I like how this flashback content gave a heavier meaning to Eren joining Scouts not just about for his own revenge purposed, but also he's father wanted him to. Eren joined the training, but Shadis messed up his gear although he failed, showing how determined is Eren to his quest.

Carla leaving a simple yet meaningful words to Shadis.

Damn just how cute the baby Eren is, compared to what happened to him now in the manga lol xD

Is it true that there will be a mid season break after ep 12? Or is it just a rumour? Read it on instagram-.-
So far it seems like after episode 12 there will be at least a three week break. Rumors are that it'll actually be a 3 month break and this season will be split-cour, but nothing has been confirmed yet :c

Thank you for your response. :)
I read that they will take a break until january. Mh...maybe after the next episode they will make an announcement if the rumours are true and how long the break will take.

If THAT was meant to be the "boring" part of this series I can only fucking imagine how good the next arc is going to be. Even though it slowed down a bit at the start, everything past episode 5 of this season has been utterly fantastic.

Exactly my thoughts as well, if that was the boring part then the rest must be out of this world.

I've watched several episodes twice because they were so capturing and great!:D
Wow...now I'm curious how the story will continue.

Mikasa's angry stares are always so funny xD

Nice to see how and why the instructor tempered with the equipments.

The mother's speech was quite moving.

To quote my initial reaction to this chapter in the manga:

"Sweet pacific rim job, even he has an interesting but tragic backstory".

Very good episode in a very good season 3, just hope there isn't a long wait between 49 and 50.

Very strong episode indeed.

Mikasa has that stare that could kill people :D

i liked how they showed who sabotaged erens gear in season 1 and more importantly for what reason.

Haha, I never recognize that Keith was the Scouts commander back then...he's become a completely different person...I got the point of this eps, why people always trying to be special? To be recognize by others? To get a compliment? I don't know, but in the reality that's what happen. Being normal is just not enough for many peoples and I think that sucks...and wow sooo many season 1 memories flowing back...And Eren's mom was really beautiful...

Another awesome episode, lot of feels! That backstory gave me slight goosebumps.

Oh Mikasa, you never change, do you? The way she gave Eren a death glare after he was having a fun conversation with Historia was pretty hilarious! XD

This episode was great, though. I was surprised that we got to visit Kevin Sadies again after so long and his past involvement with Eren's father, Grisha, was also a surprise.

All in all, I really enjoyed viewing his past with Grisha and how we also get to see what Eren's mother used to do before she married Grisha. It was also shown that Kevin deliberately sabotaged Eren's equipment that failed on him back in season 1, but it didn't stop Eren from trying to use the dodgy equipment though.

Maybe because of his resignation from the scouts and the death of Eren's mother...

but he still had them after all that

It can be many factors. He still had hair on his head when Wall Maria was breached and Shiganshima was ruined, so I think it's a factor with intense stress and maybe family genes being involved with Kevin losing his hair within that 5 year gap.

Alright, now that the boring part is over, time for the best part of Attack on Titan, Shiganshina arc! Being a manga reader,I said this is easily the best arc of Attack on Titan.
The uprising Arc was not boring. It was fantastic and answered so many questions including where Titans come from, what happened to Grisha Jaeger, insight into Levi's life and his real name, why has the human government done nothing about the titans etc. It answered so much on top of having meaningful character development that will define characters like Eren from that point on. Only someone mindless and cares only about action would think it was boring.

However, I will agree that next arc is the best action wise and highlights why I love Armin so FN much. I read these threads on here and other anime boards just to see how anime only viewers react. I haven't loved a manga story like this since Fullmetal Alchemist.

I am not sure if i missed something, but the memory part of Eren seeing Shadis from his father's memory was really abrupt and rushed. Read the manga long time ago, don't know much they changed or rearranged.
But after they went to question Shadis, everything was greatly adapted.

i think he was jealous and he tried to fail Eren, because he didn't want him to be special

It might be both. I love this episode handles the ambiguity and ambivalence of human emotion.
For example when Shadis give a "speech" to Eren's mom about people being too dumb to understand great ambition, he was also resenting her for not choosing him. The "speech" was simultaneously about his idealism, his male ego, his resentment, his jealousy, his inferiority complex and his self-doubt (Eren's dad saved lives whereas he only caused death -- it was growing hard for him to believe in what he said about his great ambition with full confidence.)

