Its funny how you can sometimes guess what the synopsis will be from title length alone. Except that 90% of the posts in this thread prove that this claim you make is completely wrong. I see people looking at this as if this was some edgy, super serious action series. If the anime is anything like its WN counter-part, then "action" is pretty much limited to a "secondary sub-plot" status. i think it isn't much different .. if it like u said, it just SAO + Toriko xD everyone have different taste man :) The big difference here though is that Death March seems kind of "self-aware". SAO had a "Gary Stu" MC, but the story gave the impression that some kind of "tension" still exists and that Kirito could possibly still fail, only to result in this tension to turn out to be extremely fake. Death March doesn't even try to pretend. It's made blatantly obvious early on that MC will most likely never have any difficulties in battle with very, very few exceptions later on. It's also made evident that the battles themselves will not be very important. The MC actually keeps a low-profile instead (but he will NOT let himself - or his campanions - get trampled on). And there is not really a "central plot". Most of the time. It's really slice-of-life. I was not joking when I said that. There is also a massive amount of world-building. The world building is actually bad news in a way, because Web Novels turned Light Novels with high amount of world-building that get an anime adaption usually don't turn out well, unless you get the SAO or LH treatment. Trapped in fantasy world be a slice of life? Did the MC have no reason to go back to his world like MC on overlord? And its all about cuisine / food hunter? I haven't watch Toriko cuz its not make any sense for me .. but if its an 'adventure slice of life' plot at there, it will be completely unoriginal .. (HIGHLIGHT THIS, This is only my opinion for first impressed on Synopsis and some spoilers from u, but sometime can be changed later if i have saw the PVs or First Episode xD although i know to don't judge book by its cover) SAO Design + setting mixed with Toriko Plot and putted some slice-of-life seasoning like Kino's Journey, its definitely not my taste .. okayi'm sorry bro xD as i say before, everyone have their own taste.. ;) |

I have never read or watched Toriko. But Death March is not really a "cooking series", but instead more like... the main character is simply putting tasty food on a higher priority than "defeating the evil local demon lord", i.e. "I have to hurry and finish this trifle matter of beating demon lords so I can make it back in time for the BBQ party". I just cannot put it into words. But the Death March world is quite complex actually with a lot of lore and side stories from the perspectives of either the MC's companions or even from the perspectives of less important side-characters. It's definitly its own world and not a "copy" of anything. The only problem is that this complexity wouldn't work very well for a 12-13 episodes anime, so I really hope we get at least 24-26 episodes instead. |

Isekai genre has a lot of gems. But also quite a few flops. It's a rather diverse genre. Much better than the "Ecchi pseudo-harem in Japan with beta MC" or "Ecchi pseudo-harem magic highschool" genres. |

The MC is a standard Isekai protagonist: Ridiculously OPed, has a harem and can solve any issue no matter what etc. He's pretty bland if ask me, but if that your thing then go for it. You will be get a lot more of that than unusual Isekai stuff like Re:Zero and and Konosuba. |

HalAnime said: Seems like the future of anime will be 50% Harem Ecchi LN adaptations and 50% Fantasy/Game LN adaptations *sigh That would be quite the turnaround given that less than 7% of all TV anime this year were light novel adaptations at all, and that literally the only upcoming light novel adaptation given the "harem" and "ecchi" genres on MAL is the second season of SaeKano, which itself will only be accurate if the second anime plays up the ecchi as much as the first one did. Oh and DanMachi and Gate don't belong in that list at the start (the latter is not "trapped" as all characters can return at any time and the former isn't anything of the sort*). Even Outbreak Company only sort of counts (it's possible to return but the MC is prevented from doing so). Oh, and you forgot Mondaiji-tachi from the list. *noticed after posting that this had already been pointed out. |

Good, another harem Manga/LN i'm reading is getting a anime. Haha, and the shallow comparisons already started. The real question is what studio is producing this and how much of the story they will adapt (standard 12 episode?), the light novel got 10 volumes at the moment. Also, i if remember correctly, a lot of lolis in this. Off topic. I wouldn't mind seeing Shiro no Koukoku Monogatari getting a anime. |

SAO was essentially VRMMORPG-Death-Game. This isn't. It's more like LH, i.e. "transported to another world fantasy with game elements" with lots of world-building and lore, but without the tension. But it's designed not to have tension, so it doesn't give you illusions about the content. |

Hey don't judge Desumachi Or else you'll be cursed to be with flat lolis forever~! Desumachi ain't nothin like SAO, it's much better in fact. I have already read the entire Desumachi(WN) sometimes chapters get long sometimes gets short, but still a good read! It's a slice of life and of course....harem. N-No wait don't click away! It's not the typical harem crap we see nowadays, well a little bit, but still worth your time i promise. Also one of the girls also appears to have a Yandere syndrome :3 though probably they'll skip a lot of details in the anime adaptation, tbh they already skipped a lot in the manga adaptation..... If you like reading, go read the LN or WN, the LN is a bit different anyways, a bit. Desumachi also has a deep plot or so i think, there's just a lot of mystery around it. Go ahead and read in advance or wait for the anime, because if the anime is released, school go f*ck yourself, desumachi comes first! That's all i suppose... |

wtf with ppl nowadays, DeathMarch = SAO = Re:Zero ??? DeathMarch is a place with overpowered characters like gods, unkillable demon lords, summoned hero, and overpowered reincarnators live. moreover the grand plot starts at the prologue it's slice of life while the action and world-saving acts as a sub-plot. he got transfered and got stuck in that world? bruhh he can even teleport back to earth to buy some ramen cups, even though it's slice of life the novel itself have a great mystery regarding the mc identity, its starts with his wife from previous life thats way too mysterious, his former wife is a goddess who fell for a human boy--- skip--- and they're married but the human have a short lifespan so in order to make his husband immortal the goddess sacrifices countless souls in order to create an OP body. even though the action is a sub-plot there's an arc that action acts as the main plot for example in the arc 15 when the reincarnated humans declares a war agains gods, this arc way too awesome reincarnators vs gods, and divine power vs science this is a whole new originality, empire full of reincarnated ppl which story has it? well the synopsis plainly bad and i understand why ppl misjudge it. but pls dont compare satou with any other characters because in front of him they all looks plain and worthless... Ainz-sama ? bruhh that inflexible skeleton, and i wonder how Kirito can be compared with Satou ? even Pochi can beat his ass splendidly. about the harem, he never touches them because the girls are around 12-18, he's an adult not some horny pedophile so if he want to release it out he just need to pay prostitutes, his way of thinking so relateable and his action never full of holes. about the game like elements? it's his ability to make the world easier for him, and it's not like a usual transported into different world where the mc transported out of luck, everything has its reason. |
