Synopsis

Tarou Sakamoto was considered the greatest hitman of all time. Feared by many, he stood at the top of the underground world until he met and fell in love with a woman. As a result, Sakamoto abandoned his life of crime and now works as a convenience store clerk.

Leaving his shady past behind proves more difficult than Sakamoto initially imagined. Many of his former rivals and partners do not believe that he has truly left the business and show up in hopes of taking him out. Barred from killing, Sakamoto must find creative ways to subdue his enemies and prevent them from bringing harm to his family, his store, and the small town he resides in.

Sakamoto Days has been simulpub digitally in English through MANGA Plus. The volumes have been published in English by VIZ Media under the Shonen Jump imprint since April 5, 2022. It has also been released in Italian by Panini Comics since May 19, 2022; and in Polish by Studio JG since October 21, 2022.

I'll go straight to the point:

"So there is this manga where the protagonist is John Wick, but Japanized as heck that lives his normal life until he meets again with his ex-pupil that happens to be an esper and read minds... READ MINDS BRUV! Then everything makes a 180* turn and now they fight criminals and mafia bosses that want to to erase the main character due he is too OP"

Sakamoto Days starts off as such a great series but sadly it falls back on the crutch of shonen trope after shonen trope until there’s almost nothing truly unique holding it up anymore.

The basic premise of a retired assassin who still has sharp skills living an everyday life is great and 30 years ago could have sustained the manga for years. In todays manga world though, the fear of serialization being suspended and fickle taste of manga readers is probably too big a threat for straight forward series like that to be sustainable.
