If it is broadcast on TV, I can watch it while taking a break from the commercials, so I'm sure I'll be able to see what I missed and get it right the next time.
Oh, you were able to see it in theaters too! Good for you! Ghibli is relatively often released in theaters overseas, so I'm glad I was able to seize that opportunity for you.
Did you enjoy it?
If I had my way, I'd love to see Ghibli again with a new film that's fantasy like fantasy.
Sure) I love talking on this network))
Last week I was so mad about this anime, I would be glad to talk about it haha))
In my language when you read a chaotic book there is a saying "Not a book, but a set of words".
I felt this way about this anime. It felt like a set of random frames.
For me it felt repetitive, it felt like it had no meaning. Like it raised questions and quickly forgot about them.
The world-building is totally incoherent. What is the connection between birds-soldiers, pelicans, future human souls, doors leading in all kinds of ways, the geometric figures? Who are the figures that row the boats?
Why the heron feathers so precious that other birds can't attack you? Who is that heron dude inside?
If the uncle wants to make the boy an heir, why making so many complications? I get that boy's travels are supposed to be a hero's journey, yet it seems meaningless journey.
If the meteorite created a multi-universe, isn't that strange that only one family has access to this world?
Why the boy's mother is the only one who lives in that universe? Where are other family members?
The characters lack motivation or depth.
Yes, I understood that it's a story about boy grieving his Mom's death and adjusting to new life and new Mom. And I see no relations development between those two. I mean, he had more mother moments with that strong woman figure who killed the fish.
It is shown that his step-mother is unwilling to go home, and then she's suddenly like "okay, I changed my mind for no reason, let's head home)))))".
Why they show us that boy's father works on military facility? What's with that reference on Kaze Tachinu?
Not very long ago I've read an interview with Miyazaki-sensei, where he criticized modern anime. He said: "Modern anime is bad because it is made by otaku, who only reuses the tropes, don't add anything new since they have little life experience".
And what do I see? Anime that is self-cliche, self-repetition, self-plagiarism. That feels like it was created by ChatGPT.
There is a big difference between a studio having a signature style (like for Ghibli it is nature vs human topics, child protagonists' perspectives etc.), and when studio repeats itself but with different decoration.
(There was a moment in anime where they used absolutely exact frame as they did in Spirited Away and I literally laughed).
I have an unpleasant opinion. I think Miyazaki-sensei was really bored in his retirement era and wanted to get back to work.
Yet he made a half-ass anime. And since he's a huge authority, none of his stuff could criticize him.
And so we witness weak, lacking, repetitive piece of artwork :(
Apothecary Diaries are really entertaining so far! It feels a bit episodic with the plot cause it has new misteries evry ep, but chatacters have nice dinamic, kinda reminds me of Kaichou wa maid-sama with their banter. So it's far from boring! I would recommed :D
I hope it helps
As for the movie "Slam Dunk," I think the evaluation will be different if you watch it in a movie theater or on a computer, smartphone, or tablet device. In the Asian region, it is highly rated because it is seen in movie theaters, including the sound, etc. If you watch it on a computer or video streaming, I think the rating will be a little lower.
As for video streaming, I don't have the image of Studio Ghibli doing it, and I'm a little doubtful that they will.
Since the official pamphlet has not been released yet, I think that Studio Ghibli does not intend to release their films overseas for the time being.
I think it's okay to just look at the reviews as a reference. This movie seems to have a very different evaluation depending on the person.
