| This episode felt less well executed as the previous ones. I wonder if we'll get a glimpse at the sister's future. The first thing Hyakkimaru got to hear in his life is the falling rain and a woman crying over the dead body of her brother he just killed. It could have been happier. Well, that's a drama. |
| That poor girl, seeing a loved one leave for war and return someone completely different must be very hard. I guess that's what the cursed sworded did and Dororo almost fell victim of it as well. Hyakkimaru has regained his hearing, that's gonna be some nice interactions next episode I am betting! |

She was ashamed the downfall of her house when her brother was going to war. |

| Pretty good episode. Not the most original plot with the whole cursed sword thing, but it's cool to see that these demons can take any form. It makes me wonder what they'll run into next. The story felt a bit rushed, but it was still good. Not surprising with the kind of episodic format, but I don't mind. Some of my favorite anime is like that. I was honestly worried for Dororo when he was under the sword's control. I wasn't sure what the sword would make him do and I was a bit worried it would make him kill someone and Dororo would have to live with that. I'm glad Hyakkimaru saved him, although I wonder if he knew it was Dororo? He seemed to be deliberately attacking the sword, but I couldn't quite tell. Where was the old man in this one? Perhaps he was hanging out in wherever they were staying at the time? Hopefully they'll show what happened later if they parted ways in between episodes. Hyakkimaru can hear again! They hinted at that at the beginning of the episode. His hearing must be sensitive since he just got it, sad the first thing he hears is deafening rain and a woman crying. Hyakkimaru's had it rough. I find it interesting how he reacts to each new body part regained and how he will adapt to it. Part of me hopes he gets his voice back last, I enjoy how he communicates and shows emotion without speaking, but at the same time I'm anxious to hear him speak. I can't wait to see where this goes. It seems like the father is starting to figure out what's going on, and I think him and his other son may become the main antagonists. |

| Felt pretty bad for the sister in all of this, she waited so long to hear back from her brother only to find out that the kind man that left her ended up turning into a murderous psychopath :( |
| Not very impressed with this episode, honestly. The brother/sister situation made everything drag on more than it should have. I'm excited to see how Hyakki is going to handle hearing now. I assume he's still going to have no idea what anyone is saying since the only thing he was taught was how to write his name. |
| i really really love how they have hyakkimaru gain a new part of his body at the end of each episode - i really love how each appendage cringe that comes back is relative to the sense he regains. |

| Story of the Cursed Sword? We talking about Muramasa? Hyakkimaru can see that the sword is evil but not the person. Cool! Tiny gestures like Hyakkimaru touching the cut he just got on his face tell a lot after the previous episode. I do wonder though. How does Hyakkimaru fix the damage done to his artificial limbs? Nihiru is the name of the sword. I thought it was Muramasa... He dies with a smile. Hyakkimaru is not deaf anymore...but...the first sounds he had to hear was the rain dropping as a young lady was mourning over the death of her brother. Depressing... |

| That's wrong. First of all, Tekou can be seen in Muromachi period. She said their house was gone so it's obvious from the context. Poor female character selling her hair is an old trope. The original manga was named Dororo, and has him on the cover, I haven't got around to reading it yet so I don't spoil the anime. But presumably it is told through his perspective far more than here (This is Astro boy's author after all). I think this adaption is trying to lean the focus out from anyone character's perspective. They could have added changes to the title like the other adaptation, or they might be trying to distance this adaptation from the older one. I actually really love Dororo, Maybe I'm just a bit childish, but I love characters like him. They have lots of room to grow as a character and are kind, if very naive. |

| Still a solid episode, but there's not exactly much to say about it, other than it being clear that Hyakkimaru didn't try and kill Dororo because it was only the sword that contained the demon and so only the sword that needed killing. |

| Another great episode, this time the demon was a demoniac sword who needed a human to move, and satiate its thirst for blood, huh. It's so tragic, the way her brother fell to its control, losing himself like that to the point that he couldn't return with her. And it wasn't even at war, it was because of a "lord" who didn't think much of other people's lives. At least, after five years, he was finally freed from the sword's control, and now his sister won't have to wait anymore. But well, Hyakkimaru got his hearing back, and it's a really important sense! The sound direction in the scene was great, and now he can listen to the birds chirping, and well, a lot of other things. lol His "father" is also moving to find him now, of course he wouldn't risk losing what he got with the deal so he will try to kill his own son for sure. This keeps getting better and better. Now Hyakkimaru feels pain, and he can also hear, people might be able to have a bigger influence on him now, can't wait for more. |

They are similar to the wandering minstrels in middle-age europe. They are blind, wandering land to land, city to city, town to town all around Japan with the strings similar to lute called "biwa", and singing the epic poems in front of people in the market, in the castle and everywhere. Basically they are the wanderers. They travel without plans. Do you ask where he is? nobody knows, because he is the wandering minstrels. Perhaps, now he is creating the epic story about Hyakkimaru and Dororo, of course, it is something we are watching right now on TV. The "they" that I mean is Dororo and Hyakkimaru, in the latter part of Episode 3, Dororo, Hyakkimaru and the old man is chatting, and then Episode 4 came, Hyakkimaru and Dororo is already in the inn, so I got confuse where is the old man. |

| I think the brother was heavily reliant on the sword that it was inevitable for him to die. I'm glad he got his sense of hearing, at leat he will hear Dororo from now on. Really incredible series so far. |

| Better duration than the 1969 Sword episodes. But I missed Osuchi's bad reaction and the lust for power (and "coolness") of Dororo and subsequent possession (and blood-spilling): Hyakkimaru unable to talk, Dororo could have given himself a moral lesson. Also, it was a good occasion to change the forced supernatural interpretation (the 69 Nihiru tale was good for that, if not for its end) but instead, they worsen this aspect by making the man immediately mad and owning the Saber before his slaughter. The brother seemed very close to its original design. 3/5 Why are people bent on the idea that the man was feeling like killing his sister? ^^" @nanyatimz Unlike you, I wasn't expecting a very faithful adaptation, or even accurate in themes. It's always the same thing with "modern" adaptations of "legendary" authors: check anything "based on" Tezuka, Nagai/DynaPla or Matsumoto's works but made in the 90s, or 2000s (it was even more prevalent then). Plus, here they got access to a non-emblematic title of the author. In the same vein, I don't expect anything miraculous for the soon-to-be-released live-action cinema movie based on another Tezuka. Would you mind giving me the alterations of the 2019 Nihiru tale? |

| About the idea of blind biwa-houshi swordsman: In 1962, Daiei Film made Zatouichi, a novel-based film of a blind swordsman, featuring a new star, Shintaro Katsu. (This film made KatsuShin famous.) It's 5 years before Dororo.  After that movie, Zatouichi became popular and many sequels and manga adaptation were made. Zatouichi is now kinda sub-genre of Jidaigeki. Some people might remember that Takeshi Kitano did Zatouichi. One of the most famous manga inspired by Zatouichi is Shotaro Ishimori's "Sabu to Ichi Torimonohikae" in 1966. It's 1 year before Dororo. As you can see in the title, this manga features two protagonists. One of them is Ichi, a blind swordsman.  Ichi's profession is anma/massage. There was really a school of blind people's massage in Edo period. Tezuka's idea of biwa-houshi swordsman comes from Ichi. A manga critic pointed out that Tezuka also took some manga techniques of Sabu to Ichi into Dororo. Dororo takes place in Muromachi period so he changed massage to biwa-houshi. |
