Yeah, I see what you mean. But I think that when I look back at Brotherhood it becomes standard in retrospect. It kind of set a standard. I'm not too keen on the ending, to be honest, everything is too perfect and the final fight was Fairy Tail levels of cheesy, but I wouldn't go as far as to call Arakawa a hack. Maybe it's because I don't have the previous investment in and familiarity with '03.

I would never defend Brotherhood as much as some, but I am so beyond curious as to how someone could call its story "downright terrible".

It's been a while since they changed it. Like a few years. MAL put more weight onto newer reviews, versus that of just helpful votes, if I remember correctly. It's not the only reason I stopped writing them though. I'm not even sure if they reverted that change, not that it really matters.

You bet! It's one of those titles that definitely needs more love. You have some really nice titles in your list yourself, but you've also been spending a lot of time in the wrong ones, imo XP You should give Kemono no Souja Erin a try, just bare with the first 5 or 6 episodes, the story just gets wonderful after those initial ones.

Most of the times when I pick up the source material after the adaptation, I like to start from the start to see the differences. I can wholeheartedly recommend this option considering you already like the story.
In your case, I'd check around the middle, high thirties chapters and see if it's familiar or not. I watched the anime almost 10 years ago, I'm really not sure about it anymore :)

Aw, thanks! I want to rework parts a little sometime into the future, but generally, I think I am really satisfied with structure and layout. Next would be to learn some actual html programming to make it come together a bit better,
