Anime|manga that you had high expectations because everyone hyped but then turned to be a dissapointment

| All your mentioned anime are shounen, you should move outside shonen fanbases lol. To me, I think no anime disappointed me in recent years more than Violet Evergarden, glorious art and animation from Kyoto Animation should be better than that. It's not the same with Ufotable and Demon Slayer because I never had much faith to battle shonen of WSJ in the first place. |

| Code geass would be one , someone suggested it after I asked for something with similar storytelling to FMAB , turns out it was filled with ridiculous amount of plotholes and easily the worst cast I had ever seen With Lelouch being the most favoured character and fans comparing him to light and L I was expecting him to be smart but all he ever did was do the obvious and play retard |

| For anime, it was either Gintama or Afro Samurai. In Gintama's case, I just didn't find it funny. I assume it 'gets better later' but I don't want to have to wait that long. And as for Afro Samurai, it was cool to see something so uniquely stylish, but I just didn't vibe with it as much as I thought I would. As for manga, there was one called Superior that I found through Pinterest because it had some absolutely beautiful cover art but the actual content is cheap comedy shounen stuff. There's still the occasional pretty looking panel, but most of it's nothing to write home about. I felt like I'd been catfished. Anyway, here's some of that beautiful cover art I mentioned; |

| Honestly, I found SAO War of Underworld season 2 pretty disappointing. The first season of it following Alicization was incredible, then I watched s2 and was underwhelmed. Other than that, GoH for sure. |

| JoJo part 3, I thought it would be the coolest thing ever because of stands, Dio, Jotaro, memes, but became boring very early. It's probably the most famous part... but it's only better than Stone Ocean. Jeez, Stone Ocean is disastrous. |

| 'Your Lie in April' was a colossal fucking disappointment. While the animation was gorgeous and the audio was top-notch, the story was underwhelming at best and the characters were just insufferable - I especially hated Kaori, and how her abusive & histrionic behavior was portrayed as something positive for the emotionally-vulnerable Kousei, who ends up being a letdown of a character himself. The fact that shit like this gets rated so highly further proves to me that most anime fans have no idea what constitutes a healthy relationship. There is good news, though: |

| Never have hype dictate what you watch/play/read etc...Ever. You can enjoy things much more if you go in with mid to low expectations. I'm not saying go into everything thinking it'll be complete ass. Just don't go in expecting it to be fucking anime Jesus or something. It's not worth risking your own entertainment by focusing on everyone else's hype/hate boner. I did that with Cowboy Bebop and Gintama. Most of the enjoyment I got from Bebop was from Faye's boobs and all I got from 50+ eps of Gintama were a few chuckles...Not to mention the time I sank into 270 eps of One Piece before dropping. |

| It happened to me recently with Tengen toppa. It wasn't bad, don't get me wrong, but I knew that was no. 1 anime here on MAL for some time so I thought that it would be one of my favourites since I loved Kill la Kill. Also re:zero s2, but that was because of the amount of reviews with 10s. Haven't enjoyed it sadly. |

| First that comes to mind is Re:Zero, i don't know about "high expectations", I kind of went into the show with a "I doubt I'll like this, but please prove me wrong" -attitude. I did not enjoy it. Another one is Classroom of the Elite, an overall well-received show I once got recommended on Reddit as "underrated" turned out to be a major pretentious cringefest... |

| Akira is a notable one because granted at the time I had enjoyed Ghost in the Shell, Lain, Legend of the Galactic Heroes, Bebop so I just assumed another sci fi classic would end up as another loved title. Yeah outside of the animation I really didn't enjoy it. Tonikaku Kawaii is a recent one granted I think I just assumed wrongly what the actual relationship dynamic would be. I went in hoping to be free of some of the boring romance anime tropes. I try to keep my expectations level for all media granted at times it can be hard to not allow people to influencing you somewhat. |
| I don't pay attention to hype but...S2 of Mob Psycho and season 3 of Oregairu were pretty big disappointments for me because I so enjoyed the previous installments. |

| Chuunibyou demo Koi ga Shitai. Heard a lot of people praised this show for the romance. I did enjoyed it but I was really disappointed romance-wise. The romance was just meh to me. Rikka was annoying for me, Yuuta was also meh, some of the chuunibyou stuff were annoying and it felt like Yuuta was babysitting her than actual romance that I would like. (I really like Satone and Nibutani though) |
