An original anime titled Project D was announced by Kadokawa at its Anime Expo booth on Saturday. A promotional video revealed partial staff for the anime.

Staff
Director: Takuya Satou (Steins;Gate)
Character Design: Yoshitoshi Abe (Serial Experment Lain)

The original anime centers on technology developer Delida, who wakes up in the future from a cold sleep, but with his girlfriend missing. In order to keep his promise with her, he decides to return to "that incident" from 10 years ago. The key to regain her is a time leap.

This is going to be one of those that look promising in terms of drama then turn out to have way too much shoehorned action and/or shounen tropes, I bet. Going to give it a try in case I'm wrong.

another anime with a grown adult pining over a middle school love huh... oh well im used to it by now...

Saw one of serial expirements lains creators, Yoshitoshi ABe, credited so thats promising at least.. but if all he does is character design... then theres still a good chance it could end up cliche and lame...

i am always up for giving something a try tho if it doesnt look complete garbage so I will wait for it to come out before I make judgement on this one.

I'm hyped for this but PLEASE let this have a decent script writer

Claimed as an "original" but a name is chosen that would obviously trigger Initial D fans.

Eh...we'll see.

This both looks and sounds like a show that will be right up my alley, so I'm definitely very excited for this, even if as an original project it could so easily go off the rails.

Yooooo, my brother ABe working on a new anime? I'm in.

The concept of time travelling, makes everything immediatly look interesting.

wew a timeleap will save her. Hopefully Yoshitoshi has more to do with this anime than character design.

Ok but where's my boy Takumi and his AE86? I'm disappointed

Do you remember the series Your Lie in April by director Ishiguro Kyohei? He directed Occultic Nine in the same studio, A-1 Pictures, and the series was a mess in several respects. Watch out for Hype just because of the director.

Out of all yesterday’s announcements (and PVs), this is the only that caught my attention... I don’t really care much about the director as I do about Yoshitoshi Abe to be honest.

Hopefully Abe will be one doing the series composition and script as well, and not just the designs.

Shame Abe's designs aren't what they used to be.
I really like the older styles, these ones don't seem anywhere near as distinct.

Agree... while watching the PV, the designs never struck me as “unique” as his older works. They felt a bit typical; not bad, but not great either.
