I'm thinking of trying Tamako Love Story, but if I haven't watch Tamako Market, will it reduce my enjoyment cos misinformation? Should I watch Tamako Market first, or seeing Tamako Love Story directly is fine? Cos I heard Love Story is a sequel from Market...

If you like moe, watch Tamako Market. If you don't, just watch the movie.

Can't say I'm terribly surprised that the only work most people have heard of here is the Kyoani movie. Also nice of Japan to start to recognizing more animation than just its own and France's, and overall respectable enough picks.

amen brother

Yep.

Wow I haven't heard of any of these except for Tamako Love Story by Naoko Yamada which definitely deserves the recognition.

Was always interested in Giovanni no Shima even before it came out. Didn't realize subs are already out...will watch if I can get my hw done soon lol (which probably won't happen). Tamako Love Story. I've watched half of the movie in the last two week but haven't had much motivation to finish it. Mochizou is cute and the visuals are beautiful as usual, but that's about it so far. At least it's not completely aimless like the series.

Alright, it's time to watch Tamako.

Salute to the France guys who managed to cop a win.

Yeah! Japan did a sweep for manga though. And that's pretty expected. They have probably the biggest industry with international influence.
Nice to see more variety of countries in the animation section... saying that, how the heck did Ping Pong NOT get an award? (It's in the jury selection list...!)

I like the variety and obscurity (at least to foreigners, maybe), but I will question a few choices. :O

Well, congratulations anyways!

EDIT: Giovanni no Shima is a great watch. It's a post-WWII sentimental film, so it's a tearjerker, but also very heartwarming. After watching it, I'm glad it got an award. ^^
