Do You Think That the Statement 'Straight Girls Dislike Yuri, Straight Guys Dislike Yaoi' Is Accurate?

don't mind all the times I use "I'm"

I'm using my phone and it's a pain to use MAL on it, so if there's a thread similar then I'll delete this one if anyone mentions it.

I'm a straight girl, and I love my BL anime/manga but I'm not fond of yuri? It may be because I'm not attracted to girls, but something about FxF annoys me. I know it's close-minded, but there are people in the world who can relate to this. I'm not saying that I believe it's a fact, I just want to see what others think.

If you're a straight male, what do you think of yaoi? Do you enjoy stories like that, or does it not matter? Vice-versa with female.

Actually studies and surveys have found that the sexual orientation of males are more fixed than females. In other words, males are more likely to identify as straight/gay/bi and stick with it, even finding the idea of any other kind of disgusting. Females on the other hand tend to be more flexible in that regard, and are more likely to open up to same-sex even if they identify as straight.

Straight guys find yaoi gross. That's the general consensus, yes. As for girls, I can't speak for them, but it does seem like the answer is no, not really? Individuals of course differ in opinions, but this seems to be true generally.

People are afraid of everything regarding sexuality. It's not like what you read define what you're, and it shouldn't be a problem to read/watch "gay romance" being straight.

Also, if you feel disgusted by that idea, bad news, you're an homophobe.

--

@SillySlySy No need to prove me anything, that's something that belongs only to you. Also, you don't have to go after graphic works, No. 6 and Shinsekai Yori just happen to have gay romance between main characters but it's not about that at all (and if it bothers you, something is pretty wrong).

@Swagernator If you say so

tbh a lot of yuri and yaoi anime (not all of them) are garbage, filled with cliches and stereotypes. And straight people are less interested in in anime with same-sex couples, so this statement may be true for many people.

While it is true that straight guys tend not to like yaoi (although somewhere around half of fudanshi identify as straight, not sure if they're reporting truthfully), Comic Yuri Hime, the biggest yuri anime, has a readership of 70% female and there's no way every single of of them is a lesbian. As romance lesbians are considered to be more pure and people like reading about them even if they are straight females. Around 30% of females identify as bisexual, though, which is much higher than the 8% of males who do.

My thoughts as well. As a straight man, I don't really have any issue with Yaoi but the concept by itself does nothing for me. It'll have to be weaved into a solid narrative for me to give it a look.

What do I think of Yaoi being a straight guy, I'm fine with it. I read/watch some Yaoi here and there because I'm romance fan and if romance is interesting I don't care if Yaoi.

And yes. Straight guys tend to dislike yaoi.

I'm straight female.

As an entertainment value:
- I absolutely love boys romance and constantly looking for it (shounen-ai)
- I naturally love boys erotica too when I find one (yaoi)
- I like normal/hetero romance and erotica story too
- I'm not interested in female romance nor erotica (shojo-ai/yuri)
- But I can appreciate and like them if it appeared on my anime (Yumikuri)

I mean I personally have never been into yaoi but I don't think it's hard to understand that some guys that read or watch yaoi related media aren't gay.

Especially the people who say those who like it just don't realize that they are. Its fine to make assumptions but the actual logic makes no sense.

I like yaoi and I'm straight. And as a girl I don't like yuri but if in an anime that is not classified as yuri has a fxf relationship it's okay. Also I have a male straight friend and he had watched some shounen ai anime, at least he didn't find gross, I don't now about yaoi though.

I'm straight as a spear, and I still enjoyed Doukyuusei. I don't really seek out yaoi stuff. But, as in the case of Doukyuusei, I find that I'm not averse to tastefully handled not-quite-sexual stories (the blond guy still has a non-existent concept of personal space and the teacher felt pretty rapey) as long as it's somehow decent. And oh my god, the visuals. A-1 outdid their own Grimgar with it.

So I say exceptions occur. But if you mean really sexual stories, then no, not even yuri can make me rock hard and yaoi will insta give me a d-rection. Found that out when I was watching a cuckold porn vid. Don't blame me, the girl was pretty smoking hot. And then the guy went on all fours and serviced the other guy and I was out faster than a Max Bloodthirst Bloodcyka with five low enemy heroes on the map.

No, I would say plenty of straight girls enjoy yuri or don't have problem with yuri romance. It's also well-know that most Yuri mangakas and like half of Yuri fans are female, unless they are all lesbian/bi, which I doubt.

Female homosexuality is less stigmatized than male homosexuality, so more straight girls don't feel bad for appreciating romance between two women, because why should we? There are two people in love, I'm not sure why I should feel disgust just because I'm not attracted to women.

I think a lot of straight guys won't watch Yaoi because of the #nohomo culture we live in.

Women in general tend to be a little more sexually fluid/willing to experiment because female affection is a lot more encouraged/acceptable.

I do know a lot of straight women who watch lesbian porn/read lesbian erotica *shrugs*

I'm a lesbian, and I love yuri (more manga than anime) as it's nice to see a love story I can relate too, but I'll happily watch a love story with any genders. It's all the same to me. A cute romance is a cute romance no matter who is falling in love.

What you read/watch literally means nothing. Human sexuality is full of a lot of quirks, and what you fantasise about doesn't have that much to do with reality a lot of the time.

Watch what you want. It's not 'gay' to like yuri/yaoi. Watching a fuck ton of hetero romances over the years certainly hasn't made me any straighter.

I'm Bi and interested in both, even though I haven't seen an overwhelming amount of either. I've seen some shitty yaoi when I was younger that aren't in my list. Pretty sure one of them was Boku no Sexual Harassment cause I remember a corn scene.

If I got back into it, I'd look for more healthy romance stuff and not so much the hentai cause I'd rather have a developed relationship whether or not it leads to sex.

I'm bi and I like both, but I've read/prefer more m/m couples than f/f couples. Which is weird since I prefer girls irl. (maybe it's because I watch more shounen/male-dominated cast anime) Doesn't mean I don't love my f/f ships though.

Though I hate actual yaoi, the stereotypes, seme/uke and the "this is wrong, we're both boys" thing is gross to me. I much prefer shounen-ai. Same with yuri/shoujo-ai (though yuri does seem to have less stereotypes and is treated more 'normally' in it's material).

I can enjoy Yuri , even Yaoi but not too much , it depends on the story , if the story is good enough , I don't really care too much about those stuffs , I mean , if Haikyuu had romance , I'm pretty sure it would be yaoi and I'd still like it , I can understand those who don't like yaoi/yuri though , it's a very divisive genre and not for all the people .

Like a real gay love story such as Yuri on Ice I enjoy since it has more to it than just everyone being as gay and sexual as possible... Pretty much it has to be more realistic, not falling into the category for me to watch it...

Well, at least most of them are teenagers or just young adults (from my experience) and will become more temperate, because they start to overthink the generalizations they make. ^^"
I mean, I kinda understand what drives them. There are many people, who are plain and simple homophobes or at least, they freak out, when they see a homosexual pair in fictional media.
So, as insecure teenagers, some want to mirror that behavior and refuse to have empathy for everyone, especially fictional (that's easier), who is from "that side", because they make them feel that they were left alone and unwanted sometimes.
Still, it was a big wtf is going on-moment, when I heard that. XD but yeah, I mean, it's just more uncommon, but it's the same as the opposite, which seems to be normal for many? ^^"
