What I am not putting on my list:
All the DB/DBZ movies and other anime movies with infinityfold amounts of movies. I've watched them all. But I'm not putting them on my list because it creates many unnecessary entries and ruins it.
It is also possible I might have watched some OVA or unaired episode from many different series but didn't put it on my list for the same kind of reason as above.
To be honest, I find MAL's listing to be rather flawed with different pages for different variant of the same thing. They should create a type of listing for each type. TV, OVA, Movie, unaired episode or Web episode and the likes. In case of manga or light novel, it doesn't have such a different amount of different media types so it's fine.
Anyway... about genres I can't stand it pretty much goes like this:
* Mecha
* Space
* Sport
* Music
* Historical
There are of course exceptions or classics but otherwise you'll probably never see those in my list. Otherwise...I can watch pretty much anything even casually.
In my favourites, I generally don't put things highly acclaimed that I see in every-fucking-one's favourites like, say, Fate/Zero or NGE or Serial Experiment Lain because I believe it's a waste to do as the herd. There's no point in putting everyone's favourites in yours even if it is.
About my tastes, I like things that go psychological, dark or epic.
I like the use of imagery, leitmotive, litterary devices such as analogy, metaphor and allegory and such "artistic" language. Might be why I like the Monogatari series so much as it plays around with this. I absolutely love the use of symbolism. Symbolism is pretty good.
I like dark, hopeless stuff where the heroes struggle all they can to reach their good ending. Having them suffer so much for their good ending is a good way to not give freebie-good-endings. And when you reach a good ending after such epic, hopeless situations, you can feel how rewarding it is. I however, stand in complete opposition to anything that fatalistically end up badly with no means of reaching a good ending. Ah, but it depends on the context though. Some things like Devilman are among the "It's-fine-I-guess" type.
Don't misunderstand. I can love edgy stuff. I also can love fluffy cute things. The point is, the story of the Anime/Manga/Light Novel/Visual Novel and whatnot has to stand for itself and be able to stand on its own feet.
Demography can be pretty much anything. But I'll prefer more mature stories. Seinen and even Josei are fine, really. Even a few exceptional shoujo, but it really depends on what it is and what it's trying to do. As long as it's good, that is. I can also like more mature or dark type of shounen, but it has to be good. Otherwise, I tend to avoid shounen altogether, especially if it's the "I'll become the x" cliché mostly from nekketsu or "shounen fight manga number ikse-trillion".
I like stuff that delves into human psyche, ideas and points of view. Don't think I'm some politically-driven audience guy because I am not. I however believe that what you create and give birth to is in part a reflection of you and you need to act in accordance with this. Even the most objective work of fiction will still be under the influence of its creator subjectivity, personality, beliefs, desires, messages and ego/self.
For the longest time in history, humanity has kept using fiction to try and pass messages along. From myths that were twisted to become more fantasy and simple stories invented in order to make a point like including a certain morality. Of course, it doesn't mean you have to do this specifically, and you don't necessarily have to make a point. A fictive story is after all, a fiction at its core. Always taking things from oneself limits the potential and makes us not necessarily a good writer. However, it is still something that you weave.
But a story that is meaningless in and of itself doesn't need to exist in the first place. If there is nothing more to the story than the story itself then it is pointless. I see it as such: even characterization and character developement is meant to be this way. If it doesn't happen in a work of fiction then it's meaningless.
Developement is the act of perfecting one character and for them to advance in their life and story. It is the very core idea of making a point at its core because they fight against their flaws in order to evolve. Developement is a desire for fulfillment in which you see a character evolve throughout the story. The impact it leaves on the viewers can be diverse but it is, in the end, the author making a point and passing a message along.
And all works of art should be able to do those things as a means of communication. It seems industry has forgotten about it and is losing itself in freefall-abyss. In the same manner that today game consoles and games in general tend to concentrate more on power capabilities and other artificial eye powder and puffery instead of enjoyability, gameplay or lore, everything is starting to become an "advanced" clone of one big "Nothing". Trying to look awesome to impress people or shareholders but in reality they are empty and lifeless, with no personality whatsoever. Only anime #x of the season. What a plague...
Anime is doing these things. It's lacking in personality and identity. It's lacking in art. It's lacking in lore. It's lacking in depth.
Also, I ignore the people and trolls who use the word "edgy" like they're firing an infinite-ammo minigun and each bullet is the word "edgy" "edge" "I can probably cut myself with this" and other such dumbassery. These persons tend to ignore (on purpose or not) the very core of a story and anything it is trying to do. In the worst case scenario, they'll be blind to it alltogether but still come up with the word edge like it's the newest fad.
And believe me, audiovisual fads of gangbanging something is very common, especially when said work of fiction is currently popular. They all hop on the hate train and spill their poisonous snake venom, while making sure of diverting people and making them hate something for apparently no reason. Yes, I know who you are, influencers.
Aaaaaaaanyway. It should do with my about me page. I've actually never ever writen so much about myself.
Despite what it looks like, I am actually a nice person so don't hesitate to come and talk if you want to.

ngl I was kinda forcing myself into liking the series at first during bake but ended up becoming a big monogatari fan shortly after finishing bake and kizu. I've been hooked ever since.