This is one of the best episodes of SnK so far.

People who keep shit on SnK for being a superficial action show should really reconsider their opinion after an episode so explicitly deal with the complexity of human life. (It's not that it's the first time SnK went so deep, it's just that it often happened in between high-profile action scenes.)

Never judge a show as superficial just because it has a large fan base amongst 12-18 yo. If the fandom is what's causing your inability to appreciate good things, avoid it.

BTW, those who are saying that this is a boring episode are exactly the reason why some people are saying SnK is superficial. I can't say there's no truth to the claim that SnK is consumed in a very superficial way by blood-thirsty teenagers who care nothing about human inner life or philosophy. Though SnK itself is clearly much more than blood spilling.

The show has been so caught up in moving the story forward that it forgot to actually create any special moments. This one reminded me of why I enjoyed the first season.

I don't understand how no one seem to notice the extremely poor animation quality compared to previous seasons. It's really noticeable. The animation is so stiff that it hurts my eyes.. Everything feels so flat and simple. Sure, a few closeups are great, but that's it. The overall quality is extremely unstable. Even the characters look different. It really sucks that the animation director of season 1 and 2 had to pass this season, because at least to me, it feels like I'm watching another series now.

I feel like you might be one of the few people who take THAT much issue with the show. I've not noticed a single bit of what you said, if anything I think this season has had some absolutely fantastic animation and art, with the first 2 episodes having some of the best animation in the entire show (that fucking Levi chase-scene cut UNF). There's issues here and there but compared to the lack of consistency during the TV broadcast of season 1, season 3's surprisingly consistent in its quality.

Edit: On a second evaluation, I think what might be standing out to you is the lack of boldened outlines for the characters. It's a big change from the first 2 seasons but I don't think it actually lowers the art quality at all. The character's expressiveness and emotiveness still comes across perfectly with the art, with key mention given to episode 6, 7 and 10 in particular. 9 also served in my opinion as one of the greatest horrifying episodes of anime in general because of how fantastically they handled HOT ROD.

I really love how the things connect piece by piece in this anime, like, they remember you the scene when Eren was having a hard time in the training, then they reveal that was Shadis sabotating it, then they reveal the reason and all the story behind it, that's just amazing (I love it when Oda does that with One Piece too)

I wish i could see more of some casual conversations like that one with Historia and Eren (Mikasa is such a pain in the ass, omg), also Baby Eren it's SO DAMN CUTE

That's exactly the problem. Most of you don't notice it because a few scenes are done really well and stand out, like the Levi chase scene, for example. So I feel like you just turn a blind eye to the rest. It's like a rollercoaster, but with more bads than goods.

You're right about the boldened outlines. It was an art that made Shingeki stand out and it was a really positive addition to most people. To just remove that suddenly is a really weird and bad decision, if you ask me. It definitely affects the animation quality in Shingeki, but it's so much more than that. The overall animation quality this season (think about every single scene, not just the few action scenes that actually were made good) is very weak compared to S1 and S2. Trust me, if you rewatched all the seasons now, you would definitely notice the difference. There are so many things I could point out. The problem began in S2 but became even worse this season. The season that had the most stable animation quality throughout the whole season was none other than season 1!

Great episode.

Hahaha, that Mikasa stare when Eren was walking with Historia. XD

Pretty heavy backstory episode. We learnt a little about Grisha, Eren's father and it looks like he's from outside the wall, very similar to Reiner and co but he doesn't seem to remember anything else. Apart from that one fact, most of the other information seems to relate to Shadis himself and how Grisha influenced his life.

Wonder how I never realized till today that Eren's Mom was actually really pretty. XD
Loved her reply to Shadis, "He's already special, because he was born into this world". Beautiful. :)

Nice throwback to the scene where Eren's equipment during training was broken. So it was actually Shadis? Interesting.
Loved the outro with the ED song playing in the background.

Looking forward to next week, time to retake the wall?

I guess we can presume it was Shadis "protecting" Eren, really nice development at tnis episode anyway.

