Since some of the streaming services are being available where I live I consider to use one... The only thing that is bothering me is if the price for them is worth paying for the content you're getting...~ |

If you live in Asia (outside Middle East and India), then Crunchyroll is absolutely a no-go, Netflix and other streaming sites simulcast anime there instead. If you live outside Asia, and you want to watch only anime, then Crunchyroll is better than Netflix. |

i say if you have a disposable income and want to financially support the anime industry then subscribing to CR and other legal streaming sites is the cheapest way to do that but otherwise no since illegal pirated streaming sites still have more anime than any single legal streaming site |

MadanielFL said: If you live in India, then you will have the cheapest Crunchyroll premium subscription in the whole world. But the library would be very limited. So I'd just use a VPN to the USA, I think even those free ones work from what I've tested. This is false. You can't make a dumb dollars to Indian Rupees comparison without taking into account how much people earn in their country. It's also worth noting that CR doesn't technically allow VPNs, so they can take action if they find out. Whether they will is another story. The average salary in India is 13,912RS per month, while the Crunchyroll fan sub is 79RS That translates to an avefrage monthly salary of 169 usd and a monthly sub price of $.96. It cost about .57% of the salary per month to pay for a CR subscription in India for the vast majority of its citizens. Because 13,912RS is only an average, some earn significantly less than that. For comparison's sake, Americans earn an average of 4560 USD per month. CR is 8 USD a month. You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/. The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish. Show your support to your favorite artist if you can! ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name. For those who want to learn Japanese through anime Resources for learning the language |

I prefer owning stuff to streaming but Netflix's selection is big enough that it's worth the price imo even though lately it feels like the amount of good stuff leaving is larger than the amount of good stuff coming in. Still there are plenty of kinos to be found. |

Crunchyroll is ruining the Western anime industry single handedly. They heavily censor and use bizarre translations. Netflix has a tendency to remove content a lot so you have to rush through shows before they disappear. If you want to put money into the industry you're better off getting directly from the studios you like most since various ones do streaming these days and you can just screen mirror it to your tv if you want...or just buy official merchandise and blueray disk copies. BD sales are actually what are used to determine if a show gets another season. |

Depends I only use Netflix as it has available Polish subs and ocasionally Lektor/Dubbing depends on what you're watching and so far I don't have many complaints as I ocasionally watch Tv Shows, rarely Anime. For CR no idea as far as I know they offer only English language/Non-Polish so I am not interested for paying their services if they are not supporting my native language. |

And as for CR still getting a cut of Shield Hero merchandise; they were only on the committee for production, I doubt that they would receive much if any proceeds from merchandise sold exclusively in Japan. Even if CR did get a percentage of SH merchandise sales, buying SH merchandise shows that you want more content like it and encourages more seasons and/or similar anime to be made, while paying for a subscription is just throwing money blindly at CR, which would just encourage them to make more High Guardian Spice garbage. |

They invest money to fund the production of a show, and in return, they get to keep any profits the show makes. And in the case of merch, they license the IP for other companies to make merch of it. So for example, the committee will license the IP for GoodSmile Company to make a figure of the show. And so, to know if a merch is official or not, all you have to do is look for the committee's tag on the box. So in the case of this Shield Hero figure, I know Crunchyroll makes money off it because it's licensed by the committee (盾の勇者の製作委員会S2) which they were a part of. Also buying used defeats the purpose of supporting the industry, so idk why you are even suggesting that. And the team behind High Guardian Spice doesn't even work at Crunchyroll anymore. So this last statement just doesn't make any sense, because Cr has not produced a western animated show for years now. In the meantime they have co-produced actual anime like Blue Lock, COTE S2, In/Spectre, Tomo-chan, etc... |

Sadly no...the service itself is quite bad sometimes, with a plethora of bandwidth, video quality, and subtitle translation issues, which make the anime watching experience quite taxing. Is it the best way to watch anime legally...sure, but you'll spend $96 a year, just to end up constantly bitching and whining about all of the issues you will encounter in that time. But, IMHO...that money would be better spent getting a good VPN service (at about 1/4 of the price), and use several of the well known anime sites "on the high seas" that are out there...8 out of 10 times, those services have anime in much better video and audio quality, with more accurate translated subtitles (in many languages), and the episodes are available to watch at a much faster rate than most paid services, plus, you would have the advantage of having a VPN you could use for other purposes, including privacy and security online, and with other paid streaming services you may already have. If you want to support the anime in a legal fashion, then buy official merch, official DVD'S or Blu-ray's when they come out, or buy official copies of the manga or light novel the anime is based off of. |

I have the cheapest Crunchyroll premium subscription. I would say that if they have the series or simulcasts you want, go for it; if not, then don't bother. I really only still have my subscription because they have some series I like and I don't have much access to other streaming sites. They don't pick up stuff I'm actually interested in half the time anyways, so I'm thinking about maybe leaving the site. |

Also, you talk about how the high seas has "more accurate translated subtitles" yet those pirate sites use the exact SAME subs as legal streaming sites, cause they get the videos from them after all. Also, not sure where you got the "much better video and audio quality" from. Cause legal streaming always has 1080p with perfect audio quality all the time. Unlike some pirate sites where some shows will be fine, and then others the quality will be garbage. And I don't understand "the episodes are available to watch at a much faster rate than most paid services" either. Cause from looking release schedules, pirate sites wait until episodes come out on legal sites, so they can copy the video and post it on their sites. And from what I've seen, there's like a 20-30 minute delay between the release on legal streaming to pirate sites. |

OP was nuked but to anyone else reading this I guess, it's only as good as what you personally use it for. If it's a valuable service to you, then by all means pay for it. But if not, then don't. I don't personally pay for it because I don't use it enough to justify the price. |

Finally got a Crunchyroll account after years of pirating whatever I couldn't find on Netflix since the illegal streaming sites I used in high school are either gone or shadows of their former selves. It's cheap compared to Netflix, Disney Plus or anything like that so I'm definitely not gonna complain. |

I signed up for it once ages ago, but just didn't find it worth it. The video player was awful back then. Plus being in the UK means I get less anime anyway and I'm just paying crunchyroll for their weird projects. Also salty that they bought out Right Stuf or something so now they don't ship dvd's to the UK. |

I do subscribe to Crunchyroll. It provides decent value as the yearly subscription doesn't break the bank and you get a reasonable selection of good anime. Sure there is censorship and it doesn't host all the series I want but nothing is perfect. The stuff they do censor isn't normally enough to put me off so I live with it. I do think if people feel strongly about seeing uncensored versions then they should get the Blu-rays, at least once in a while. You should try not to watch all your anime on the back of van, if you get my drift. Anyways, for better or for worse, the streaming model is here to stay. |

So regarding what I wrote last night (and due to a lot of stuff last night), here's why my hate in my love-hate relationship with streaming has increased for the last few years (and I say this as someone who used to watch a lot of content on streaming since late 2000's when it was still niche and brand new back then):
So that's my beef with streaming nowadays. Yes, I've been streaming content since the early days of Youtube, and when Crunchyroll used to be free and had content I can watch back then before being bought out and change ownerships. It sadden me to see how streaming has become not only expensive (when it comes to paid subscription), but also convoluted and confusing (as in 1st and 3rd party exclusive original contents being remove from the platforms) and irritating to me (the ads on paid subscription). |
