Original TV Anime 'Release the Spyce' Announced

An official website and Twitter account has launched and announced an original TV anime titled Release the Spyce. Staff and cast members for the series have also been announced.

Synopsis
The series is about a girl named Momo who attends high school at the city of Sorasaki. However, she is secretly a member of Tsukikage, an intelligence agency that protects people. As a new member of the agency, she works alongside her colleagues including her senior Yuki and friends. Together, they work to establish peace in the city.

The novel of the original TV anime will be serialized in the Dengeki G's magazine. Subtitled Golden Genesis, it will start serialization in the April issue for release on February 28. The manga of the series will also be serialized in Dengeki G's Comics starting on March issue of the magazine to be released on January 30. Subtitled Naisho no Mission, the illustration is by Meia Mizuki.

Piripeppers (ピリペッパーズ) also formed. Consists of Yukari Anzai (CV: Momo Minamoto), Akari Fujita (CV: Fuu Sagami), Yuri Noguchi (CV: Goe Ishikawa). It has not revealed if they will perform theme songs, but they will promote the series and release of character song has been decided.

MC looks like your typical cute-genki-clumsy girl you often see in series... I have my doubts about her competency as an trainee agent of an intelligence agency. For matter fact, I have my doubts about that whole agency being able to protect people and establish peace in general.

Also, sorry, but I gotta say that title is just dumb. Release the Spyce? really? I mean, couldn’t they have come up with something better? Whenever I read it, the catchphrase Release the Kraken comes to mind. Maybe that was the intent...

All in all, I only hope this turns out to be a lighthearted full-on comedy show about a wannabe high-school girl trying to be a spy in a wannabe intelligence agency that is in charge of establishing peace in some city in middle of nowhere, and not the opposite. That’s all.

A Takahiro work with Yuru Yuri character designs, why not? This collab seems hella fun for better or worse.

My main gripe is with the director choice, since this would technically be his first work other than his assistant director role for B-Project. Actually on that note, this would also be his official main directorial debut and while I don't exactly know whether he is up to the task, I don't have any major reason to complain so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.

But anyways...cute character designs and spy setting reminds me a lot of Princess Principal though I wish it doesn't head down a similar path as that. There needs to be some more variety in shows these days.

Okay so Takahiro is making another series again. Hmm. And Yuru Yuri's character designer? Interesting in all fairness.

The only thing that ticked me off was the director initially until I've realized this is more of an assistant. Not the actual series director so, this will be... interesting to say the least.

I do not understand the point of creating the original anime with cute girls. It's not that I'm against all-female cast, just in my opinion, the original titles is an opportunity to do something unusual and interesting, like last year's Princes Princepal.
