What a tease... But that attitude "no one has told me yet" is his downfall. He probably made enough money to live off the rest of his life from, but for god's sake UGH...
He is disingenuous. He understands that a series of Haruhi Suzumiya is very popular in Japan and in the world and it is a stable source of high income. He is a professional writer and Haruhi is his instrument.
According to an interview, he is working on a new book. I guess that it will be released in 2015 or 2016. Incidentally, the fact that he wrote two stories in May and September may indicate that his work is close to completion. But I'm afraid that his new novel will be boring and mediocre.

from what I've heard he's been planning the 12th novel since 2011, but he doesn't have many ideas so he has no idea what to do. we'll get more novels someday guys ;D and btw, he released the haruhi short story "random numbers" back in July, so he hasn't completely forgotten the series :3
Where have you heard that?
Also, if he actually is, I want to contact him to give him some of my ideals, damn!
hmmm you can just google random numbers haruhi and you should find the translation, and I read it in some haruhi forums, think he said that after he released novels 10 and 11.
I can you give me some hint of source please? I just searched. He supposedly has a twitter of 118 followers, but he has yet to post a single tweet up to this day.
He said about the continuation of franchise in interview of 2011:
Moderator: (laughs) Then I look forward to seeing the pinup of Yasumi and Sasaki from Itou-san. How about the illustration of the SOS Brigade in the next volume?
Editor 2: What would it mean….?
Tanigawa: The plot is done, but I've not been able to write it down yet. I'm in the middle of writing it and sending it away…. well, why don't I tell you what happens now orally?
Editor 2: Eh? Yes, please!
Tanigawa: Well, ●● happens.
Itou: Amazing.
Tanigawa: And then ●● occurs.
(The rest is classified information)
Tanigawa: And that's the general idea.
Editor 2: You're kidding…That's incredibly interesting!
Itou: I certainly hope this story doesn't get leaked~ (laughs)
Tanigawa: I submitted several plots to Dengeki, but I've neglected Sneaker a few times now. I think this is the second plot like that.
Editor 1: How could you neglect us when a plot like that hasn't been revealed yet Tanigawa-san?
Tanigawa: No one's told me to write it yet.
Itou: Well, it's turned out alright in the end, right? (laughs)
Tanigawa: I've only told the plot to this and Disappearance orally.

Maybe this is where i'd appreciate an original "anime" ending since the mangaka himself cant think of one!

Neither of these is remotely as important a reason as ¥¥¥. Kadokawa isn't greenlighting more main series Haruhi because Tanigawa isn't writing anything. He's done one release since... I think 2007.
The one release in "one release since" referred to that. That is, after the last novel in 2007 (shortly after the anime), only one more (well one double release) has come out.
Ahhh sorry I though you meant nothing's been released since 2007.

The Surprise of Haruhi Suzumiya was released in 2011.

I read the first 2 volumes of the manga some years back, and I have to say it's pretty bad. Bad enough to make me drop it. It's nothing like the original series. The writing style, the story-telling, the character personalities, everything is a complete 180 from the original. It has none of the wit, suspense or realism, that were some of the appealing points of the Haruhi franchise. The mangaka focuses more on cheesy romance and drama. And from the looks of it, Kyon never shifted to an alternate dimension. He was in this new world from the start.
romance? romance between yuki and kyon.....eeeeehhhhh i really dont like the idea of that, even thought i dont like her that much anything but kyon and haruhi feels weird

that's what he said, I don't think I'm allowed to post links to the translations on here, so you'd have to find them yourself unless you want me to PM you?

My least favorite char in the haruhi franchise...why would someone find an emotionless little girl "cute"? That's just bullshit
To each its own.

There was a 4 year delay between 9 and 10-11, so I'd say he's still at it. Last 3 novels were pretty long for a whole story, and maybe he wasn't used to write that much since most of the series are short stories.

It might be selfish, it might be fanboy of me. But if he is going to end it: End it with a Gurren-Lagann like arc in which Yuki is captured, Kyon saves her along with SOS brigade, and they end up loving each other <3
Also, the universe must implode
