Samura began his manga author career with Mugen no Juunin in Monthly Afternoon in 1993, which concluded after a 19-year serialization in 2012. Kodansha later reprinted the manga in 15 omnibus volumes in 2016-2017 and six 5-in-1 electronic omnibuses in September 2018. The manga has sold a cumulative 7.5 million copies of its compiled volumes.
An official sequel manga titled Mugen no Juunin: Bakumatsu no Shou (Blade of the Immortal: Bakumatsu Arc), by novelist Renji Takigawa (Monument: Aruiwa Jibun Jishin no Kaibutsu) and novice manga artist Ryuu Suenobu, began its serialization in this year's July issue of the Afternoon magazine on May 25. Takigawa is writing the story in collaboration with Samura, featuring illustrations by Suenobu.
The sequel manga is set in the 19th century and follows the protagonist Manji, who was living a secluded life in the Tosa region, but heads to the capital after a visit from an imperial loyalist.

It seems you're mixing director and scriptwriter up because Gakkougurashi and Berserk had a good series composition.

Asuka i heard the manga was pretty meh to begin with
He's also the writer of the Asuka manga so it's not like that makes it any better.
Either way I'm interested in this just for Hamasaki, if nothing else it'll be cool to look at.
Well, that just proves that hes shit a creating a story, maybe not at adapting one.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Berserk (2016), Gakkougurashi!, Mahou Shoujo Tokushusen Asuka and Revisions doesn't seem like a good portfolio to me.
Welp, this thing is fucked.

Asuka and Berserk were good script-wiswe. The problem was with animation. Andf I personaly like Gakko Gurashi (story changes may be sometimes questionable, but they had to fit the first arc in 12 eps.). Cannot say anything abiout REvisions but I presume it was more influenced by director andd not a scriptwriter.

Gakkougurashi was actually good, Asuka i heard the manga was pretty meh to begin with and Revisions well ... its an original, maybe hes not good with originals.
Berserk tho, yeah, i can give you that one. But even that, he wasnt alone doing the series composition on Berserk.

I don't know about the others but Gakkougurashi's script was actually quite good. Just because something like Berserk is bad because of the CGI doesn't mean the series composition was necessarily terrible. (which is what he did. Not like he directed the show) He can have good series composition/scripting but if the director is bad it doesn't matter if he is good at that. And from what I can tell the director seems pretty solid.

Also, though Kenjirou Tsuda and Ayane Sakura are great voice actors, I would lie if I say that I will not miss Tomokazu Seki and Rina Satou, since I loved their performances in the old anime, but well, I fully expected the show to have a new cast, so it's no big deal. I'm happy they at least picked good replacements.

Anyway, thats a nice surprise to see it so soon and directed by Hamasaki. LIDENFILMS is a little bit worrying but there's worst studio out there.
Possible AOTS, depending how it goes.

(And then finish it off with some insect flying into frame because it ain't Hamasaki without the abstract shots of nature and/or animals.)
No dig intended, I love his style, and I think it'll be perfect for Mugen no Juunin. And given his background as a key-frame artist, I'm hoping those "death-mandalas" will be artsy as fuck.
What I'm uneasy about, is how extensive the CG will be. Will we just see structures (like the waterwheel in the trailer), or dismembered body parts (we had CG intestines flopping about in Shigurui). We will probably see CG blood-worms. That's fine by me. Just no CG people, please...
