A Niconico special livestream for the Honzuki no Gekokujou: Shisho ni Naru Tame ni wa Shudan wo Erandeiraremasen (Ascendance of a Bookworm) television anime announced a third season on Sunday.

Synopsis
Urano Motosu loves books and has an endless desire to read literature, no matter the subject. She almost fulfills her dream of becoming a librarian before her life is ended in an accident. As she draws her last breath, she wishes to be able to read more books in her next life.

As if fate was listening to her prayer, she wakes up reincarnated as Myne—a frail five-year-old girl living in a medieval era. What immediately comes to her mind is her passion. She tries to find something to read, only to become frustrated by the lack of books at her disposal.

Without the printing press, books have to be written and copied by hand, making them very expensive; as such, only a few nobles can afford them—but this won't stop Myne. She will prove that her will to read is unbreakable, and if there are no books around, she will make them herself! [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Honzuki no Gekokujou adapts Miya Kazuki's fantasy slice of life light novel series, which she penned on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website from September 2013 to March 2017. TO Books began publishing the novel featuring illustrations by You Shiina (Sakurada Reset) in January 2015. The 23rd volume shipped on June 10, with the 24th volume scheduled for release on September 10. Honzuki no Gekokujou has a cumulative 3.5 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Suzuka serialized a manga adaptation of the light novel's first part on the Comic Corona web magazine from October 2015 to July 2018. The second part began in the same magazine in September that year and has three volumes in print as of April 1. Ryou Namino launched the third part ahead of the second in April 2018. TO Books published the third volume on June 15.

The television anime produced by Ajia-Do aired in split cours in Fall 2019 and Spring 2020. A side story original video anime was bundled with the 22nd volume on March 10. Crunchyroll simulcast the show with subtitles and subsequently began streaming an English dub.

J-Novel Club licensed both the manga adaptation and light novel in English in November 2018 and March 2019 and released the fourth manga volume and seventh light novel volume digitally on May 13 and June 23, respectively. The fifth light novel volume was published in print on June 2.

WAIT, how the hell did I miss this?

Granted, it's the above-average Isekai, so waiting upon it is a good thing.

Really love the series, just recently read through all 677 chapters of the Web Novel, and this is probably the only series where i have pursued 4 different formats to some extent(Anime, Manga, Light Novel and Web Novel). But i was extremely disappointed by the second season of the anime. They seriously botched it up

i enjoyed both seasons and there is room for improvement. i just hope they don't fizzle. This story deserves to be done well, start to finish. :)

Did they intentionally put as many dates as possible into the article? How am I supposed to cross-read that?? All i'm intressted in is the release date for s3, goddamit!

wow, so 3rd season will not conclude the whole anime. well im enjoying watching it and still interested in the story. so they still somehow follow the story or faithful to the source material?! i hope they still continue the phase of the story and dont make haste and compressed story and finished it in season 3.

So far, the anime were following the novels pretty well.
There was one addition (the prologue of season 1, that doesn't appear in the novels until it really happens when Ferdinand check Myne's memories), and quite a few things were also cut from the adaptation in season 2 (chapters about Tuuli & Lutz, Johann, and the Italian restaurant mostly).

But there were no radical changes, like it is sadly often the case in novel adaptations

@Supercuecaaa @Zefyris Lmao so there's a lot of materials left. Oh well still a new season is always welcomed.

Season 1 adapted the first arc of the novels
Season 2 adapted only the first half of the second arc.
Season 3 will most likely adapt the second half of the second arc.
The complete story is 5 arcs long, and each arc is longer than the previous one, sometimes by a lot (4th arc is twice the 3rd one, for example).

So yeah, there is A LOT of materials left, and I seriously doubt we'll ever get to a 13th or 14th season that would be necessary to complete the whole story...

Though I really hope they won't end this after that 3rd season (novel readers should understand what I mean...)
