Why do people always have to complain about fanservice? I don't se whats wrong with a lot of panty shots and big boobs (unless you find them disgusting/ugly for some odd reason). If you think a show lacks other things such as a good plot / seriousness, then complain about those things instead -.- Your thoughts? |

I have yet to see a good anime full of fan service. If it's used in moderation, that's fine, but that's rarely the case. I generally consider fan service an attempt to compensate for a bad plot. |

Fanservice, which is not to be confused with characters which are promiscuous in canon, dispels dramatic tension and threatens suspension of disbelief by introducing superfluous details which are plot-breaking and character-breaking; it exists not to improve the story, but to take time away from the story to pander to the small segment of fans who find immature sexual innuendos stimulating. |

Because it can ruin the show sometimes. The artists focus too much on what the fans want and not what the artists them selves want. I recently heard about the fairy tail chapter where it was a lot of bs and girls in bikinis. I remember watching that high school of the dead special. I was like, dude, If I want to watch softcore porn, I'll go on pornhub or something. |

In terms of a serious story or series, pretty much this. Wanna know the best fanservice? A masterfully crafted plot, rich world building, and incredible characters + development. Not to say I have a problem with fanservice (sex appeal type) when used in moderation, but if used too much or in a series where it's out of context, it's pretty much saying "Hey look how desperate we are, trying too hard for DVD/BD sales." |

Too much of a good thing becomes a bad thing. Or something like that. |
Deconstruction ≠ Darker & Edgier Trope ≠ Cliché (Face it, nothing is completely original. Can't make something from nothing so to say.). Fanservice ≠ Ecchi (Though ecchi can please the fans!) Popular ≠ Sucks... maybe Seinen = K-ON! Shounen, Shoujo, Seinen and Josei are demographics. Anime/Manga = Japanese Cartoons! Deal with it. Support Movember. Raise awareness of men's health issues. Put a mustache on your avatars or something... |

I don't mind fan service, some people complain that it shows unrealistic themes and exploits women or men. THIS IS ANIME , NOT REAL LIFE! People ARE pretty much perfect in anime and manga thats why we are so envious or lusty for them. AS AC CONCLUSION, ILY FAN SERVICE! |

I have no problem with blatant fanservice in case of ecchi shows, coz they are made for people wanting to see boobs and panty flashes. But , in shows where there is actually a good plot to boot, unnecessary fanservice hinders the potential of the show, like in Highschool of the dead.. |

It's already been said a few times, but like anything it depends on if it's needlessly excessive and - more importantly - if it's out of place. For example, I loved Gargantia, but there's an episode that has a maybe 4 minute long scene of very focused on fanservice of the three young girl characters dressed in almost nothing doing an extremely slutty dance for the men of the ship (with random zoomed in shots of certain places on their body thrown in as well). The whole context of the situation (mostly drunken middle aged and old men were watching girls in their early teens near-naked doing rather erotic belly dancing and lewd posing) bothered me - and the whole scene in general felt extremely out of place and unwarranted. It didn't ruin my overall enjoyment of the show, but it did have a genuinely negative impact of my full experience, especially in that episode. Not to mention it made me worry about how young girls are treated on the ship and lead to a whole line of things I really didn't want to consider. The point is, it was extremely out of place and just felt thrown in. That is a case of bad fanservice being shoved in out of nowhere into places it really doesn't belong. The same can be said about anything else. If "it"'s out of place, shoved in and unfitting, or excessive in a series not entirely dedicated to whatever 'it' is, then it's usually not a good thing. |

Honestly can't see anything wrong with it, I have some animes I like to watch that have fanservice and maybe even to mutch in some cases. Though these are also mixed with alot of humor. I can see some people maybe see it as a negative thing but thats probably just because it can be just to mutch at some moments. That could be a reason. But the most stuff Im ok with. |

For me it's about how it's used. If a show has ecchi tag on it, then I know to avoid it, if it's used naturally into a scene then ok.. w/e. However when you start getting stuff that's supposed to be sorta "serious" like Yozakura Quartet and there's just panty shots all over the place.. I tend to just drop those instantly like that I did with that. |

Depends what kind of anime the makers are trying to produce. If it's a serious anime where it suddenly gets fan service, it loses it's seriousness and just becomes a failure. In other words rubbish. Light hearted anime with genres such as eechi, romcom will be perfectly acceptable with me |

For starters it never was and never will be hot so the whole purpose of it is completely null. Its pandering of the lowest common denominator in anime and when used in something that had potential would just kill its chances to be taken seriously, and my dislike of it only grows as i see shows not even trying to tell a plot throw in a bunch of ecchi shit and suddenly be able to break even as a result I'm not saying anime is completely cut off from making sexual jokes, cause when some anime have tried in the past they managed to make it hilarious without seeming like pandering but rather they were legitimately using it for a use of comedy like gintama(essentially no fan service but gets perverted as hell) and especially golden boy. |

To me it ruins the atmosphere and it just makes it harder to take the anime seriously - some good moments were killed in Code Geass due to unnecessary fanservice. As I'm asexual obviously I'm not going to enjoy it though, and the majority of anime watchers are heterosexual males so it doesn't surprise me that it exists. |

I do not find panty shots attractive. Nor do I find overly large breasts attractive. Fanservice irritates me because it detracts and distracts from the story without being a part of it. |

Fanservice is a problem when it's out of place in a story, doesn't ease itself when the story becomes serious, or pushes the story away to be rushed. Koihime Musou is out of whack for its run and the fanservice doesn't ruin it. Vividred Operation stops its fanservice midway when the story becomes serious. Da Capo III is harmless but becomes several magnitudes worse when it tries to tell a last-minute story when it was better off showing tits and ass ala Koihime Musou. Negima!'s fanservice tries to lighten the mood during serious moments but also often becomes a distraction. And Highschool of the Dead's fanservice clashes with the survival horror mood the show tries to make. /Pretentious Fanservice Scholar |

I am alright with shit like Ghost In The Shell showing some skin. Okay....A LOT of skin. The movie had a pretty good plot, art and characters. So even after I saw the first scene, I kept watching. Because I knew it was going to be good. It is anime like Code Geass that pisses me off. It feels forced, out of place and guess what? The show’s story sucked. I loved it but god damn plot holes everywhere. That shit was not cool or hot. I can not relate to a woman crying while her boobs are clearly the main focus of the shot. It is not how my body works. So yeah, keep it for the pervy rom/coms and hentai. I need more plot in my anime. |

TallonKarrde23 said: I disliked Gargantia extremely, but that scene was perhaps one of the more important ones: it was used to convey Ledo's growing attachment to Amy since he otherwise displays a total lack of interest. It was, in the contrived manner of the show's narrative, to draw the connection between the ending fight scene with the rest of the show, because without a little booty in the minds of our favorite directors (and perhaps the audience as well), it would make no sense for our protagonist to go out of character and do what he did. Like they say, behind every conflict is a woman 12 year old looking little girl. Because they always over-do it Because it's very trashy Because it's an extremely simple trick for sales/spice only Because dirty animation is frowned upon in almost everywhere Because it makes anyone who isn't a weirdass mother fucker to feel uncomfortable Because you'd die of embarassment if someone walked in and saw what you were watching 99% of fanservice is bad. Very few shows can pull it off in a classy or untrashy way that don't creep normal people out, such as Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, and Last Exile. |
