Do you remember a moment in your anime "career" when you yourself were a young rookie with naive expectations and little knowledge of the industry? Can you share any of this?

For example, when have you sincerely believed the average show could get a second season, or thought that in the harem, someone other than the main girl had any chance? Or, for example, gave an enthusiastic 10 points to every second show you watched.

I used to think that every anime is great and enjoyable and it must be my fault for not enjoying certain anime, the word taste was not there in my dictionary.

Lol, have you also had a time where you felt guilty about not getting satisfaction from some of the popular shows?

Guilty of giving 10 to every second show. Used to think some really badly animated shows looked fantastic as well. What was I even thinking back then.

I thought that Samurai Girls would be with samurai girls but it was your usual harem&ecchi with some fights in between ending with our girls losing clothes (not that I complain now)

I used to think that drama and slice of life genres can be good but never 10/10. Only action adventure shows with mystery elements and deep lore can be 10/10. I never watched sol or dramas back then so I never knew what was good about them. I used to wonder how can a show be good without action or adventure.

I used to think that there were some great but obscure shows that few people had watched because everyone was so occupied with the more famous ones.

I still think that, but have since realized that it's more likely that people just don't have much interest in them rather than having not discovered them at all.

That I still feel for some of the anime, lol but at that time I used to feel more annoyed and angry rather than guilty.

This is the reason I hate overhype, it just makes you feel guilty if you don't like the show.

After watching Naruto, I thought it was the best anime ever and started watching other anime to find something that could at least give me something similar to it. Oh boy...

I particularly didnot interact with anyone in those days to form such concrete opinions. Plus my initial anime were well though and selectively choosen. So most of them still holds up in comparison to anime which I watched later on. I am pretty sure if those anime were not my entry point, I would never be compelled into digging in anime media

I ignored Anime that have chibi art style, or Anime that change their art style at occasions for "funny" moments, which was changed after watching FMAB tho.

Hmm. The first anime I've seen were bootlegs being sold by street side stalls in Taiwan. They were Castle in the Sky (Ghibli) and Unico. That was before I even knew that these were anime. Then I rediscovered anime thanks to Cartoon Network broadcasting things like Gundam Wing, Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, etc. I was actually Gundam Wing that prompted me to start looking into fansubbed anime online at the time. I remember one battle scene where Lt. Zechs grabbed onto the back of a Gundam, put the self detonation on, then jumped out with a parachute. That was the scene that was so mind blowing.

There was one show I found on fansub at the time called Kimi ga Nozomu Eien, where the main guy got into a car crash and lost all his memories. And he actually didn't get with the girl who was introduced as the main girl. But I think, after watching 5 or so of those it was easy to read in between the lines of when they're going to just follow conventionality.

strange, overhyped shows just make me question the loud fanbase. I usually come to the conclusion that they're just not experienced and don't know any better.
SnK fans: yyyooooooooo real life politics let's goooooo damn this is deep!!! omg politics in my anime!!
me: exposition, flashback, exposition, flashback, exposition, flashback...
if the author has to write workarounds, especially 80 episodes into the story, during the goddamn endgame, just to explain why every character suddenly behaves the opposite way that's kinda awful.
exactly one thing happened during these 8 episodes, which amounts to 20 minutes. the animation is ass too. I remember liking this show.

I had in my head that Dragon Ball Z and other "cartoons" (because I didn't knew the word "anime" yet) I watched on TV as a child were produced on my country because the dub was great.

It all depends on the fans and the personality of each person. I am a very socially dependent person, so I feel uncomfortable when they impose on me a thing that I do not like, but "likes the rest."

the only noticeable change that i can recall right now is that it's harder to give ten/ten because the anime follows a certain formula but it's still an enjoyable 9/10. also anime tends to get worst the more season they get which i now understand why they don't really want to make continuation.

After watching "Groove Adventure Rave" I did think a sequel would come, but in stead, after so many years. We got "Edenz Zero", which I ended up dropping.

Angel Beats, Mashiroiro Symphony: The Color of Lovers and Akaneiro ni Somaru Saka. I was sure that Nakamura Yuri, Katagiri Yuuhi and Sena Airi would be the ones the protagonists would choose, but I was completely wrong.

The notion of giving every second anime I watched a 10/10, never crossed my mind.

1.I thought that NGNL will get season 2 before I hit 20 years.
2.I used to give pretty generous score to most of the anime but now I feel score doesn’t matter so I don’t score anime nowadays but I kept score on all anime I scored in past
3.I believed that DanMachi was one of the best Isekai in existence
4.I thought I will never watch another hentai after my first one, this is pobably the point I was most naive about when I look back

You misunderstood the meaning of the thread. It's not about experiences that are literally the same as my examples. It is about those misconceptions that we all spread in the past due to lack of experience and knowledge.

What exactly to clarify? Have you ever heard of the various misconceptions that young anime fans have?

Dude, seriously, are you trolling me? There are already examples in the main post. Re-evaluating the show due to lack of experience, blind hope for plot twists that won't happen, stupid stereotypes, etc.

Now it seems strange, but at that time you were not the only one who did not even suspect that Oreimo would go into full incest.
