Hello man.
I've finished today Silent Mobius and I can say that is definitely worth it.
Unfortunately it has some little problems (animation quality not always costant, some under-developed characters and a really big cliffhanger as ending) but it had some really good episodes and a very solid soundtrack.

Yeah, the biggest thing we miss in the global version (and also the current JP version) are the alternate routes for the story quests, some of them had really nice character interactions/character development that are now gone, such as an epilogue to Quna and Haddred's story, where Quna goes to the sanctum area and gets to meet with Ro'Kamiz.

EDIT: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dUeujUZpgeA
Video about the route that I mentioned above, which isn't available anymore.

Yeah, I played the game since the beginning.
The matterboard was a grid interface, with each chapter having its own layout.
Players would start at a specific point in the grid, and had to clear the nodes objectives until they reached the nodes that unlock the playable story quests.
The regular nodes included obtaining a specific drop from the listed enemy (guaranteed drop after a certain number of kills), talking to an NPC in the lobby, or going into a 4 player arks quest and interact with a tablet like object that triggers cutscenes.
The tablet like objects had blue, golden and white variations, the golden ones were the ones required by the matterboard node, the blue ones were random side-story NPC cutscenes, and the white ones were the same as blue, but scenes that the player already watched.

The most interesting part of the original version of the story were the story quests, originally most episode 1 and 2 story quests had time travel elements (unlike the current version where most time travel elements were removed), and players had to go through the unsuccessful route first before being able to do the successful route.
For example, one story quest that was set in the tundra area, the first route the player does a request for a student that wanted to find out more about the unusual differences in weather between the forest and tundra. After completing the quest, in the following matterboard nodes the player gets to hear rumors from other NPCs such as unusual appearances in other parts of the tundra area, and by the end of the matterboard the player unlocks the alternate route, the player goes back in time to repeat the request and goes through a different path based on the rumors they heard, and by the end they get to fight against Persona and find the broken weapon.

How is it going?

Thank you for letting me know! I had put it on my plan to watch because a friend got me interested in the games based on the gameplay alone but also has me intrigued by the story. I haven't played through the story myself yet but based on everything he's told me I also feel like I'd enjoy it in the games! He also told me that the first game was condensed down to like.... I dunno, three episodes or something crazy like that in the anime? Which sounds insane considering that these are all apparently massively long stories.

Either way, I definitely think I'll try the game's story out first! After finding out it was a visual novel type story I immediately had some regret adding it to my plan to watch considering my small experience with visual novel anime adaptations (The Danganronpa 1 anime left a very bad taste in my mouth haha, very glad I played the game first), but I'll definitely look into the games before giving the anime a look.
