 During the FLCL 2 & 3 panel at this year's Anime Expo on Sunday, it was announced that the previously announced sequel of the OVA will be a two-part theatrical film spanning for six episodes length each. Additional staff members for both parts were also announced and a teaser video has been revealed, featuring the pillows' new song "spiky seeds." The anime will screen in Japanese theaters in 2018 and will be shown as two six-episode TV series in the U.S.The original creator of the series, Kazuya Tsurumaki, will supervise both projects; Katsuyuki Motohiro will be the chief director; Hideto Iwai will pen the anime; Kiyotaka Oshiyama is in charge of the mechanical design; and the pillows will perform the theme songs for the sequels. | LUUUUUUUUUUUUUNCH TIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIME! Actually looking pretty good so far. As someone who considers FLCL to be the greatest anime of all time, I was wary about it getting a sequel. But this gives me confidence. Plus the pillows are sounding really good. |

| Trailers do not inspire confidence. Still think this was absolutely not needed but am curious to see what they do with this. Motohiro being involved with his usual ways does not bode well either. |

| A different charadesigner for each movie? ... (what about not calling back Sadamoto?) Any info on the "true" format? Is this thought as two movies and the cuts are an afterthought or is it conceived as series? |
| I'm glad the creator and the pillows are back, but that trailer was really underwhelming imo. The animation looked nice, but I don't like the new character designs at all, they look really out of place to me. I'll probably still watch it though, just not gonna keep my hopes up for anything too promising. |

| Wow, it makes me feel for all the people who are gonna experience that torture in cinema. The trailer looks kinda interesting though, but FLCL is still FLCL... I'd like it if they go into a more serious path. Interesting to note that both movies have different staff, I wonder if the difference in style would be noticable enough. |
