ni Kawaii Wake ga Nai is not (or is it?), not much to say about this one, if you like one you should like the other.
• main character finds out that the heroine is an otaku.
• heroine's favorite animes look similar.(Chibi-like anime.)
• main characters go shopping in Akihabara
Similar situation of the whole otaku business. Both are funny however Nogizaka is more of a rom-com then just a comedy
The main girl is a "closet otaku", she need help of a boy for hidden her secret.
in oreimo, the main girl is "tsundere". In Nogizaka the main girl is "princess-dandere", both have a lots of Fan-service, but Nogizaka is more ecchi than fan-service.
Both female leads are trying to hide the fact that they are otaku's from the others and they end up being discovered by the main guy leads that are voiced by the same actor. Both female leads have more than enough money difference is one tsundere and the other one is shy and kind
These two anime's have a similar concept of the main heroine getting her secret revealed by the main character which is a guy. The main character then helps the main heroine to keep that secret so no one else will know. These two are very much alike but can be different in many ways. If you like Oreimo or even disliked it then this should be the anime for you it has less drama and it has a lot more romance in addition it seems that there are less major problems. Overall Nogizaka Haruka ni Himitsu is the anime for you if you enjoyed Oreimo or any other anime.
