Wow the sheer force of Gundam Unicorns release managed to pull the Char's Counterattack Blu-Ray (original movie was from 1989) back into the top 100 for anime today. That's the story immediately preceding Unicorn so it shows that Unicorn has helped generate quite the interest in the classic. There's a lot of different Gundam in the top 100 anime on Amazon right now, it's neat to see.

I don't understand these guys...

I know that musical tastes are extremely personal, and no one should impose their own preference over another, but how can one of the most beautiful songs in recent animes be completely ignored...

Am I really the only one missing the OST of Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii or even just the single of Ame Furashi no Uta (Beautiful Rain - AKA: Tender Rain)??

This song is just... beautiful!!! Specially the Orchestra Version that is a little shorter and even more soft to the soul...
Was it released as a single? I bought the OST myself as I couldn't find any singles. The OST includes the OP, ED, Tender Rain, and more! A great deal and a great cover picture of Nike!

The OST did rank but low... though it should have been there last week when it ranked #46 (edit, and it was). Come check out The News Club where we track music discs down to 200 singles and 300 albums! This week's number for the Soredemo Sekai OST:
136 *46 ***,579 *,**2,164 **2 Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushi Original Soundtrack (それでも世界は美しい オリジナル・サウンドトラック) by YAMASHITA Kousuke (山下康介)

Humm, popular idols, has incredible cross over appeal to females as well as to non-otakus, and it's a perfectly safe animation for the main stream market.

Little surprise that it does well, and it is little surprise that most of the people buying it do not show up here.

I think he means moe otaku pandering my creepy and unsettling avatared friend. Historically they've gone after the military and model/hobby otaku crowd but now have branched out into music and marketing moe girls with studio 8.

They have certainly branched out, but that is what's popular now. However, it's not really any different than pandering to military/gunpla otaku from yesteryear. Idol shows are popular and Sunrise has a very popular franchise to bring in a lot of money. It's just like what they did with the mecha genre back in the 80s.

I was just saying that to call one different from the other is kind of silly since they're targeting the same group of people, just from different eras.

yeah that seems fair.

Nothing interesting or good except for Sidonia.

Good to see it doing decently. Makes Season 2 far more possible.

Don't get too excited but the rumor mill is running on that front with some recent tweets from staffers of the anime hinting at the possibility of a split cour. Again nothing official yet, just behind the scenes social media chatter.

...but, i have to agree with love life selling this well being riduculous. seriously japan/japanese otakus, why are you all hyped over idols? personally i dont mind if it sells and someone buying it, but it doing waaaay better than other animes listed there makes me actually wonder who are the guys spending tons of money to buy this stuff? o_o

glad to see monogatari doing well though. (as expected...)
What would you say if I told you I have every Bluray of LoveLive! and the Bakemonogatari franchise? All the LoveLive! concert Blurays and all the Nisioisin novels? Need a picture of them all together before you'll believe it? Will your universe collapse into a singularity, causing an anime big bang? No? It is true. I love and buy both shows and their original 'material', the novels in one case and the CDs in the other.

Why can't you just let people enjoy what they enjoy? Why do you exepect everyone will only enjoy and buy what you like??? Come on, people... if everyone liked the same thing there would be just one show on. It would be perfect for everyone and it would be at the top of the sales chart every week. What an exciting world that would be...

If you want to buy it, buy it. If not, don't buy it but don't question someone else's decision to buy it. They liked it a lot. You didn't. So what? Different taste does not mean you have good taste and they have shit taste.

Nope you can't do it that way on MAL. It's like sports, you have to pick one show a season and one show for all time and champion those ahead of all others and just never give anything else a real chance to show you what it's made of or show any sort of appreciation for what they accomplish. If you want to be a proper MAL poster you need to develop that sense of tunnel vision. :p

Actually yeah this post is really reasonable and down to Earth, hopefully you don't just get shit on from every direction for talking some actual sense.

Way to keep just barely keep pace with old Sunrise series 2014 anime. I mean Knights of Sidonia Vol 1 which is expected to be one of the seasons top selling series just barely kept pace with the best selling re release of Love Live Phase 1. That's not a good sign.

oh well, what do you expect from an anime without cute girls in it. it wouldn't be able to be a big hit anyway, so i pre-ordered the 1st volume. just glad that it was able to sell 6k in the 1st week. hopefully another 2k next week.
i just hope that the anime won't have an original ending since if the sales are good, they might actually follow the manga faithfully and make a season 2.

Oh yeah for a show that is just straight up and doesn't have to work the moe angle or pander to otaku in any particular way it's doing remarkably well. It seems to have tapped at least a portion of that audience that shows up for works like Gundam Unicorn and Space Battleship Yamato. It is still out there and there's a demand for shows like Knights of Sidonia and it's a rare comfort in this industry that a lot of times feels it turns it's back on people that just want a good show with good characters, an interesting setting and sense of purpose to the plot with no frills.

well, normally i disagree with your opinion (mostly in the monogatari forum and no, let not start another flame war here)

but, i have to agree with love life selling this well being riduculous. seriously japan/japanese otakus, why are you all hyped over idols? personally i dont mind if it sells and someone buying it, but it doing waaaay better than other animes listed there makes me actually wonder who are the guys spending tons of money to buy this stuff? o_o

If it makes you feel any better Love Live has like virtually no profile outside of Japan still. Anyway I guess I shouldn't post the picture of some dude with a receipt showing he bought 50 copies of the first disc. Love Live as a series can only ever realistically do as well as it is in Japan with it's idol crazed otaku of all ages though that said the cell phone game does seem to be doing at least okay so far outside of Japan and I'm honestly stunned it was even released internationally.

Also I don't think I start flame wars, I just tend to have differing opinions, beliefs and values from your average otaku that tends to focus solely on hyped and heavily advertised shows and then people that disagree with them freak out on me and tell me what a monster I am instead of just saying that they disagree and why and I eventually start to get annoyed at the immaturity of it all. :/

Also if you're a huge Monogatari fan why not just take solace in the fact that it's still doing better than most shows ever will? It's still the top selling single Blu-Ray this week by far and prints just as much money as Love Live for it's producers so there you go.
