The official website of the Golden Kamuy television anime series announced on Tuesday that the fourth season will postpone the broadcast of episode 7 and onward until further notice due to death of an essential staff member on November 1. The home video release schedule will also be delayed.

The fourth season—directed by Shizutaka Sugahara (D-Frag) at Brain's Base—premiered on October 3. Crunchyroll is streaming the season with subtitles and an English dub.

Golden Kamuy adapts Satoru Noda's historical adventure manga, which began in Young Jump magazine from August 2014 and ended on April 28. Shueisha shipped the 31st and final volume on July 19. VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in October 2016 and will release the 28th volume on February 21.

I don't get it, should it not be completely ready before ep1 even aired to avoid such situations? At least for 1cours?
Some are, but you can probably count them with the fingers of a single hand, in seasons with dozens of shows airing. This doesn't mean the episodes are not close to being complete, but they call them an essential staff member so their output was definitely needed.

I received the news earlier this morning. I felt so sad about it. Rest in peace to the staff. And condolence to everyone.

So episodes are postponed until further notice. I'll miss Sugimoto-kun and Asirpa-chan.

This is what happens when you listen to the weabs about how the anime is made.

Some shows have their episodes made hours before the airing time.

I know absolutely nothing about anime production, hence why i'm asking. But the part about "hours before airing time" sounds frightening to me.

Sadly no. As @Swagernator already replied, some episodes made hours before they start airing. That is why there are troubles in such awful situations as happened with Golden Kamuy.

Damn, that sucks. Staff should take as much time as they need.

This is out of nowhere. A bit unfortunate we won't get more of golden kamuy for some time but good thing they're giving time to other members to recover from this loss.

Wellp, that's definitely sudden. Rip to the person for sure, but still a very sudden thing.

I hope it's not COVID as it endangers other people and is on the rise again if the media is to be believed. I perfectly understand their situation and I will be able to survive the postponement of the broadcast, the main thing is that no one else gets hurt and that this person receives due respect for him.
