This used to be a crazy scenario but with how the world has been going on for the past half decade I don't know anymore. It seems almost a possibility.

Korean people managed to get their hands on anime back in the 80s when japanese entertainment was illegal so I'm sure that now with everyone having an internet connection the ban is gonna be even less effective.

Well, unless the world decides to follow China's or North Korea's level of Internet censorship, we should be fine.

I doubt the day will come when all Anime is ever banned outside of Japan. With that said, there are trends going on even today in the world preventing certain Anime franchise to reach certain countries.

In 2020 Australia has already banned all adult Anime products which includes titles like "S.A.O.", "Goblin Slayer", and "No Game No Life", as well as dozens of other popular franchises. Reason for this was to stop illegal pornography in the country. Their government legislature also believes adult anime contributes to sexual deviancy without any real facts or data to justify it. I also read a few places it had something to do with stopping child abuse.

This is a trend that has been moving forward in other extremely conservative Nations where the availability of certain titles even now are dependent on where exactly you live.

Even recently in the United state, Republican law makers have tried a few times to sneak in nongermane amendments to appropriation bills that would basically ban any Anime that wasn't appropriate for teens in the United Sates. How and who would decide what anime would be appropriate or not would still be up for debate. Thankfully none of them ever made it to the floor even for a vote. But the more conservative nations are becoming around the world I can slowly see this trend happening more often since it's already happened in place like Australia.

"If anime becomes illegal outside of Japan"

Since anime is not that one thing but a million different things, this is practically impossible.

The vast amount of good anime have either difficult or no legal routes to view them, so nothing would really change beyond more time being spent on non-paid streaming sites.

Things that are more likely to happen:
- World War 3
- Robot uprising
- Bezos colonizing Mars
- America becoming Socialist
- Joe Rogan running for president
- Hollywood stops doing remakes and sequels

Seriously, it's a stupid question.
I probably regret this post by now.

I don't think they'd do that, considering the amount of profit they've gained from just the Western audiences. Even if people watch from illegal websites, they still earn from selling merch, especially anime figurines, which a lot of people collect nowadays.

You never know.

Ever hear of "Murphy's Law?"

It was brought up in Youjo Senki.

If anything can go wrong, it will.

Anyway.

If there's a will, there's always a way.

If I can I will, so yes....

Well, I can agree with 4 of these being a likely "probability".

The last one?

That would be impossible, I can't even "imagine" it, that it's so unlikely.

I live in Australia and this is incorrect, I can legally watch all of those Anime on the Australian Funimation app.

Including Eromanga senpai which was the trigger for that court case.

"Eromanga Sensei" might have passed with a MA15+ rating but none of the titles I have listed above have passed their ridiculous Classification board.

It will be interesting to see how long Australia will allow Funimation app to continue to air specific titles that have been banned by name in their country. Because technically what they are doing is not legal anymore.

You can't buy any "S.A.O.", "Goblin Slayer", or "No Game No Life" merch that has been imported into the country. They pulled all this merch off the market back in August 2020 within the entire country. This certainly includes DVDs and Blu Ray copies of these Anime Series. This is just the start, because over a dozen other franchises are not even bothering to export products out of Japan to Australia due to their new strict laws. Multiple more series will continue to be excluded from Australian audiences as time goes by.

What will be interesting to see is how they plan to skirt around airing Season 2 of "Goblin Slayer" this year to Australian audiences since this franchise has been outright banned by name in their country.

Well by illegal if you mean the piracy law start the death penalty or something then obviously it will become a very hot debate for the revolution but if illegal means certain anime getting banned due to controversy, in both cases i might watch it as these days i am reading more.
2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.