Mikasa's stare gave me shivers down my spine, I remembered about someone telling me that she is kind of an yandere LOL

Great episode, I liked everything and I remember many of those scenes from the manga especially the part where Grisha met Carla and how he and Sadies met. Felt sorry for Sadies because he obviously loved Carla and I would dare to say that he loved her more than Grisha did. Grisha just told Eren to avenge his mother and proceeds to turn him into a titan shifter while Sadies fell to his knees when he heard about Carla's death.

Also, even Jean noticed that Eren was spending more time with Historia, hint hint. He said, "If you spent less time holding Historia's hand..." LOL

Don't confuse animation with artstyle, the artstyle changed because the Team that did those glorious facial designs in S02 is doing the Kabaneri movie!! And no ma nigga, just like others said it S01 had a lot of problems, the reason u think that was good its cuz u watched the Blu ray versions of both seasons, go search it for yourself to see the diferences between the tv version and Blu ray!! The same will happen with this season, whatever "issues" you have will be cleared in the Blu ray

What are you on about? I watched S1 and S2 while they aired as well and I even know about all the improvements on the bluray version. Yeah, they changed a lot when it came to the ARTWORK, I'm talking about the ANIMATION quality here. Do you even know the difference? S3 has been a total disaster when it comes to the animation. Levi scene was excellent, but most other parts has been shit. I'm complaining because I see a huge difference. Is that hard to understand? S2 had noticeable downgrades as well, but S3 takes the cake by far.

So what if it only was a single cour long? I hope you know the reason why they even made it into a single cour? Because they were low on staff. Do some research before you comment.

I know that there are other people working on that this season. Which is a shame, because it's really noticeable.
Ehm? And what makes you think I watched the bluray version? Because I think that S1 has better overall animation quality? I have been following AoT weekly ever since the first episode got released. I haven't even watched the bluray version yet. Each to their own, but I personally see a huge degradation.

Definitely not, production was a mess during its TV run that even Asano had to make a tweet to get more animators involved.

That's your opinion. I won't change mine just because you say otherwise. I'm not saying S1 was perfect either, but at least they didn't spam shitty cgi and made characters look dull and rigid.

"Coincidence", "suddenly"? Go watch back season 1 episode 3, right at the end Shadis said "Grisha your son has become a soldier"

What does that mean to you? It means Shadis knew Grisha back then, we just didn't know in what way, we now got that answer in this episode, its called foreshadowing writing 101.

Just like how Hannes said he has a debt to repay Grisha when he went to save Erwn mom from the smilling titan, if I remember correctly I think they even mention that he cure a plague that was going around back in the past in episode 1.

We also saw that in this episode. Yes it sounds unbelivable that the author planned all this out, but yes he did, there is no coincidence in this story everything carefully planned.

And there is nothing special about Eren, his father stole a power and gave it to him, simple as that. His mother literally said he doesn't have to be the best in anything, his mother said that he is special because he was born in this world, if that is the reason why you said he is super special, then everyone in the series is special because they were all born in this world.

Shadis failing to stop Eren from joining the scouts is just him being a bystander that can't change anything, it does not mean Eren is special because of that.

i think he was jealous and he tried to fail Eren, because he didn't want him to be special

You described my thoughts very well, which I couldn't put it on words by myself.

It got me thinking, do you think the series is still suitable to be rated shounen(13+)?
Well, it has always been placed at the Adult section at the bookstores in my country. :)
I just realized that all of my favorite characters, beside being stunningly beautiful, also happen to be exceptionally skilled murder machines. \('-')/

I think it's OK to be 13+. It's just that younger viewers could learn to appreciate SnK in a deeper level.

The show continue after Historia's coronation and some of her responsabilities. The garrison improved a weapon against the titan along with Eren and the scout receives some other soldiers after the whole military system has been desintegrated. Eren remembers Keith Sadies in his memories (founder titan) and look for him for an explanation. Keith found Grisha with no memories out of the walls time ago and brought him inside, he became his friend and Grisha married Carla (Eren's morther), Keith became scout commander but after some failures he decided to quit. The tragic event happened and Carla died, Grisha decided to give Eren some habilities that no one have (it looks like Keith know the context) and Grisha dies. Now is up to Eren to discover the truth behind the titans, as Keith can see how much the actual soldiers are getting stronger and smarter.

Very interesting and a strong point of view that Keith has, there is still a lot in which Grisha was involved and we still don't know. There's gonna be a lot of movement in the military forces. Again, great character development.
