SoL Tier List
Anime Relations: Barakamon
After completing Anohana a few days which is the only popular SoL I haven't watched for a long time, I finally thought about making a Tier list for all SoL Anime I've watched so far (as per AL tags).
Note : There are a total of 79 Anime and I'm not judging the entire Anime for few entries cause some of them doesn't give SoL vibes, which is why Mob Psycho 100 as a B tier "SoL Anime", even though the overall Anime is an A Tier.
So, here's the whole list.
If you couldn't see the image, here's the verbal form.

Thoughts on Astra Lost in Space
Anime Relations: Kanata no Astra
I never knew that this is my 100th Anime. While this isn't great, I still have a soft spot for this Anime.
I remember how I found this tho. It's probably the time where I started to get interested in AmongUs and wanted to know if there's Anime with a similar concept. And this Anime is probably the closest to AmongUs as a concept, "The Imposter among a group of survivors in a spaceship lost in space". What I like about this series is, this concept and this felt entertaining due to the character chemistry. There are a total of 9 characters among this ship and there interactions are what carried this show, for the most part. It also had an interesting twist in it's penultimate episode that I really didn't expected, and completely got me off gaurd.
What I don't like about the series is, the characters themselves. It's kinda funny that whenever I like character chemistry, the characters always happens to so generic and uninteresting. All of these are just your usual Anime characters with your uninteresting tropes. And the plot after that plot twist felt so messy. I feel like they recapped the plot twice in last episodes which is very unusual and kinda boring. I really didn't cared what happened after that, though the ending is pretty sweet.
AmongUs Anime version, could've been so much better tho.

Thoughts on Death Parade
Anime Relations: Death Parade
I've heard about this Anime a lot. It's a MADHOUSE original, the Anime Man thinks it's a Masterpiece and after watching 2 YT videos related to this Anime (This and This, an AMV), I gave this a try. It's kinda unique.
What I like about the series are, the concept and drama. It's a really interesting concept that dwells into human nature through life & death games. Generally, these type of stories will be action packed but this Anime features this concept with Human drama. While most of the characters don't have much screen time or memorability, they tell a compelling story while fighting in a life or death situations with different games and rules. Really interesting way of storytelling. And the OPENING is just party vibes.
What I don't like about the series is, the overarching plot. While being episodic, this Anime tried to explore some recurring characters and the world of Quiendecim which really isn't satisfying. The Anime generally leaves every episode with an open ending but that open ending is generally left to the episodic stories. Doing the same thing with overarching plot didn't really felt satisfied and left more questions to be answered. And there'll probably be no S2, so it's quite the shame.
I liked that Death Note Reference tho.

Thoughts on ACCA : 13-Territory Inspection Dept.
Anime Relations: ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka, ACCA: 13-ku Kansatsu-ka Specials
Now, this is an interesting title. I've once seen this Anime in someone's favorite on MAL so I kept it in my PTW but gradually forgot. But just like how I found Dennou Coil, after roaming through Telegram Wallpapers, I wanted me to give this Anime a try. And this is one of the few underappreciated Anime.
What I like about the series are; the art style, Opening song and the slow build up. I look character designs made me really like these characters. Good or bad. Everything is so.....sexy. And the opening is a really catchy song with some sexy visuals. And the writing in this show is something worth mentioning. This is a political drama. Something that isn't my cup of coffee but I really liked it. The show mostly follows an episodic storytelling while slowly building up for a massive payoff. This buildup is everything for this show. It gets pretty tense at moments. Characters are some interesting bunch. They aren't well written but they have some charm to them, which I liked too.
What I don't like about the series is, the pay off. The Anime builds up for this one big moment but it didn't really worked? I don't know if that's how political stories work but the payoff is pretty anticlimactic. I just sat infront of the screen and thought, "Huh...? So that's it?" slow clap. Maybe buildup was pretty amazing I thought the payoff will sure blew my mind but it really didn't. I'm not saying it's bad or completely disappointing tho, it's just crossing that "average" line.
A Sexy political story, just didn't met expectations.

Thoughts on RedLine
Anime Relations: Redline
(This came out pretty faster than I thought)
Again, a movie and have a cult following for this. The movie which took nearly 8 years to complete, the Anime that destroyed the studio MADHOUSE and probably the biggest flop in Anime industry. But that has nothing to do with the fact that I enjoyed it.
What I like about the movie.... Are we seriously doing this? Imo, Redline is a peak point for hand drawn animation. A complete hand drawn movie boosted with particle effects about intergalactic car racing with some amazing OSTs (just listen to This!). It's a bombastic ride unlike anything I've seen in Anime.
What I don't like about the series is... Well, I really don't care. Yes, the plot & characters have personality but it doesn't have solid writing. It's the same old story of underdog, with same old melodrama but I really didn't cared about it that much when the movie is brimming with so much personality and style.
Just like Super EyePatch Wolf said in his video,
Spectacular Failures have far more value than Mediocre Successes
A Tier Anime
If you are wondering how exactly this Anime has something do with destroying MADHOUSE;
The Anime started it's production in early 2000 and was produced for 8 years. The budget is 30 Million but it only grossed 8.2 million. The movie came in 2008 and at this time, many of in-house staff in MADHOUSE are starting to leave. Satoshi Kon died around 2010(RIP), Mamoru Hossoda left & formed his own studio, Yuuasa left after Tatami Galaxy and among the 2 out of 3 main producers of MADHOUSE, one of em died and the other left to create MAPPA. So, with the loss of staff, producers and loss of money that came with Redline flop, MADHOUSE lost it's glory days. That's why there aren't as many success in 2010s as they had in 2000s. HxH and OPM S1 are the only Anime that had huge reception, remaining aren't as much. Though, they are still getting positive reception for their original Anime like Death Parade, Sonny Boy, A Place further than Universe and such.
