Vampire Kisses - Blood Relatives, written by author Ellen Schreiber and art by Rem, the first winner of TOKYOPOP's popular Rising Stars of Manga competition with her entry Devil's Candy, is to be released around the end of September by TOKYOPOP.

The story is about a goth girl named Raven who lives in a small town and dates a vampire named Alexander. Suddenly they discover four freshly dug graves with empty coffins and at the same time a vampire gang led by Alexanders cousin Claude Sterling appear. What are they after and what is their connection with the graves?

So, they picked an already published author, and just had someone illustrate it? Well, I do love vampire stories, though it sounds a bit lame (and nothing can ever compare to the Twilight books =P) I'll take a look at it, since the art looks cool ^^

I love vampire stories! And the art of this manga looks beautifu and the story looks interesting so I'll be waiting for it!

Art looks pretty good compared to some of tokyopop's other English originating manga... and vampires! Vampires are uber win for me! Even though I haven't read manga for months, I'll probably end up buying this and having it sit on my shelves for a while.

Looks interesting, I'll have to take a look at it.

I own a couple of OLE manga. I have East Coast Rising by Becky Cloonan because I love her art style. I did get the first Rising Stars of Manga because Priscilla Hamby was the artist for the winner (I adore her art also). I also got Return to Labyrinth, but that was a trap, and I was disappointed.

I really love vampire stories. I like the artwork. I wonder if the story is really good, though. It's true what Crystal said about blurbs. It sounds rather boring with just that, but maybe there's more to the storyline. I'll have to grab a copy if I want to find out. ;)

Pricilla won the first one, but the writer was someone different, wasn't it? I vaguely remember it being a guy.

Well... it started in 2002 so... 5 years took a while. But the winners of the Rising Stars of manga thing get jobs and stuff (outside TP) from the publicity they get winning.

Seems that way at least. Dunno how long the contest has been going on though, anyone knows?

Well, yeah. I quite like the cover. I wonder what the rest of the art is like. And I won't comment on the story from a blurb since a lot of stories out there sound cliche with blurbs. And they are still good in the end.

Never read any of TP's OEL manga though. The cover art always turned me off I guess (and I rather fork over the money for other... stuff...)

I just recently heard about that art contest that TOKYOPOP holds in the UK magazine "NEO". It seems interesting but I guess the competition in it is really hard. Many good artists!

I agree, the art looks good but the storyline seems too cliché and stereotypical.

Well I guess the art looks good, especially considering the rest of Tokyopop's OEL lineup.
